Senna had only met Ratzenberger, a rookie, the day before, so they weren't friends. Still, he was extremely distraught by his death (the first in 12 years in F1), which shows his depth of character.
First off he wasn't happy with the car, secondly he complained about the bumps on tamburello and how it made the car even worse, thirdly the pressure from no race finishes with the williams that he always dreamt racing in, fourth barichello and roland accidents, fifth he was certain the night before the race, that he wont participate, and was almost in shock, usually before the race he always took time to concentrate. here you can see him looking at the inevitable crash minutes before it.
Just the look on his face speaks volumes. There had already been 2 terrible accidents that weekend (1 fatal), and I'm sure that entered his mind. I have to wonder if somehow he knew something else was going to happen. I've heard reports that he had a dream about his own death the night before the race. Is that true?
Dunno about the dream but I know he was talking to his girlfriend by phone til late into the night before this race. He told her he really didn't want to race the next day and she said something to the effect that he doesn't have to prove anything and should heed his feelings. He decided that his job is more important and didn't want to let sponsors or the team down and went ahead and raced. A dream might have been the impetus for the phone call.
I dont think he wanted to race. The car was not built for him, he never felt comfortable in the cockpit and the rear suspension def caused issues. If you watch the crash, a split second before the car goes straight off, it jinks to the left.. i always wondered why. was the steering column failing and he put more force into the steering, then it snapped?
Don't forget Reubens Barrichello crashed that same weekend and got hurt. He and Senna were very good friends. I'm sure that also entered into his mind on that horrible day! May 1, 1994
The Great Ayrton Senna as killed by Williams and European Mafia from F1, to make Schumacher an artificial champion, a product of media! Ridiculous, where's the tires to protect that curve? Senna was killed by a shit Willians car more ridiculous than Prost used in 93 and Mansel in 1992, when Senna arrives, they kill him cowardly! Ayrton Senna, você é o melhor de todos, nossa grande inspiração!
he didn't knew but i've heard that he wasn't feeling very comfortable that day, so he talked with his team not to race that day, but his team said " think about the sponsors" and he went on the grid!!!
His somber expressions just prior to the race do lead us to wonder if he had a premonition of what was about to happen. His spirituality notwithstanding, I do not believe he had any idea of his impending death. Certainly, he knew the dangers of F1 racing. But just as we all face danger each time we get into a car, we do not dwell on what may happen even though we know cars can crash. I just don't think Senna had any idea.
If Ayrton knew he was going to die inevitably that day, he wouldnt have raced
People saying 'He Knew' is insulting, Yeah sure you know for definite your time is up yet you go ahead with a situation anyway? Load of rubbish and for people to keep on saying 'He Knew' on this video and many others is really old hat
He didn't know. he's not stupid. He was sad for his friend that died the day before. Don't you ever think? He wanted to win the race and wave the australian flag for his friend that died but he never had the chance to do it... It's so sad :'(
@freestanding1000 Yes yes, I kinda figured that out with a whole page of most recent comments and more correcting me. I know it's really hard to notice but I'm sure you'll see it if you search a little!
He felt something, he should never seat in that car! Corporal Language speak, Nervous, wish to talk with someone to not race this day.
