  • It has always been my impression that that they didn't break up or anything like that.

Theirs was a brief encounter, albeit for them, the perfect one. Their circumstances were such, though, they could not remain together. Their obligations and everything else required them to part, but they never forgot that perfect time, that perfect love.

  • one of a kind he knew how to hit home with his songs

  • One of my all time favorite songs! I first heard it by Roy Acuff in the late 40s in Indio Calif. His first recording of it has always been the one I like the best, but there have been many good versions. It has been recorded by musicians in many different countries, including Korea. I heard a Korean version recently in, of all places, a barber shop.

  • The song makes me think of my older brother and his girlfriend. He was killed in action in WW2 on Guadalcanal. He girlfriend said later that when he shipped out she felt that she would never see him again. Maybe she will meet him in heaven; or maybe she already has.

  • I, am a little older, so my thoughts have always been. This song was written in the 194x's during WW2. So I say he shipped out to the war, after a short love affair.

  • Excellent rendition

  • howdy charlie

  • I have to Doubt if this version is Charley Pride? I have never heard him use so much echo on any other songs. Sorry Guys but I don't think this is Charley Pride singing this..

  • @flickersg0 of course it's Charlie Pride

  • @simonne234 Ok, I'll bow to your better knowledge. Thanks for your reply Simonne. x

  • The song is about a young man and woman in love who must part because her family is moving to another country (or similar scenario); they would have married if in time they were able to remain together, but since they are both too young they must part ways. Neither of them married through the years since their hearts were given once and for all to each other. They wait for the time when they will be reunited in the next eternal life where circumstances will never come between them ever again.

  • I LOVE YOU BABY FOR EVER

  • you have shard my life for years, with music from your sole i thank you so much, makes life worth liveing when this worlds going mad thank you...... pj from ireland

  • Charley Pride does this one good for me it is a great song as well as all Charley Pride

  • @misternincompoop

willie didnt write it, but he is most famous for it. Hank williams sang it back in his day on the Mother's Best Flour show. Charley is singing the verse that Willie omits (now my hair has turned to silver..). The writer is Fred Rose, a songwriter who worked a lot with hank Williams and Roy Acuff.

  • @peteboss91

Thanks. Seems you know a lot about Country Music.

  • It is about a man who's wife died and they will meet again in heaven

  • One of my favorite songs. Thanks Charley Pride!!!! My 95 year old Aunt loves this man, she says he is the best singer. She is in a nursing home and when I told her I would get her more Charlie Pride songs he mouth opened and her eyes turned so bright and she smiled. I know she's going to love the songs I send her. So, young and old...we all love Charley!

  • One of my favorite songs. Thanks Charley Pride!!!!

  • just love yhe record

  • i've been a fan way back from the 70's and still am god bless a true angel!Named charlie pride!!

  • i seen way 2 many blue irish eyes crying ..... just b4 they passed away ;( .... but i got the memories ... and still love this great song song by a lagend ;)

  • @TheGlenmanusskinhead what is a lagend

  • Very beauitiful voice

  • I grew up with Charlie Pride...he is one of the best Country Singers of all times!! Brings back awesome memories listening to his music once again. Thanks Charlie!! :) <3

  • One of the greatest songs ever. I also like the cover version with Shania Twain. Does anybody knows who wrote this song?

  • @MisterNincompoop I thought Willie Nelson?

  • One of the very best, that's for sure!

  • Charley is loved by millions--Never one bad word said about Mr. Charley Pride--His Music will sooth your mind--

  • @Manidahoan I love your comment "his music will sooth your mind"

  • It's about a couple that broke up and later in life as he aged, he was thinking about her. He can't go back to her because she passed away. He then starts to consider his lost love and how he will someday join her in heaven. It's an old story that many a man (including me) has gone through. The old songs tell a story, often of lost love and loneliness but none the less true even today.

  • i think it is about a man who love his wife and she died

  • I think it is about a guy who loves a girl and spends the night with her but can't stay for some reason ( her family, or unstated prejudice or some big obstacle that can't be defeated) but they really love each other and when he gets much older he hears of her death and believes they will be together in the afterlife.

  • Love Charlie Pride. Use to see his preformance every year as a child at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo

  • She died, and he never found another to love as he loved her.

Charley Pride, Patsy Cline, Hank Williams Sr., and the list goes on ... and on... and on...

  • This is one of my favorite classic country songs. Thanks for posting.

  • Charley Pride one of the greatest Country singers of all time. "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" always goes well when a band play it at our Country & Western Club.

  • This is a fantastic song I ever heard!

  • This fantastic song I ever heard!

  • Actually, HE died, and he can see her below crying in the rain, from heaven. Someday they will be together, is what he is saying

  • @scarybikeNo, Its the other way around. She died and he is remembering the last time the last time they were together.

  • This song was written by Fred Rose and first recorded by Roy Acuff in 1945. Hank Williams covered it in 1951.

  • @yogitimg Thanks for the info never knew that

  • This is a widely recorded song wrote by willie nelson. Everyone from Elvis to Shania Twain. I will say this much my parents thought he was white back when he got started in the 60's. I like it by him as much as anyone, God bless Charlie Pride and keep on keepin on.

  • @MyGwarren~~ Willie Nelson did not write this song. As stated above Fred Rose wrote this song it was

Willie Nelson who was the only one to win any awards & hit the charts for a record breaking weeks.

@Iene73~~I think sometimes writers leave the interuption of a song to the listener to conclude their own

ending as how they feel it. Willie Nelson sings this song best for me. Elvis also has done a beautiful job.

Roy Acuff & Hank Williams sang it in the 50's. Love Charlie Pride To Country Girl

  • i love this one ,it how i feel all the time i have blue eyes so i do cty in the rain when my wife and my kids laft me

  • Charlie Pride is one of the greatest singers of all time. That voice can literally melt you.

  • Many lovely versions of this song, and this is one of them! Thanks for posting!

    john.

  • kjempefin retromusic

  • @phonicsquest Seeing as how your post is incorrect, ignorant, and immature, I'd be safe to say; You're a twat.

  • He is one to remember, always good!

  • charley pride was a pretty good pro baseball player (pitcher) besides the great musical talent. Guess some people might not know that. my 2 cents.

  • This is my all time favorite song! I love how everyone sings it.

  • Question open for opinions:

Is this song about a Couple Who Broke Up???

    .......or.........

A man who's Love (wife) Died???

Please let me know what you think and thanks.

    Country Girl

  • @GaCountryGirl024 A couple who broke up from love and as the years passed on his love 4 her would never die...PEACE!!

  • @zyruemusic

Thanks for your opinion on the song so many have different ideas about the song.

So I deceided that I would post the question & see if I could get some feedback about it. When they kissed G'bye and parted sounds like they said goodbye but not that she had passed on then he says something to the effect of seeing her Star so it kinda leaves it up to the imagination of the listener. I sure do appreciate your opinion & look forward to more coming in as well Willie Does It Best For Me!

  • @GaCountryGirl024 Hank Williams or Roy Acuff does it 4 me...eventhough this is a GREAT recording of it....PEACE!!!

  • @GaCountryGirl024 i believe they are parting for she is on her death bed.. and he is saying he will never forget her..

  • @GaCountryGirl024 ...GCG...I'm approaching 61. My Dad had a couple of buddies from the late 20's who used come over every other Saturday night n' jam during the 50's...Blue Eyes was one I really remember! Dad used to tell us boys that it was about a husband heading off to WWII and never expecting to see his Wife again...until they get "up younder"...

    Doesn't really matter, does it?

  • @GaCountryGirl024

It is about a man whose wife died--and who waits for the day he can see her again.

  • @GaCountryGirl024 Good question country girl.i think not 2 people can understand a song the same way...why without song, where would we be?,only the writer will know what it is about.I think he and her could not make their r'ship work so they walked away from eachother but loved eachother till they died.Thats my view...beautiful song, although Elvis singing it is so beautiful and eva cassidy.Certainly a song about 'parting'.sometimes love is not enough.

  • @GaCountryGirl024 relationships darling

  • He was one of the Greats!

  • Great song by a great singer.

  • Oh niceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee voice, Willie, Elvis and Charley!

  • A great version of this song !I like it very much.

    Jean.

  • Charley keeps it original and sings all the verses as it was written.

  • I used to love this song until Willie Nelson put his brand on it. Now it is hard for me to listen to the song.

  • the best of all recordings

  • @MrHuntw26 I wonder how many versions you have heard of this song. Charley does better than what is the most famous artist to sing the song, but I loved Ferlin Husky's version from the early sixties.

  • teenyweeny37 what a great voice

  • This version of Charley is the best, it beats Willie Nelson by far!

  • @henningnesse I have to agree with you. However, I really loved Ferlin Husky's version off his Ferlin's Favorites lp. All this 'outlaw' singing sounds more like southern rock. I like keeping it country, with fiddles(not violins)and steel guitars and the old upright base fiddle; drums do not sound near as good to me. That big base fiddle on a Wurlitzer Jukebox can't be beat, as far as I am concerned.

  • @henningnesse Well said.

  • chandeiers

  • hey i like this,i think willy nelson, elvis presley and charley pride,do this great

  • @TheRonnie63 hank williams sings it the best

  • @jeffisstoned well I respect your opinion. But I still stand by my comment.by the way I think I do yhe song pretty good myself

  • @jeffisstoned

I think Willie Nelson does a better version of it.

He doesn't sing the second version...But it's the

Best And that's Only my opinion....

    Country Girl

  • @GaCountryGirl024

no one better als nelson, with the song, but this ok almost

  • Great rendition by Charlie Pride.

However Willie Nelson's version is still number one.

  • my mum loved Charley pride...fun i still

  • good music Belvedere inn nigg guyana. Its not all jim reeeese. Remember lol

  • Hi everyone, I would like to insert a comment about our society and say that it is a shame that people no longer understand the basic concepts of writing and spelling.

  • Now that all the stupids have spoken guess I'll just listen to the music

  • @u8219 I'm so glade to hear u say this, no president can do anything br y himself. and it seems to me the republicans wants to put stumbleing blocks every where he truns.

  • We are kind of off topic here and that is what I was addressing in the 1st place. Look at unemployment levels, look at how the bailouts worked out, look at gov ownership of (failed) industries, look at how the banks screwed the economy and were then rewarded for it with our tax dollars, etc. What has Obama "fixed"?

  • TRUELY FANTASTIC SINGER

  • I do remember them playing this ver on the radio and i am a fan of his he made great music

  • great version o this clasic

  • Well, I like this version better than Roy Acuff's. Fuck racism, I'm white but I like this man's singing. He's cool.

  • If people dont have nothing nice to say then the shouldnt say anything at all. I dont know why people come and make racist comments on a singer. They mustve loved listening to this song ...I mean why come and listen to something only to make shit comments like

    zyruemusic below

  • we are all created by god and is equal in god's eyes, so whatever or whoever we are , we are all the same our flesh is same and our blood are same red!! There is no such human eating stone and we all die. so don't say such thing that s sound racial!! anyway i like his song!!!

  • @jarwin2908 chirley pride......"sweet voice and pure class"..

  • Charlie sings the second verse, which Willie doesn't.

  • No Offense to Charlie pride This is great but ive got to say...Long Live The King Of Country Music Roy Acuff's Version is a masterpice!!

  • I too prefer Roy Acuff's version, but that doesn't mean that I don't like Charlie's or Willie's version! Both are great!

  • I gotta go with Hank Williams Sr's version, but you could throw a blanket over them. (Don't see Elvis in the conversation, his legion of blindly obsessive fans not withstanding.)

  • if you dont like his singing then why did you listen to the song?? he is the BEST singer I have ever heard.

  • Great talent a classic.

  • Black or white it doesnt matter...He is best singer of all time.

  • @speace78 Very true great country singer

  • The best ever period.

  • im pretty sure mclenptp meant 1 of the greatest country singers but was excited to say he is a rare talent because he is a black country singer. it is rare, and yes he is one of the best black white or yellow.

  • Thanks so much for that. We Charley Pride fans all love a little side serving of racial hatred with our music.

  • he is one of the in his time

  • Charley is a rare talent ....1 of the greatest non-white country singers in history. He deserves better respect and recognition.

  • Silly me. I just thought he was 1 of the greatest country singers in history.

  • @mclenptp GOOD POINT

  • this song reminds me of my ma .hope shes happy .r.i.p.

  • willie nelsons shit .he sings through his nose.

  • Way better than Willie Nelsons version...Charley Pride the greatest country singer of all time.

  • Nearly as good as Willie Nelson´s version!

  • my greatest artist - great song

  • grande voce,accompagnament faboulus

  • This fabulous melody would lend itself to any aspect of human misery.

  • now i like charlies version yeah...but hey ELVISFREE i think yaight to here willys version as well. before you go castin stones to sink your ship ;)

  • yes ja sam na istoj liniji DAMIR

  • Love this song but most of all love Charley singing it,yes agree with others, bet he had an uphill struggle, his music lives on,it can only get better.nuff sed.thank you for this.

  • awesome song so how do I get this for my own personal collection

  • download it using realplayer !!

  • Elvis and Charle the only ones that ever did this song and made you feel it! !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • how about Hank

  • Exactly. Hank > all.

  • nobody can sing this better than Charlie Pride... He is the only one who does this song justice... Love ya Charlie

  • zaskakuacy glos. Pekni!!!!!!

  • this is the best ever and for ever!

  • If you want to hear the next Charlie Pride, check out Hootie and the blow fish's Darius Rucker. He currently has a country recording out and it's amazing.

  • Please don't compare Darius to this man. He is nowhere near the same calibre. Their only similarities are the obvious

  • MrRob, you obviously don't know Darius. Search Hootie and the Blowfish and Darius rucker, and you will see ggillsp made a very valid point. I'd hope the obvious similarities you're talking about is talent, but I know that's not what you meant. Someone must carry on, so lets root for the new talent, not against them. The most popular favorite among people is Hold My Hand, but my own personal favorite is Old Man And Me. They are from my birth state.

    watch?v=REGPO7qnzAI

    watch?v=xoW3bqnr7tw

  • ggillisp stated that Darius is the next Charlie Pride. Why, other than the obvious? "Hey guys, if you like this Black guy, here is another"

No doubt Darius is talented, but his music simply does not give me the same feeling that Charlie Pride does. Darius switched to country, Charlie always was country. Darius also has an egg shaped head. And, as I stated before, Darius is not the same caliber musician as Charlie Pride. He has had no chart toppers that I know of.

  • Their being country or not is not a factor for me. I liked country when I was a kid, until the new ones came along and made it stupid. Damn drinking songs, party songs, boogie woogie choo choo train, sugarland, I can't stand it! I go into the suprmarket and that junk is playing, it offends my ears! But back in the time of Charley Pride, it had meaning and heart. That's the similarity I see to Darius, it has nothing to do with the shape of his head, or anything else.

  • I wanna shoot myself in the head when I hear that pop country crap also!!!

  • @WanagiAkicita Guys......this is an old Hank Williams song......did you forget ?

  • @Jacobrester ... don't care.

  • @WanagiAkicita I would bet money nobody gives a shit about anything you have written.....so it all equals out

  • @Jacobrester How much money are we talking about?

  • Actually, it's an old Carter Family tune. It was a fine tune then and it's a fine tune now!

  • to see how far Black's have come from in 16 day's we got PRES. BARACK OBAMA AS COMMANDOR AND CHEIF ME A WHITE 37 year old VOTED FOR HIM

  • So. Obama is an socialist ass puppet president. Charlie Pride is still cool. I really don't see what black progression or Obama's stankin azz has to do with this video though.

  • Can you imagine how much racist flack he must've had to live through for this song??? And STILL sells his classics today. Music is powerful, ain't it???

  • I know he must have really have liked to sing a lot since racism was prevalent back then! Charley Pride is good!

  • Very true. Brave guy, especially in his era. At least we have good music like this to stand the test of time.

  • Now my blue eyes are full of tears, cause we broke up,me and my great and only love. Lindsey. a sad, very sad song but sweet voice.

  • I dont know if its true but I heard Charlie sold more records than teh Beatles. Great Voice

  • I would like think that was right but i dont think that it was..

  • Charlie wrote this song?? Wether he did or not; what a Gem of a song. What a time, what a life, what a voice!! TIMELESS !!

  • Fred Rose wrote it.

  • Just love this song; thanks for posting it

  • Good Ol' Charley just can't sing a bad song....this is really a wonderful rendition of a Willie Nelson classic.

  • Fine version!

I feel dumb--I thought Willie Nelson wrote this song!

And I´m a great fan of Hank Williams Sr.............

  • My mama used to listen to good ol' Charlie and this song sure does bring back memories of the past. Make me wish for just one more day... and I can see my Mama's star up in heaven! She's gone now, it rained that day. Evertytime that it rains my brown eyes cry in the rain.

  • This is like no other song for that feeling.. thanks for that post.

  • Still have my mum, emmacera, but loved your post. Through osmosis, I know all the words to every Charlie song. All through my beautiful Mum. Bless your heart child.

  • sry to hear that

  • i wish i could have been there to wipe her tears , stayed alive , after those blue eyes must have cried in the rain ,,,,,,nothing left ,,, loved her a lot and lost her , dont know why> x
