  • anyone who can sing and play guitar as well as neil diamond has my heart forever

  • Who cares if he's Jewish, Polish, or Martian. Let the man just SING! He looks like a banker now - saw him on TV last night at Kennedy. Hard to believe it's even the same man!

  • We did a gig in Chicago and this song was one of our encore songs. Sympathy For The Devil and We're Not Gonna Take It wre some others. We did Brother Love and as we were getting ready to go home, Neil was there! He was passing thru Chicago. He hugged me and said it was amazing how I got 22 minutes out of that song. Nice memory.

  • I AM I SAID a huge Neil Diamond fan IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN

  • Pack up the farmers and grab the hand warmers cause everyone knows in Iowa it snows

  • @trekcannondale11 hahahahaaaaa that's good

  • @trekcannondale11 Not a bad comment for a bicycle nut.

  • ive packed up babies and grabbed old ladies...

    TEE HEE!

  • Not bad for a Jewish boy lol Come to think of it so was Jesus.

  • Neil has an amazing voice and awesome music! He rocks..... Fo Sho!!!!!!

  • I effing love Neil!

  • audio is rather low

  • One of the best sing/songwriters ever. Love me some Neil Diamond. Such classics.

  • I've seen him so many times, but the old days were the best, around the "Hot August Nights" times. He was so hot and so poetic then.

  • this is one powerful preacher!

  • No, they never recorded any video of the Hot August Night concert. Noone wanted to pick up the tab.

  • This is a good song, pure classic. The irony in the lyrics is it is about a Christian revival. Funny thing about the song in comparison to Neil is I think, not totally sure but I do believe he's Jewish. Tells you a lot about America's diversity in religions. I am of neither faith myself(I follow an old faith based around the old gods)

  • He is jewish, at least by birth, they call him the jewish elvis after all, but he sings christmas songs as well so I dont know if he is a convert to christianity or still jewish or even if he practices, but this is a singing bluesy happy pop song with a message good to rock out to but its about the God of Abraham, the Father of Jesus, I am what they call a tridentine mass catholic christian, meaning I am in line with the holy father but prefer the old latin mass.

  • @manga12 Neil's ancestry is Polish-Jew but hes' ALL AMERICAN !!!!

  • well even so I know he is American, but the topic in question is about if he is still Jewish and if so if he is a practicing Jewish man.

  • the older i get the more i realize that my dad knows music. used to listen to 'hot august night' until the wee hours of the morning when i was a kid and dad had his friends over. Love it. So many memories. Thanks!!

  • Notice how Neil CAN sing Live. Not too many of today's singers can do this and sound as they did on the original recording. Today's artists use too much signal processing and can never come close to the original recording when they sing live. Neil is an AMAZING singer!!!

  • Pure genius!

  • The concert from 2008 is on DVD and Blu ray I say go out and get it. Awesome concert but an awesome performer.

  • @Warrenredfearn I want it. Do you know where I can purchase this??? Thank you!

  • @ReinaAntilles I got mine from Walmart.

  • @ReinaAntilles also deep discount.com would have it.

  • A TRUTH I SEND INTO THIS WORLD! LOVE CRUSH ANY FORCE

IT CAN TAKE THE MOST GUTLESS SOUL AND TURN THEM INTO AN UNSTOPABLE POWER IN THE WORLD

IT CAN EVEN TAKE A MIGHTY SOUL WITH POWERS AND STRENTHS THE WORLD HAS NEVER SEEN AND LAY THEM TO WAST CRUSHED LIKE A TINNY BUG!

KNOW THIS LOVE IS THE ONE TRUE POWER THAT TRUMPS ALL OTHERS! TAP INTO IT AND LET IT FLOW THROUGH YOU AS WE TOGETHER CHANGE THE WORLD! (( PLEASE REPOST ))(( TELL THE WORLD ))

  • I think this is my favorite of all of his songs, even though ones like "Sweet Caroline" were more popular. This song still gives me chills. :) Thanks for posting!

  • neil Diamond was in South Bend Indian many years ago. Sure do wish he would come back again. He was and is great.

  • I don't know if you ever went to one of his concerts during his early years of his career. He was beyond awesome! Now, his songs will play forever!!! Diamond is not only a singer, and a composer, but he is a very distinct and unique singer.

  • Everyone goes, everyone knows.

  • Wow! That was awesome!

  • Wow Neil was really a hunk!

  • @k8lennon He still is :-)

  • Good early concert footage, before Neil "really" got all Vegas schmaltzy and unbearable.

  • Ahhhhh, those eyes! Looks like the eyes of the man I love every day... lucky me!

  • @MeTwinkleToes I remember as a kid, riding with my dad and listening to Neil on 8 Track. I remember this song very well, it used to scare me, lol. Dad? Why are they packing up the babies and grabbing the old ladies. LOL I remember it just like it was yesterday.

  • @classicwax Lol!It had that effect on me too!!

  • @classicwax LOL...the same for me...my dad with the 8 tracks. Do you remember Porcupine Pie? That was my fav when i was little.

  • @MeTwinkleToes: I am so with you about his eyes. They look like laser beams. When he looks at the camera it's like he's seeing right into your soul. You are really lucky to have a man with eyes like that.

  • @MeTwinkleToes how can you not love this mug.............. yummy

  • @MeTwinkleToes I know what you mean! My sweetheart has melt-your-heart chocolate eyes. He even plays his guitar and sings to me sometimes, too! :)

  • Oh I saw this concert!!!!! In Birmingham Alabama-Fabulous!!

  • He is so gosh darn goodlookin' and sexy even when he is singing this song about a preacher and his revival.

  • I used to sing this song in the band I was in back in the 70's, what a great song....

  • I am an atheist but this makes me want to believe. Mr. Diamond is just so fucking fantastic.

  • Amazin' how a Jewish guy like Neil can imitate a revivalist preacher, right. gang? God bless!

  • neil has more talent in his limp #### than most of all the computer enhanced singers nowadays...a true original is what he is

  • woow

  • I, and my children, have danced around the house to this song so many times! Thanks Mom and...NEIL!

  • He does become Brother Love during that talk about what your hands are for doesn't he? When I was a kid there was an evangelist I just loved named E.J. Daniels, he was Brother Love personified. He could entertain you with his show even if you thought the Bible was pretty much crud. My sister could never stand E.J. though. You either loved or hated E.J.

  • What a great song!!

  • god does he have long eyelashes so hot his music & him

  • Nobody asked, but I think this is the song he should have done for the "Last Waltz"

    stead of "dry your eyes".

  • Neil Diamond =legend

  • The audio is as GOOD as one can expect from a video this age. It's clearer than most too. Are you listening with cordless earphones? There's a sound governor on most of them that peaks the sound out no matter how loud you crank them. I've got KOSS TNT/66's and it's fine. Any louder and you'd just be getting the static and background sounds. Remember what Neil was recording on. It's as good as it's going to get without million dollar equipment so get off the guy's back or find the song elsewhere.

  • I think I can define Neil Diamond in a single word. Cool. The guy puts on a really fun show and the demographic is teens to seniors. How many other artists can do that?

  • I saw the Hot August Nnight Concert in Denver I think it was in 1972. I bought general admission tickets (only kind) at a clothing store who had them in a cigar box for $6.00 each

  • This takes me back to a time long ago when I was a married young mom, I had two beautiful baby boys and all things seemed possible.

So long ago, so much has changed and yet nothing has. I "believed" then in something ethereal.

Now I am cynical but I long for the time when I was not.

  • @MyTwistedSister Listen to Adam Lambert and get the glitter and majic back.

  • @The1gypsyqueen While I can see that he is talented and has a good appearance, I'm not sure how this connects with Neil Diamond other than that they both have/had dark hair and are caucasian. maybe I just don't get it but for me it doesn't connect but I do appreciate your advice about Adam.

  • I love this mother#u¢ker!

  • Yeah the audio is super low unfortunately

  • hypocrit

  • mca -universal

  • Pretty good song from a good jewish boy from Brooklyn. Neil is the best. I've seen him live twice and he puts on a show.

  • Mesmerizing!!

  • Comment removed

  • I'm saved! Thanks Mr. Diamond!

  • This is the BEST BEST BEST Neil Diamond song.... my very favorite!

  • Neil Diamond is not is the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? What? Unbelievable! There should be some sort of requirement, like if you are arguably the most preeminent and important musical artist of your generation, that should count for an automatic induction!

  • They must have forbidden that audience to get up and dance. How can they be sitting still during that performance. You go Neil!

  • observed @3:13 he says:take my hand dear Lord ..not in yours as lyrics state

  • He's been known to change up his lyrics in concert. Shows his creativity!

  • @michaelangel58 can be Dear Lord, God, Father, Jesus

  • My mom like LOVES this song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

  • rock on david spade ;))

  • Hell Madonna isn't rock and roll, she should not be in the R&RHoF....plus some others...He should be in the R&RHoF...because he's awesome...

  • Hell Madonna, and many others in the rock and roll hall of fame are not rock and roll...those idiots are there....He should be

    in....

  • Man, Neil Diamond sure had it going on back in the day..i haven't heard this song in years.I was reading where he isn't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame because he's not really rock and roll..Wow, what a miscarriage..He was a great songwriter and all around perfomer..I remember Hot August Night in '72..it was huge in terms of sales..I also thought he was the best thing in the "Last Waltz" with the Band..

  • Bloody Great

  • i grew up with my mom playing this and sweet caroline in her car as we would go to places

  • great!

Is this from Hot Aug Night era?

much shorter hair than on the album cover

  • Yes, the live album HOT AUGUST NIGHT was recorded later in Los Angeles. Not a bad bit of faux gospel from Noah Kaminsky.

  • I feel blessed!

  • red is HOT on this man....

  • I so wish RCA would release the Hot August Night concert on DVD if it's available. I can't imagine them not recording the concert on film if they recorded it on audio tape.

  • Is it RCA or MCA?

  • Now that you mention it, I think it might be MCA.

  • It was MCA

  • @classicwax mca

  • @classicwax MCA. thought it was released on dvd already.

  • I bought a two dvd set of the concert. Look on ebay or amazon. one helluva set too!

  • I have had it for years, since 1974, two years after it was released. I bought my first on vinyl, and then later on CD. I don't think they filmed it, though, as DVDs--or even VHS was not popular until much later. In those days, they only filmed it if they were going to make a TV show, and then I think the TV station had the rights to the movie, since they were the ones who filmed it.

  • @bsteinagel They didn't have wide screen video back then. For the concert Neil had an Afro hair style that would have filled the closeups (lol).

  • @rvadded LOL. That's awesome. Yeah, I remember the picture of him on the front cover of the album. He looked like he was having a seizure.

  • @bsteinagel hhmm aparently a cinemacrew was there but there was a dispute on who will pay - the recordcompany backed down and neil did not want to fork out either so video was canned bummer alright

  • @bsteinagel hi, I have HOT August night live on DVD if you want i can post you a copy

  • @SuperDouganderson oh yeahhhhhhhhhh

    plz

  • oh yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh plz

  • audio too low thanks

  • Turn your speakers up cause there's nothing wrong with the audio level on this video.

  • I've got my speakers on 100 as well. It's pretty low.

  • Hmm. I always thought he said, "Pack up the babies and grabby old ladies". I thought he must have had to watch his butt around them! Thanks for the lyrics and the great song upload.

  • WOW! all that has to be said....

  • Hearing him sing this gives me very unpure thoughts! I wouldn't have minded getting him behind that revival tent and making him say "Dear Lord" a time or two!

  • @myteemouseredux , Amen and Amen!!!

  • Is it just me? Can you smell the bacon? The eary Sunday AM pancakes? Autumn leaves burning in the street?

  • Not just you brother....

  • Amen Sister ! ! ! :-)

  • Umm, I apologize, I'm a huge fan of ND, but I don't understand your comment?

  • AMEN ... the description and buildup are so real, you can't help but feel you are THERE too!

  • Soooo good!

  • my best friends hubby sings this at karaoke on friday nights just trashed cracks me up lol great song though

  • Fantastic. My favorite Neil Diamond song of all time.

  • I'd sell my own body organs to get this guy to come over to Hong Kong for a concert!!! If Billy Joel, Eric Clapton, Elton John, and Rod Stewart can come over here and they are all old, then ND sure can too. He'd have a sell out concert.

  • Totally awesome. He needs to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

  • Just so charismatic.....

  • Outstanding. Thanks for the posting..Great performances.

  • Really, thank you for putting this one out.

  • Great! I have always loved this song. I forgot how hypnotic his eyes were!

  • great performance....awesome quality....

  • awesome performance, love this concert.
