In conclusion before I'm burned at the stake by everyone in the world that's ADHD has evolved so much that "Big things go boom" can keep their attention for an hour and a half. The movie was fairly easy to follow but the thing is, I DIDN'T WANT TO! I walked out before the end because even through all the "Kerblowie boomies" I lost interest and watched "Terminator: Salvation" which was very good.

Terminator Salvation can't hold a candle to District 9, and it definitely pales in comparison to T1 and T2. It gave away all its twists in the trailer and the only good thing about it was its CGI, and even then it wasn't half as epic as T2.

Compare that to District 9, which had an intelligent, relevant story and interesting characters. Whereas Terminator abandoned its social criticism for want of more explosions, D9 actually has something to say, which makes up for its 'sub par effects' (which were more impressive then Salvation). Effects don't make the movie, the story does. Just look at Transformers.

Have you seen T:Sal? It was notably slower moving than its predecessors, and I'd say it had much more social criticism as well. While it did spoil that Marcus was a cyborg in the trailer, it wasn't a big reveal anyway, giving more than enough hints starting at the very beginning of the movie where he signs his body over to Cyberdyne. It did do a good job of developing his character as well. As far as special effects, D9's were great, but you can't beat ILM's (unless you're James Cameron).

I saw both TS and D9 and D9 was definitely the better film. TS had nothing in regards of social commentary. At least compared to, say, T2, which had multiple scenes made in response to the Cold War, including Sarah Connor's dream which involved a nuclear explosion destroying a city in graphic detail. TS is definitely one of the weaker Terminator films (although it was definitely better then T3).

TS was all about second chances, for Marcus and humanity. A death row inmate resurrected as a machine trying to atone for his past sins, and humanity being hunted down and destroyed by the beasts they created. It also discusses other themes such as hope and the differences between man and machine. I will cede that while conceptually it was very good, it was not executed nearly as well as District 9 was.

There's a difference between a film having a moral and having social commentary. All of the things you just discussed were already covered (and covered far better) in previous Terminator films.

And to add a little constructive criticism that I mistakenly thought the movie had done to itself by existing, the movie in a whole was okay at best, the acting was god aweful and anyone that disagrees probably thinks Vin Diesel was good in, well...whatever movie he was in last. The graphical effects were definately sub par and the prawns looked so blatant I thought I was watching a cutscene in Borderlands. The dialogue was inadvertantly humerous and the story was, to be quite frank, boring.
