bears a vague resemblance to one of my ex girlfriends. either donovan has a seriously misshaped lower body or those are some terribly ill fitted pants. he looks like a gnome here. good tune, though
Hey Jude topped the charts in September 1968, Atlantis did in July 1969 so this one came after, and yes, I agree too that this is influenced by Hey Jude, nonetheless, I believe that Donovan is a genius that shines with his own light :)
in the 70s in Germany there was the music-television show "Musikladen", where you could choose to call in every episode of his favorite oldies. The oldie with the most votes was subsequently played - was often the "Atlantis" by Donovan. For over thirty years, I have this masterpiece on vinyl and just played again - just sit back and enjoy! The magic that proves Donovan in his music is unique. Thank you for uploading and greetings from Germany.
Delightful clip of the gentle Glaswegian gypsie boy. Definitely influenced in structure by 'Hey Jude', as was Stevie Wonder's 'He's Mistra Know-it-all'
A lot of songs are written about mythology. Led Zepplin wrote a lot of songs (pre-Lord of the Rings) about J.R.R. Tolken's Hobbit Tales. Misty Mountain hop is one of them and I am not so sure Stairway to Heaven doesn't have a little of the Tolken in it. If Atlantis was true or not doesn't matter. Donovan was a creative writer during this time and some of remember these songs. Hey, if the songs of our time were not good then why do the movies of today use them? Anybody see "Goodfellows"?
aatlantis sent out ships to all corners of the earth on bord were the 13 the poet the farmer the magician the scientist and billy batts NOW GO GET YOUR FUCKEN SHINE BOX YOU FUCKEN MUTT!!
@roaringwaterbay It's funny how much security it brings us to imagine that we know the answers to these things, doesn't it? I mean, there's no more reason to conclude Atlantis existed than to conclude it didn't, but people will continue to make assumptions, one way or the other. It's human, I guess, to flee ambiguity and uncertainty for the familiar shores of conviction. We all do it. This is one matter on which I've been able to resist that temptation.
@Silenus6 sorry, i can't agree with your second sentence--it's just an unsupported claim like the alleged ones you are complaining about. you destroy your own argument.

just because there singing and dressing psychedelic dosent mean there stoned, none of them look stoned to me at all. Its pretty immature to assume that.
not kidding, i know stoned. The majority of that audience was not stoned. Some were, but most look sober. So does Donovan, if he was high he definitely wasnt stoned.

Sweet? Not really. He rejected his son and has always been quite hostile to him, starting from when he was born, which is totally senseless. He's a putz.
Donovan's son is in his 40's. Lennon was a negligent father to his son Julian from his first marriage but he never outright rejected him or refused to have anything to do with him the way Donovan did to his son. (Donovan's son is a spitting image of his dad. They could practically be clones.)
To be fair his parents split up and he never really saw his father much that doesn't necessarily mean Donovan abandoned him or was hostile to him, to be honest if he was hostile to him right from his birth he would have given him his name. Also Donovan Sr. and Donovan Jr. don't really look all that similar.
It had been in news stories that Donovan Sr. had rejected him from the time he was first born. The mother does not need to get the permission of the father to give the child the name "Donovan"; the father doesn't hold a copyright on the name. Donovan Jr. looks very much like Donovan Sr. did in his youth.
Yes but Donavan Sr. was not around only when he split with his wife, when Donovan Jr. was 3 so he would have been around for the naming. However I believe all the news stories because they would never lie just to get a story would they?
The naming is irrelevant as it could have been either or. It wasn't just one news story but many over the years, whenever Donovan Jr. was mentioned. So there could very well be truth in them. In any case, if Donovan Sr. is making a comeback; his publicist is likely trying to also do some damage control to his image. This is a typical example of the media blowing things out of proportion - I can assure you he has been a wonderful, involved, and loving father to all his children.

why do so many people think donovan is canadian? we don't have heavy scottish accents over here.

Because for many people the only Scottish accent they know is Willie from the Simpsons.
