Seeing this brought back fond memories for me. There is a Sister in my life right now who I would actually trust with my life, that is one of her favorite hobbies.
Without getting all serious crocheting and quilt making is something many blacks (Back in the days) did mostly due to economic circumstances or plain ole ingenuity and of course THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD QUILT CODE (look it up). Crocheting is a lost art for todays career woman. But I remember my mother (RIP) with handmade baby booties, slippers, hats, scarfs, highschool prom outfits (just kiddin LOL) etc. thanks for taking me back in time for a minute. peace
White women also crocheted, and knitted, and made quilts and sewed because that's where clothes and blankets came from. Not Wal-Mart, grandma's or mothers hands.
And yes, they made their own wedding dresses too. With the lace and beading and all.
