Some of the stuff u hear, feel or see in these old PFunk concerts were throwback references 2 the old black church. If u hadn't experienced that then it might seem new or strange. A lot of people who grew up in old black churches see the similarities. Its just from a creative secular perspective. I mean comon people "Swing Down". And don't even get me talkin about Sly, who was1 of their inspirations.I wanna take you higher! And we all know how big the church influence was a part of his music.
The best part is at the 2:23 mark, when Eddie has a look on his face like not even he can believe how amazing this sounds. Eddie Hazel was one of a very select group of guitarists who could play straight from his soul.
P.S. What's up with George Clinton and his bizarre dance/march at the 3:30 mark? He's such a freak...and a genius...No other performer like him in the history of music!
@macularis Don't seem that bizarre or freaky 2 me. Thats tha type of moving and groovin I used to see all the time when people would catch the spirit real good in old black churches. Its an throwback to that feelin. call it "They called it shoutin". I love what u said about Eddie being a soul guitarist because that exactly what he was. Just like when Glen would call down the mothership. U could hear that old church soul comin out and that the same with Eddie. It just in the form of guitar.
he is working that strat over like it said something bad about his moms... my lawd!!!! a sad fact is he never got his due!the ONLY GUITAR PLAYER YOU COULD MENTION IN THE SENTENCE WITH HENDRIX. RIP MASTER HAZEL A JOB WELL DONE!!!!!!!
Yea he is, which seems kind of odd because his guitar of preference throughout the 70's was his Black Les Paul (Black Beauty), slightly overdriven with those fuzz effects! Those were the days of great guitar-man-ship!!
This is Classic ! I am an ORIGINAL P-Funkster from 1975 Cobo Hall Arena Detroit. And all of the LIVE P-Funk Concerts of the 70's is THE GREATEST FUNK ON EARTH...past..Present and Future !!!
Eddie Hazel...What can be said. A very talented and gifted Guitar Player who never got his due. But Guitar Players know about his gift and passion for music.
Wow, I've never seen Eddie Hazel play on video. This is a gem.

That's from the first half of an Aqua Boogie show, they take the Funk underwater for the second half.
I'm 99% sure that's the 1979 Houston show.
