I Don;t understand all the criticism - It's obvious that she understands her gear, its strengths and its weaknesses. She also shows and understanding of different lighting and how it's colour affects or compliments certain fashion, and when and how to alter that light so she can use it to her advantage. Sure, she may take a more simpler approach, but obviously nobody's heeard of the KISS mehtod (Keep It Simple, Stupid!). If you ask me, she has all the qualities of a good photog.
People, stop trolling saying you know more than her about photography. Sure you know the japanese word "bokeh" and the correct order of a camera name. At the end of the day, she is making more money than you and meeting people you only see in your dreams. As a photographer, who has a legitimate job as a photographer, I think she understands the basic principles of light and how to use the camera. There is nothing wrong with what she is doing.
@TheSecretKode Money doesn't make my world go round, and who the hell are you to tell people like myself, that I can only "dream" of seeing people like katy Winn does on a daily basis? I do portraiture and travel around the world doing landscape photography, not shooting in tents of fashion shows. Traveling the world is hell of a lot better than shooting in tents...just my opinion! chao!
@AWagnerPhotography this was in 2008 they never had 8gb card at that time, plus she did say " ok memory but not to much so she don't loses that much work"
is it onley me or does she seem like one of those stupid people who think that the most importent part about a photo is how much the gear used to take it whit costs
i wouldent be suprised if she uses fully automatic shutter speed And aperture ...im not trying to be mean in any way but if i worked for mercedes bentz or whatever i would try get a good grip of how a camera works before i start to sell my photos
@Photowebster how could you be so sure? of course i know 24-70 has a big hood, i have both of the lens actually. try googling it 24-70 EW-83F and 70-200 ET-86 look at both and look again at this vid, cheers mate :)
the only problem with that bracket is that it causes the flash to cast a shadow behind the subject, to the left, when in landscape, and being so close to the lens, is prone to causing red eye. it works great for portrait, and I suppose makes the whole setup a tighter package.
I love her little set up-- esp. the Emily sticker. I also feel great knowing she loves the same lens I prefer to shoot fashion/portraits with (50mm). Thank you for posting this. It's great to see another female photographer around, especially one who's successful in fashion.
I'm an aspiring fashion photographer and found this video VERY informative. I'm about a semester into my Fine Arts degree hoping to have a studio of my own. Thanks!
Thank you so much for this video. It was so very helpfull and informative. I shot a fashion show at fashion week and i missed shots because of autofocus hunting. She gave out some really good tips, like the one about 250 shutter speed.
From google: In photography, bokeh is the blur, or the æsthetic quality of the blur, in out-of-focus areas of an image, or "the way the lens renders out-of-focus points ..
@damonwebster - lol it comes down to personal choice. When I travel I only carry three lenses and 1 camera body and carry that all on with my Domke bag which ensures if my stuff is broken I know I broke it, which will never happen.
@justinmumm um you don't put it under your seat.....
i shoot runway on the side of my editorial work and i've never seen photographers use anything but pelicans or occasionally those aluminium hardcases... this is talking several fashion weeks all over the place not just in one country..
you are right, but i have a 70 200 f2,8 too and the hood is a tiny bit too large for the 24 70 and does not fit in the 24 70...also, the lens that she have can probably be a 28 70 (older version)... i guess
wow most fashion photohraphers and portrait/group/school photographer don't even know what shutter speed is, this lady seems very well knowladged, which means she is interested and when you are interested you want to do well meaning you will produce better images
Picking it up or forcing it out of a bag are different. When a lens is big, you will fix the lens to a tripod and not the camera, meaning it is better for the lens to bear the camera's weight than the other way around.

In addition: Many people rave on about how fast the shutter speed is, but how much do you really need that many fps? Holding that shutter down adds more and more time looking through images to pick the right one, also space on your cards, which your going to need lots of. It's lazy blasting off that many images at once, unless you need to, at that particular time. Depending on the sport and who your shooting for depends on what equipment you'll need.
I have a 40D. do you think it would suffice for Professional Sports Photography? Its got a 1.6 x on the sensor vs 1.4 for 1D. same 10 mp and has a burst of 6.5FPS so isnt that different from the 1Dmk iii but is a lot cheaper!
It's got the specs to please anyone. You really need to put into prospective who your client is and what results you feel you can get. On paper it's a fantastic camera but every review you'll find only compares it to the 30D and an upgrade from other less expensive cameras. I'm really thinking there's not much scope for people in your shoes. Wanting to look and produce professioanlly without the expense. This is the only camera I feel suitable for you thats out there.

I have a question about flash brackets - obviously the idea is to get the flash above the lens when shooting in a portrait orientation.
If I wanted to then shoot an image with a landscape orientation, how will having a flash, now beside my lens, affect the image?
Hope that makes sense!
Cheers.
