this is ridictulous. he is so self centered. i should know, i went to his school. gay people say they wanna be treated equal but theres a "gay mes chorus"? i bet if there was a straight mens chorus then there would be a riot.
this boy just wanted attention for him self. his boyfriend, richard, asked him to go to his prom with him and all derrick said was no. like really!!!! you ask your boyfriend to go to your prom and then make a big national scene with it and when that boyfriend asks for you to go to his prom you turn him down?? like really that just says you wanted the attention and that you are a complete douche bag...
@freezphoto Ha. Thats funny. Actually I told Richard that we didn't have the money, and that I was exhausted after everything we had done. Did he mention that he cheated on me that night while promising me he loved me? Ah, guess not.
"what makes him think he's entitled to their support?" I haven't heard him say he is entitled to anything from them, but he talks to his dad at school where his dad teaches.
"Good for his parents for sticking up for their rights." You're a jackass, there isn't any violation of rights.
He's an honor student who volunteers with disadvantaged people. His boyfriend Richard seems very respectable. His parents are missing what could be a happy time.
The guy is 18 years old. If he doesn't want to respect his parents values, what makes him think he's entitled to their support. Good on his parents for sticking up for their rights.
I done with this, sorry derrick your "good work" has been spoiled by sour people who are not open to others like you would like for others to be. Way to go Corey! I have better things to do than judge people who are not like me.
@7meagan71 Hey don't try to turn this around on me. You're the one who supports homophobia. I've actually won because I've made you realize how wrong you are. I can see this because you're changing your tune all the while trying to make it look like I'm the one with the problem.
HAHA your funny, don't get me twisted, never once supported discrimination, you added that on your own... My first point that was the whole subject was that his parents should not be made a fool of when the whole truth is not present. And that comment wasn't directed at you anyhow.. So when you get the whole story and know the facts of the story besides one interview, then something can be said about someones parents.
Wow Corey, you are a real motivation to gays!!! I tell you what, cause I would really like someone with that language speaking for me... chill out.. not tryin to fight with you'll just stating how I feel, can't I do that. isn't freedom what this is all about.. you don't have to be so hostile
@7meagan71 I actually am and I get thanked all the time for bringing issues like this to light. You talk about freedom yet you have no problem defending discrimination against a minority group. I'm tempted to assume that you'd support sarah palin as president. It honestly wouldn't surprise me one bit.
Derrick is a wonderful person. His gender expression and personality should not be discriminated against. Its so sad over the years, I have friended so many homeless rejected gay street kids and sent them to shelters. Its said, cause out on the street, prostitution leads to aids and it is so sad. Many parents reject there gay children and force them on the streets.
The thing is that Derrick is the only person that they have truly interviewed about this. So him being thrown out of his home because of the publicity is not all true. It was alot to do with him not being able to follow the rules, ie coming home at 2 AM on school nights. I don't know how someone could put down someone's parenting skills if they don't know them. This is really getting out of hand... We get the point... Let it go Derrick
Meagan you best watch yourself posting comments like that here. You're right, the news interviewed other people in the town of Cochran and guess what? They proved themselves to be a bunch of spoiled christian cunts who pitch a fit when things don't go their way. It's the same sort of prejudice that was shown to blacks. Get with the times!
This is such crap. If you going to be gay, be gay; who cares. Quit acting like the world owes you something, we don't. Looks like to me, you are feeding off all this media attention. You got what you wanted, so leave it at that. You playing the victim with your parents? Did they tell you that you couldn't be gay, or you had to go by their rules? I don't hate gay people, I have a cousin who is gay and would do anything for them. But no, you don't deserve the right to get married either.
@youknowme62 How exactly is he acting like the world is owing him anything? Oh that's right, he's not! If you'd do anything for your cousin then why not support the right for him to get married? Good job on contradicting yourself and showing how ignorant you are. I laugh at people like you. Mainly because you don't seem to realize when you embarrass yourself.
Just because your gay, do you see yourself as some intellectual who is smarter than all straight white men? Typical. Only you are allowed to have an opinion because you are gay? I think youknowme is saying that they love their cousin for who they are, but do not agree with their life style. Get over yourself.
@ryansmith5678 Just because you're straight do you see yourself as some intellectual who has moral superiority over lesbian, gay or bisexual people? You really do think I'm some sort of elitist snob don't you? Well you're sadly mistaken because I don't think I'm better than anyone else, I'm just more enlightened and I stand up for what's right. I know that it is morally wrong to be prejudiced and to hate, something the majority of Cochran, GA seems to have trouble understanding.
@ryansmith5678 Oh and one more thing, You're the one who needs to get over yourself. Who elected you supreme ruler of the world? Are you gay? No! So you're not in any position to judge. Then again you are uneducated enough to assume that being gay is a "lifestyle" when it's obviously something we are born with. Who is going to choose to be gay when we have to face such ignorance? Think about it!
@ItsCoreyLynxxYall ... You must have gotten beaten up a lot as a kid. So much aggression. I do not judge nor do I hate. Uneducated? You are sadly mistaken. I have an opinion, and i believe it's wrong. On the other hand, it's your choice. Come on, this kid set up an account for people to give him money. He's milking this publicty, and thats what I have a problem with. Think of the other people involved, school officials being threatened, parents being ran in the dirt.
@ryansmith5678 Uh not really. My passion can't be connected to negative past experiences. If that were true then I suppose I could assume the same about you since you are so "aggressive" in defending yourself here. I highly doubt the school's officials are being threatened and as for the parents, well they deserve to be ran into the dirt, in fact lower.
a straight men's chorus would suck.

Good for Derrick. He deserves our support. His parents, who threw him out because of the publicity, could stand a lesson in Parenting 101.
