  • WTF is a mark 2 1dn?????

  • @LiMiTMediaHD I think she means 1D Mark 2 N, the successor to the 1D Mark 2.

  • @Oukiph no its not...

  • Whts da bag she using??

  • why she putin something in her camera for just attacht the flash? cant she just put in the ofshoe of her camera?

  • Whoa EW, "bokah"?! Get outta here!

  • I Don;t understand all the criticism - It's obvious that she understands her gear, its strengths and its weaknesses. She also shows and understanding of different lighting and how it's colour affects or compliments certain fashion, and when and how to alter that light so she can use it to her advantage. Sure, she may take a more simpler approach, but obviously nobody's heeard of the KISS mehtod (Keep It Simple, Stupid!). If you ask me, she has all the qualities of a good photog.

  • it´s she the snapchik mother??? XD

  • People, stop trolling saying you know more than her about photography. Sure you know the japanese word "bokeh" and the correct order of a camera name. At the end of the day, she is making more money than you and meeting people you only see in your dreams. As a photographer, who has a legitimate job as a photographer, I think she understands the basic principles of light and how to use the camera. There is nothing wrong with what she is doing.

Get off the computer and take pictures!

  • @TheSecretKode Money doesn't make my world go round, and who the hell are you to tell people like myself, that I can only "dream" of seeing people like katy Winn does on a daily basis? I do portraiture and travel around the world doing landscape photography, not shooting in tents of fashion shows. Traveling the world is hell of a lot better than shooting in tents...just my opinion! chao!

  • damn.. is she a joke? i know more bout photography than her.

  • 1 GB card in the tents? Try 8gb....

  • @AWagnerPhotography this was in 2008 they never had 8gb card at that time, plus she did say " ok memory but not to much so she don't loses that much work"

  • is it onley me or does she seem like one of those stupid people who think that the most importent part about a photo is how much the gear used to take it whit costs

i wouldent be suprised if she uses fully automatic shutter speed And aperture ...im not trying to be mean in any way but if i worked for mercedes bentz or whatever i would try get a good grip of how a camera works before i start to sell my photos

  • Do I need to take a class to know what shes talking about

  • does she know what she's doing?

  • Can someone identify the model of her Manfrotto monopod?

  • @SunnyCQ either a manfrotto 690B monopod or a manfrotto modo monopod.

  • Love these kind of videos. It's so interesting to see what people carry around.

  • I have a question about flash brackets - obviously the idea is to get the flash above the lens when shooting in a portrait orientation.

If I wanted to then shoot an image with a landscape orientation, how will having a flash, now beside my lens, affect the image?

    Hope that makes sense!

    Cheers.

  • yeah i dislike direct light on the object.. i prefer natural light or existing light.. gives the object a more natural state.

  • go to 3:12 and turn on CC LOL

  • She knows her photos but not her equipment. Still, much much much better than those who knows their equipment but not their photos :))

  • but where does she keep the ingredients for sandwich-making??

    jk she's awesome. go canon

  • BOKEH

  • I like your video... Canon 1ds mark is a great camera...... i like it so much.......

  • very professionnel

  • "Doesnt get the kind of giberishbukake giberish"

  • did somebody recognize that she is using 70-200's lens hood on her 24-70? :):)

  • @RonnieIrawan no she's not.....the 24-70 just has a HUGE hood!

  • @Photowebster how could you be so sure? of course i know 24-70 has a big hood, i have both of the lens actually. try googling it 24-70 EW-83F and 70-200 ET-86 look at both and look again at this vid, cheers mate :)

  • @RonnieIrawan Thats the hood that comes with that lens..

  • i shoot with the same camera and i got to say i love it

  • bokEh not bokah

  • I like your video, Check out my review channel! Thanks!

  • what camera bag is she using?

  • Nice...I like your Work.

  • She shoots Nikon now.........katywinn.ifp3.com/1/244fd

  • Anyone have any reasonable guess to what brand/made that flash bracket is ?

  • @MadmanDKDK Is made by "custom brackets" and its called the CB Mini.

  • lol! GET LOST!

  • nice! she's an old school pro! smart lady!

  • the only problem with that bracket is that it causes the flash to cast a shadow behind the subject, to the left, when in landscape, and being so close to the lens, is prone to causing red eye. it works great for portrait, and I suppose makes the whole setup a tighter package.

  • Katy you're awesome!

  • i like her. puts her time into the art of it and not fussing over gear

  • shes ready for combat, extreme gear

  • she said "Mark 2 1Dn"

  • She also said "Bokkah"

  • @drghettodave I thought it was Bokkeh?

  • @dannggken yea she is old school pro, they call it Bokkah hahah

  • very mediocre photos i'm afraid

  • I love this women.

  • Katy Winn, I love this women.

  • Tell me what's the different between Speedlite 430EX II and Speedlite 580EX II.

  • @fireblade1247 the 580ex ii has more power and can shot much longer distance with flash than the 430ex ii

  • she is a Einstein of PHotography... She is brilliant… My only statement is, “Why didn’t I think of that?”

  • love it

  • What flash is this?

  • @lew1310 580EX

  • @toher24 not its prolly a 430 ex ii because you can see her tighten it down......because the one your talking about has a switch.....im pretty sure.

  • I love her little set up-- esp. the Emily sticker. I also feel great knowing she loves the same lens I prefer to shoot fashion/portraits with (50mm). Thank you for posting this. It's great to see another female photographer around, especially one who's successful in fashion.

  • hey i got a nkion d90....wht kind of lenses do you use for taking modeling pics?

  • @bolo65

    24-70 2.8 17-35 2.8 70-200 2.8 ect

Basically, take the lens that fits YOUR style of photography and where your going to be sitting while on the shoot.

  • What kinda bag is that?

  • @peplovesu Domke

  • Shade lol its called a lens hood :) NOOB

  • famous or not, she's not good enough as a pro when I saw her images

  • Thanks for this video. VERY cool stuff.

  • I'm an aspiring fashion photographer and found this video VERY informative. I'm about a semester into my Fine Arts degree hoping to have a studio of my own. Thanks!

  • Cool a woman photographer! Does she shoot in the kitchen only? LOL

  • Check out my camera bag video, and check out my flickr please! Im 15 and any advice or suggestions are are welcomed!

  • Thank you so much for this video. It was so very helpfull and informative. I shot a fashion show at fashion week and i missed shots because of autofocus hunting. She gave out some really good tips, like the one about 250 shutter speed.

  • OMG that sicker on her flash is so funny "get los"t!!! i love katy she is my idol and i look up to her i amd a teenage photographer

  • its called a cb mini rc they are hard to find i got one after a couple of weeks after i saw this vidio

  • Beatifull lady and smart too...great gear, ty

  • Where can I buy that bracket?

  • BHphotovideo

  • Does anyone know what bracket this is?

  • what's the PIT ??

  • insanity

  • OMG i love Katy she is so sweet i love her right after i saw her camera bracket i went out and bought one im getting it on friday

  • This movie was very helpful. thanks a lot !

And good luck to the lady - she seems to be nice person :)

  • Katy is a sweetheart.

  • Its CAlled Bokeh . Google may help u

  • what's a bokah??? ROFL

  • @klasiqk

    It's bokeh.

From google: In photography, bokeh is the blur, or the æsthetic quality of the blur, in out-of-focus areas of an image, or "the way the lens renders out-of-focus points ..

  • there are a few ways to pronounce it.

  • the aesthetic quality of the blur / GOOGLE IT !

  • 12 gig, i lol'd

  • @gigpic Is she shooting JPEG? lol

  • @ggill1313 she seems a little dim, shes probably shooting mp3... somehow.

  • She is one of the top pros covering Fashion Week all over the world. Many of the shooters also use a backpack.

  • @damonwebster - lol it comes down to personal choice. When I travel I only carry three lenses and 1 camera body and carry that all on with my Domke bag which ensures if my stuff is broken I know I broke it, which will never happen.

  • lol your funny, she is one of the top gals, it's all about personal preference not copying everybody else

  • I use a pelican Case but thats because I'm in Afghanistan

  • man that sucks

  • @ichirootaniguchi That's a weird rule you just made up there.

  • @ichirootaniguchi a REAL photog would use whatever he/she considers necessary.

  • @ichirootaniguchi

i dont think a pelican case will fit under your seat while traveling in a airplane

  • @justinmumm um you don't put it under your seat.....

i shoot runway on the side of my editorial work and i've never seen photographers use anything but pelicans or occasionally those aluminium hardcases... this is talking several fashion weeks all over the place not just in one country..

  • getty's ruined the industry for everyone!!

  • the 24 -70 hood is not the right hood for the lens... i guess that hood is from the 70 200 f2,8

  • That's the right hood.

  • it isn´t because i have a 24 70 and my hood doesn´t have the ring around it

  • The official hood for the 27-70 2.8 is the EW-83F. What model is yours?

  • that one ew83f original from canon.... maybe her hood is not official

  • I don't see that extra ring you're talking about, lol. I checked the picture again, it looks the same.

  • 1:29 The hood has a ring around it ..My new canon 24 70 (just bought about 10 days doesn´t have that "ring"...

  • Looking around, looks like the ET-86, you're right, which is indeed for the 70-200 she has in her bag.

Well hey, I'm sure anyone can mix it up :P, looking at pics they look almost identical, minus that ring.

  • you are right, but i have a 70 200 f2,8 too and the hood is a tiny bit too large for the 24 70 and does not fit in the 24 70...also, the lens that she have can probably be a 28 70 (older version)... i guess

  • That whole rig is an f-ing beautiful monster.

  • WOW that is a HUGE camera, i call it JU-MUNGA-TRON!!!!

  • wow most fashion photohraphers and portrait/group/school photographer don't even know what shutter speed is, this lady seems very well knowladged, which means she is interested and when you are interested you want to do well meaning you will produce better images

  • it's true... good observation.

  • nikon > canon

  • Opinion > fact

  • good > bad

lol I thought I get in on this!!! no offense

  • that flash with the bracket is really really nice

  • Nice gear.

  • theres one thing i love and thats when people dont pick up there cameras from the lens <3

  • Picking it up or forcing it out of a bag are different. When a lens is big, you will fix the lens to a tripod and not the camera, meaning it is better for the lens to bear the camera's weight than the other way around.

  • oh lol i always hold my lens and camera at the same time

  • Are you sure? :-) And when not taking photographs do you always put it down?

Anyway I was talking about fixing the stuff to a tripod as an analogy to when holding the camera by the lenses.

  • yes im sure i always hold my camera with two hands always thats just me and if i dont want to hold it i put it under lock and key :/ i know i sound crazy but i want to know that it will always be safe

  • Getty Images photographers are awesome! Harry How, Katy Winn, and Frazer Harrison are the only ones I've seen on YouTube and they are all great!

  • does that Emily the Strange sticker on her flash say "get lost"? ha! cute :)

  • what kind of lenses hood is she using on 3:50?

  • i love her. she seems sweet!

  • its the first thing she says, canon 1d mark IIn

  • its a canon mark 2 dn something like that.

  • kick ass set up

  • what is her monopod?

  • the 70-200 she's using is it the non-is?

  • Non-IS

  • why do fashion/red carpet photographer likes to use a bracket for their flash?... why dont just mount it on the camera?

  • because when you use an off camera flash it will give you a more dramatic look,as opposed to straight flash that gives a very flatt and harsch light

  • does anybody have a flickr????

  • why would she take such a bootleg approach to fixing her eyepiece around the viewfinder?

correct me if i'm wrong (I may be!) but it def. looks like duct tape to me...

  • why not duct tape?

  • it makes it look bad?

i understand it must get the job done, but i find it a little ironic that someone who takes pictures of beautiful people would take such an un-ellegant approach for a repair/securing of the eyepiece.

  • well I suppose I'm personally pretty particular about the appearance of my equipment, I like to keep things streamlined. I like how neat and tidy her flash and bracket setup is... there doesn't seem to be any simple flash brackets for cameras without a grip.

Anyhow, the duct tape works. Looks kind of dumb but so what? Nobody takes pictures of her camera, right?

  • Bwahahaha!

For someone so concerned with the superficial stuff, I would have thought you wouldn't do something as inelegant as misspelling inelegant.

"un-ellegant" WOW! ever hear of spell check?

You even used a hyphen to break up one word after spelling it wrong...try some duct tape next time!

  • 1) thank you grammar police!

    2) @mogwix, I guess you're right, maybe it's just my personal little bit of OCD to have everything spick-and-span (there's your glorius hyphens buddy) :)

  • It's a Custom Bracket, although the one she shows here is best with Canon.

  • CB mini RC

  • What's the correct name of her flash-bracket?

I'm looking for this bracket, but i don't know the name of it.

    please help me :)

    thanks

    mike

  • shes using nikon now a days two nikon d3 and nikon lenses.

  • it's

    1-d-mark-II-n

    not

    mark-II-1-D-n

  • That's such a lame and arrogant thing to say - We know what she meant!

  • Comment removed

  • Miss lady is packing some heat, Thanks for sharing!

  • Can you name the Small lens she mention in the viceo she said Canon 51 4 ? I can't find it anywhere.

  • Its Canon 50mm f/1.4

  • I like your gear..avery time I always watching you...someday I will have some gear like you..:)

  • That makes so much sense.

    Thanks so much.

  • I'm also new to photography, so what's the difference having the flash off to the right side than having it on top? I thought its better to "line up" the light and lens. Thanks.

  • Also when you use the off shoot cord, you don't have an hotshoe anywhere to place the flash gun! so it's also used as a simple holding device!

  • Yes, and when you get the hang of things, you'll appreciate what you can do with off flash techniques. You'll add lots of creativity to your shots compared to it sitting on top of the camera. Experiment and have fun!

  • Can someone please explain to me the point of having your flash off your camera? I'm kind of new to photography, so i don't get it.

    Thanks-

  • i really like this video

  • yeah u got it ....8)

  • canon

  • No brand is for noobs, but you'd be kind of silly to go for Olympus or Sony.

  • And why's that?

  • he dont know what hes talking about. canon is the best c

  • I agree. Canon make great printers and faxes.

  • Why is that? Please grow up. Normal ppl chose a camera that fits them and their styles.

  • sklee000: cannon for noobs

learn to spell? 1 N in canon

  • In addition: Many people rave on about how fast the shutter speed is, but how much do you really need that many fps? Holding that shutter down adds more and more time looking through images to pick the right one, also space on your cards, which your going to need lots of. It's lazy blasting off that many images at once, unless you need to, at that particular time. Depending on the sport and who your shooting for depends on what equipment you'll need.

  • Mark II, 1 DN??? 1DS maybe?

  • 1D mkII N - they updated it to the 1D mkIII

  • Ah, thanks.. didnt know about the "N" part. cheers

  • you'll not see many secondhand because not many photographers feel the need to upgrade to the MkIII, that or their bought very quickly!

  • I have a 40D. do you think it would suffice for Professional Sports Photography? Its got a 1.6 x on the sensor vs 1.4 for 1D. same 10 mp and has a burst of 6.5FPS so isnt that different from the 1Dmk iii but is a lot cheaper!

  • It's got the specs to please anyone. You really need to put into prospective who your client is and what results you feel you can get. On paper it's a fantastic camera but every review you'll find only compares it to the 30D and an upgrade from other less expensive cameras. I'm really thinking there's not much scope for people in your shoes. Wanting to look and produce professioanlly without the expense. This is the only camera I feel suitable for you thats out there.
