This sounds very much like Greek Orthodox Byzantine chants - the way the phrases work and also a slight durge in the background at certain points throughout the hymn. Never heard anything like it before - wonderful!
Ave maria gratia plena. Dominus tecum, virgo serena. Benedicta tu in mulieribus.
@akrasiel1101 Third part is: Ergo maris stella, verbi Dei cella et solis aurora, Paradisi porta. Per quam lux est orta, Natum tuum ora, Nos ut solvat a peccatis, et in regno claritatis quo lux lucet sedula collocet per secula. Amen.
It sounds very sweet. Its tones are inspirational.
AVE MARIA is Our Last Chance for the Eternal Life. It isn't a kidding or ridiculous. It's real. We maculate can't go to Heaven. MOM was given to US to repair Eve's fault. We can accept or deny IT, but we must only decide TWICE for ETERNITY. More than this, we aren't qualified for IT. The 1st One we lost. The Last Life Line Left. It depends on all Individuals to decide. Surely, not All can go to Heaven or not All can go to Hell. So Do our Best!
@jlmadill I'm not sure if I'd call this polyphonic. The organum part is merely support. I suppose we could debate all day about the performance practice, though :P The manuscript is Gregorian chant, though. There is only a monophonic part written.
There was a lot of natural, spontaneous "polyphony" going on, even in Carolingian days. 5ths and 4ths and 8ves "sounded" perfect (hence, close to what we hear today as unisons).
The idea of "pure" monophony (the way we think of it today) for chant is a 19th century conceit, based on misreading/mistranslating people like Guido, et al.
OMG this is soooooo beautiful.....it makes me feel so happy and calm after i listen to it......thankyou so much for uploading this....i LOVE Gregorian Chant :)
We just did this in our music class! Same song (a small section) and we translated it from modern notation to numatic and then wrote it ourselves, and either printed or drew an illumination to go with it.
ive just recently completed a music GCSE exam and there was a plainchant song where unussually a saxaphone came into it towards the end.. im trying to find it but am having no luck?.. anyone help??
I have to say that as I listened to this, I was moved, thank you so very much

This is easily the most sublime rendition of the "Ave" that I have heard! Does anyone know where I can find the full lyrics to this?

I'm posting the text in parts:

Beautiful, but technically speaking, true Gregorian chant is not polyphonic.

some of the later stuff was I believe, but yeah most of it was monophonic. Very beautiful anyway though.
janet20099 2 years ago
That is correct. Organum was the first development of counterpoint and harmony in sacred, early works.

gregorian chants are absolutely beautiful
and some of the hardest pieces to ever sing.
scaranj0410 2 years ago 7
The thing I like about gregorian chant is that it is very technical.
