I really benefitted from this video, as I may be getting this surgery in a few months, and am academically interested in the subject matter. Thank you.
I was wondering won't the emotional faculties of the patient be compromised if the temporal lobe is resected. it is like whether u wanted to be injured by a lion or eaten by a lion. i guess the rule is to prefer the former?
A very informative video ! I had intractable complex partial Seizures for many years. 2 years ago, surgery was discussed and after a variety of tests, I had surgery at the Cleveland Clinic. I am now seizure free. As discussed in the video, recovery is quite rapid. I am 43 and can now drive, and I am seizure free. My seizures were mild (staring in to space, smacking of lips etc). Fortunatly there was always an Aura. Prior to the surgery on average, I had about 1 seizure a week.
i get the very same seizures u had only i get about 15-20 per week and the majority are at night i had ann extra temporal cortical ressection earlier this year but when the tissue came back from the lab it showed severe dysplasia(abnormal brain growth) so ive to go again as my seizures have not stopped but waiting lists are so long and im taking so many meds it gets frustrating at times but at the end of the day it could be worse
Consider it. Everyone has a different experience with surgery. Freebird, I feel for you. I went through this surgery twice, in 2007. In May the right hippocampus and amygdala were removed. In December the surgery was in two parts:
1. implant an eeg grid and electrodes
2. full anterior temporal lobectomy.
I have an area the size of my fist behind my right ear that's simply gone. I've been seizure free since 6/24/08. I'll probably be on meds forever, but who cares! The seizures are gone! :-)
THis was the most amazing surgery 4 me twice! I didn't have loss of anything-other than seizures-I still require medication-which I'm not good at taking in-as for that-we're testing 4 a 3rd one-testing they do 2 determine where-it is just amazing! I was in pain my 1st one-seizure free...but my 2nd one was twice as complicated-in depth electrodes in me 4 a week B4 surgery-but w/major prayer and relationship w/Jesus-He walked the surgeons thru it-me almost pain free! God bless you all-have faith!
Temporal lobe surgery is one of the most horrific surgery one could imagine....I had it...I spend most days stareing out the window...due to confusion...I lost it all...no happy ending here...I'm here to say NEVER DO IT!!!!!! Live with seizures and meds only. This is only a money making scam surgery.
WHAT THE HELL DO YOU SMOKE???you know what...forget it.i'd rather not contribute to the idiocracy that america has to offer.unless you one of those religious fanatics that always think that getting on you knees, and praying for a paraplegic to get the damaged nervous tissue is always the best way to heal it.just so you know that state of the art surgery give new life for ppl that never had the privilage to do what most abled bodied ppl take for granted.GOD!!

This is the state of the art in brain surgery. Why not just drill holes in the skull to let the demons out?
