agreed. This is a very difficult piece. You should start off with something easier. If you want something easier but of the same style, try Freebird chords. That intro is something like G, D, Em, F, C, Dsus4, D, Dsus2, D. Stay away from Stairway for a while.

You can do it either way. It's the exact same chord. Just depends on where how you like positioning your hands. Some people find moving down a string easier than moving down the neck. Also depends on how your strings sound I guess.
