  • Nice!!! What a cool TV gem man!!! This is the first I've ever seen of it!!

  • Goodness gracious. Humans are funny.

  • this is so dam fried..

  • bears a vague resemblance to one of my ex girlfriends. either donovan has a seriously misshaped lower body or those are some terribly ill fitted pants. he looks like a gnome here. good tune, though

  • i don't see any pupils...is he on LSD?

  • @kderdas1 Hell yes, they've all eaten Strawberry Barrels! Audience too...

  • White Men Can't Jump

  • This looks like some cult gathering haha.

  • GOODFELLAS!

  • Hey Jude topped the charts in September 1968, Atlantis did in July 1969 so this one came after, and yes, I agree too that this is influenced by Hey Jude, nonetheless, I believe that Donovan is a genius that shines with his own light :)

  • He was always brilliant with the Smothers Brothers

  • @ TheKenfig, this actually came out before Hey Jude.

  • Chapado é pouco! auhauhahau

  • in the 70s in Germany there was the music-television show "Musikladen", where you could choose to call in every episode of his favorite oldies. The oldie with the most votes was subsequently played - was often the "Atlantis" by Donovan. For over thirty years, I have this masterpiece on vinyl and just played again - just sit back and enjoy! The magic that proves Donovan in his music is unique. Thank you for uploading and greetings from Germany.

  • Delightful clip of the gentle Glaswegian gypsie boy. Definitely influenced in structure by 'Hey Jude', as was Stevie Wonder's 'He's Mistra Know-it-all'

  • wtf

  • De perfecte "slow" .

  • Is that Woody Allen at 2:10?

  • was he hospitalized after this concert?

  • Why are so many black people boycotting this concert ???

  • RIP Billy

  • he looks like my ex girlfriend...... Smothers Bros were pretty radical for their time.

  • God those were the days. Where did all the cool people go?

  • @cunnidvd We are still here after surviving the 60s, getting older, a little wiser and still groovin' to the music.

  • @cunnidvd they're now grandparents who vote conservative

  • @ritter89 LOL :-D , but your probably right and that is not funny.

  • ah found Atlantis under Glasgow Green. Efter ah sobered up next mornin, it had sunk again, go figure!! Shuggy

  • Billy Batts created 36 accounts and disliked this video...

  • @southparkobsessive haha great movie isnt it thats where i first heard this song and ive loved it ever since

  • OH, OH, OHHH!!! I LOVE THIS SONG!! Hail Atlantis!!

  • A lot of songs are written about mythology. Led Zepplin wrote a lot of songs (pre-Lord of the Rings) about J.R.R. Tolken's Hobbit Tales. Misty Mountain hop is one of them and I am not so sure Stairway to Heaven doesn't have a little of the Tolken in it. If Atlantis was true or not doesn't matter. Donovan was a creative writer during this time and some of remember these songs. Hey, if the songs of our time were not good then why do the movies of today use them? Anybody see "Goodfellows"?

  • Its all hypnotic mind control and predective programming.

  • Thank god the magician made it on the boat!!!!!

  • @TheStrazy ??? how come?? I was just thankful that the farmer made it! & the musician. ;)

  • @TheStrazy the magician?!

  • Wow, very old.. but nice!

  • Music is Art you tosser. It doesnt have to conform to rationale. Go Donovan.

  • aatlantis sent out ships to all corners of the earth on bord were the 13 the poet the farmer the magician the scientist and billy batts NOW GO GET YOUR FUCKEN SHINE BOX YOU FUCKEN MUTT!!

  • Hail Atlantis

  • I remember this being 11 Years old. Jennifer was Jennifer Warren correct???

  • this is a groovy song even though there never was an atlantis.

  • @roaringwaterbay It's funny how much security it brings us to imagine that we know the answers to these things, doesn't it? I mean, there's no more reason to conclude Atlantis existed than to conclude it didn't, but people will continue to make assumptions, one way or the other. It's human, I guess, to flee ambiguity and uncertainty for the familiar shores of conviction. We all do it. This is one matter on which I've been able to resist that temptation.

  • @Silenus6 sorry, i can't agree with your second sentence--it's just an unsupported claim like the alleged ones you are complaining about. you destroy your own argument.

  • Comment removed

  • elton john 3:04?

  • this was one of the first great rock songs

  • what a Fag!

  • They are not stoned. They are just very high.....

  • check out Donovans concert on KCRW radio.

  • Saw him in the mid-seventies in a small movie theatre in Toronto. I guess that's what it came down to. I remember he came out by himself. Isaid to myself, self, what the fuck. Where's the band? Best goddam show I saw that year!

  • My godness! it´s such a great song! I love it.

  • HAIL ATLANTIS!

  • Well, this man I idolised in the 60's. He had a great touch off those strings. But I think this song might make him cringe these days. A gift from a flower to a garden was a masterpiece. Thanks Donovan.

  • dieses lied ist so schööööööön!!!!

  • Love Don and the rest of the Barabajagal album, but this song is shite.

  • i do not care who you are, this man is sexy...at any age...

  • He's doing something different, great song

  • "Donovan was and is a Magician in our Time , as a seer and Poet , .

  • Peter , Paul and Mary always gave me the creeps..this confirms why:) I vaguely remember Jennifer ? was she a one hit wonder?

  • this is my favorite song I Love the song!!!

  • Ante-deluvian kings, Shem Bin Mnoi (Shem son of Noah.)

  • theyre all stoned^^

  • @Irishpubish We were all stoned then... all the time! ;-)

  • @Irishpubish Maybe they were who cares? Donovan has also been practicing TM (Transcendental Meditation) for so many years that now he gets high meditating.

The music sure sounds beautiful. I just love Donovan's voice and style.

  • @Irishpubish

he had to be stoned when he wrote this EPIC song.

  • @Irishpubish - no, no, the majority of us was reasonable sober - it was just, that the idea of freedom and autonomy was alive at those minutes

  • @Irishpubish Pretty much.

  • @Irishpubish

just because there singing and dressing psychedelic dosent mean there stoned, none of them look stoned to me at all. Its pretty immature to assume that.

  • @lmOnlySleeping You're kidding right.

  • @cunnidvd

not kidding, i know stoned. The majority of that audience was not stoned. Some were, but most look sober. So does Donovan, if he was high he definitely wasnt stoned.

  • @Irishpubish Rightly so mate !!

  • lol

  • i bought this when it came out

but i do not think it is his best record

    check out hey gyp

  • Great song, even if i don't like live versions at all...

FUCK SUPERSTAR SHOWS, THAT AREN'T MUSICIAN, THATS CULTURALLY SELLOUT AT ASSEMBLY LINE..

  • what afruitcake he needs to get his dam teeth fixed

  • @6psychosis6 you're an idiot

  • was Jane Fonda there ?

  • Piss poor version. This song needs the dramatic drum into and kick arse electric finale

  • This dude was way ahead of us all. The story told in this song is just now in the 21st century beginning to be uncovered by fools such as I who have been hypnotized by the lies of our leaders. This isn't mythology IT'S HISTORY.

  • Way to sound crazy.

  • This song was in the top 10 in the world charts in 1969

  • Ah those were the days.

  • @thepheoniix

Actually his daughter's name is Iona Skye...

  • Pauvre mec.

  • One of the earliest 60's sing a long gatherings, 2nd only to Give Peace a chance with John Lennon and Timothy Leary

  • God Damnit! Why is he so beautiful!!!! What an inspiring man <3

  • @vinylflowersss

    a shallow-witted comment...

Come on, post a picture of you, so we can tear up yer in seconds...

    stupid fucked-up Kids

  • @GPCMUTTERFICKER

You TURD. Making a fool out of yourself. I wasn't for a moment talking about his LOOKS!! I was talking about his his aura of GENTLENESS and HUMILITY. Don't you know what beautiful means???? Funny that you jump straight to looks. It is you who is vain, you fool.

Stupid fucked up old bastard. Way to stand up for the values of your time.

  • @vinylflowersss this is funny stuff. Funny when people come unhinged on here.

  • ...talk about getting goosebumps, i remember watching this when i was 11, what a rush to see and hear it again!

  • I remember seeing this particular episode of the Smothers' Brothers when it first came on. I remember the audience singing along I was a senior in High school;. Anyway, thank you so much for posting this!

  • that was one of the best songs on the radio at that time, 1968. and considering its competition = beatles, stones, kinks, it's really a milestone in hippy quasi-new age philosophy. is "2000 light years from home" any heavier or better?

  • This is not the Donovan Atlantis song I know.

  • Nice teeth

  • Google "Donovan Unofficial"

    What a great site!

  • What a babe...so cool! Thanks for posting. Hail Atlantis!

  • 70 years in the great singer, songwriter Donavan sang the song Atlantis The Missing Continent today after 2010 years in the fight for the Planet Earth does not disappear as well, motivated by the actions of man himself, causing global warming and help save the little what remains of Nature and Life.

  • ah yeah.. drugs have funny affects on people! need prove? watch this vid :)

    Cool song though

  • 2:35 Check out these dance moves.. LoLacaust!

  • @sparkmouse dude, that is hardcore dancin ;)

  • Großartig =)

  • HAIL ATLANTIS!

  • Are these comments on this video- Hmm I dont think so - I will just say hail Donovan- to bad I missed an opp to shake his hand at the Guthrie exhibit years ago

Love to you Donovan and all

  • Yeah i like donovan but...this intro is pretty rediculous.....gives me flashes of spinal tap..

  • reminds of goodfellas scene.billy batts whacked by jimmy convay/robert deniro and joe pesci.

  • hat der typ irgendeine gesichtskrankheit

  • the best

  • i think he could sue lenny kravitz over lifting "let love rule" from this song

  • @lamper2

If that was the case, just about everyone could sue lenny kravitz. He's ripped off everyone.

  • I listen to this one and the other one, the real nice studio type.

I like this one cause he says the chorus by himself twice, "then" everyone else joins in, I think it should be like that in all the versions.

  • lol jayjohnstrick, that film has forever tainted this song for all who see it.

  • now go and get your FUCKIN shine box!

  • Looks like a Gibson D-40 Sunburst.

  • anyone ID the guitar?

  • This is awesome.

  • dude... even though it was nothing like the studio version it was still amazing... hey its donovan what more could you ask for... am i right??

    Hail Atlantis...

  • true hippie in every sense of the word

  • Love to hear Mort Sahl talk about this.

  • Love the Scot accent and the chorus on this song: its a real sing along.

  • So what are the 12 he only list like 5 of them

  • They were the other so-called gods. Though gods they were..........

  • 1969 ? been a while ...

  • what year is this from again?

  • .lip stick & eye linner I wonder if he was the first not counting pat boone

  • Damn, what kinda drugs did he take? I want some!

Actually, I love Donovan, then and now. He is just about the sweetest person ever.

  • Sweet? Not really. He rejected his son and has always been quite hostile to him, starting from when he was born, which is totally senseless. He's a putz.

  • How old is his son?

John Lennon did the very same thing.

I think Britain must be one big hood cuz I know so many baby daddies from there who refuse to be fathers

  • Donovan's son is in his 40's. Lennon was a negligent father to his son Julian from his first marriage but he never outright rejected him or refused to have anything to do with him the way Donovan did to his son. (Donovan's son is a spitting image of his dad. They could practically be clones.)

  • maybe that's why he rejected him - too egocentric

  • To be fair his parents split up and he never really saw his father much that doesn't necessarily mean Donovan abandoned him or was hostile to him, to be honest if he was hostile to him right from his birth he would have given him his name. Also Donovan Sr. and Donovan Jr. don't really look all that similar.

  • It had been in news stories that Donovan Sr. had rejected him from the time he was first born. The mother does not need to get the permission of the father to give the child the name "Donovan"; the father doesn't hold a copyright on the name. Donovan Jr. looks very much like Donovan Sr. did in his youth.

  • Yes but Donavan Sr. was not around only when he split with his wife, when Donovan Jr. was 3 so he would have been around for the naming. However I believe all the news stories because they would never lie just to get a story would they?

  • The naming is irrelevant as it could have been either or. It wasn't just one news story but many over the years, whenever Donovan Jr. was mentioned. So there could very well be truth in them. In any case, if Donovan Sr. is making a comeback; his publicist is likely trying to also do some damage control to his image. All publicity is not necessarily good publicity if your image is one of an aging "flower child".

  • Easiest way is to ask them both.

  • look up Julien Lennons interview video on U2b and you might have a different opinion.

  • It doesn't change my opinion of John Lennon & I'm not in the least surprised. He was negligent in the extreme.

  • Oh, sure, mmedefarge....like we all just totally believe you know what you are talking about. Think again. You are so wrong. I happen to know the family.

  • I can't say that I know the family but I've seen the story in print several times starting when Donovan Sr.'s son was born. I've seen it repeated since in several places, too many times & over a period of too many years for it to be complete fabrication, in my estimation.

  • This is a typical example of the media blowing things out of proportion - I can assure you he has been a wonderful, involved, and loving father to all his children.

  • hehee I love Donovan.

  • I saw him 5 years ago up in Portland OR. I was expecting him to look all old and ragid like bobby d but man he was looking sharp and sounding like he was in his 20's .You rule Donovan, Hail the Atlantis.......

  • I never heard the song before, but it was great. Sung by a one of a kind performer, Donovan.

  • 888

  • that time was so much better than now with no fucking islam around, europe was europe back then

  • Lol. You're retarded.

  • homeboy knows his history!!!!!!!!

  • @level505

And now the little shmendrick thinks Salmon Rushtie ought to be whacked. I wish he was down below the frikkin' ocean, TOO! Loser.

    Norm

  • Peter, Paul and Mary dance in a spastic manner.

  • man he has short legs^^

  • i need catch the win he did with...?

  • One of my favorite songs from the '60's (and I have lots). Always fascinated with Atlantis. Great song, great vid.

  • very well writen song!

  • I had no idea Mort Sahl sang.

  • jesus that was brilliant, its mt fav song in the world, look at the crowd there having a good old sing song

  • WOW LAURA AWESOME he,s got his SCOTTISH ACCENT WOW awesome awesome share ty my lovely friend HE,S FROM MY HOME CITY WOW

  • WoW you can actually hear his Scottish accent in this it's Long Gone now lol lol!!

  • that was really groovy!!

  • "I'm just breaking your balls a little."

I liked Donovan since my Freshman year. But it made Goodfellas so much better when they played Donovan.

  • Donovan's Atlantis and Tommy D stamping on some gangsters head goes arm in arm with each other!

  • Ah, one of the VERY few Hippie songs that I like.

  • Donovan is alive and Scottish.

  • "Donovan is alive and Scottish. "

That would be a good name for a live album

    Donovan- Alive and Scottish!

  • why do so many people think donovan is canadian? we don't have heavy scottish accents over here.

  • Because for many people the only Scottish accent they know is Willie from the Simpsons.

  • @andyclaire not a heavy scottish accent at all - he was brought up outside london

  • @andyclaire Really! only thing canadians can pronounce correctly is "eh"

  • go home and get yer fucking shine box!

  • I was watching the night this aired.

    I was 13.

Haven't seen it since so I say thanks for posting.

Listen to Donavan when he starts to sing - because he could sing!
