  • This whole concert(swar utsav) showed the class of Indian classical.. Kishori amomkar and then parveen sultana, the best i have heard of Parween sultana ji.

  • so beautiful

  • Kishoritai is the gem in the Hindustani Classical music.

  • its so touchy.... lovely.

  • does anyone have a translation of the words

  • @jamdaar

    Sakhi aree ali piya bin

    Sakhi kal na parat mohi

    ghadi pala chin din

    >>> O' my friend, without my lover I feel restless day in & day out.

    Jabse piya parades gavan kin

Ratiya katat more tare gin gin

    >> Since the time he has gone, I spend sleepless nights counting the stars

  • good 2 c balkrisha ayyer on tabla . good upload !

  • Kishori jee renders every raga with full dedication to the swaras.. i think , then she and the raga become one and same thing...which flow like a mountain river.. very swiftly delivering the clear water of every emotion to the right valley of each heart....she is amazing..

  • when one hears this there seems to

be a perfect geometric balance in and

    around you....the essence of spirituality

  • Begum Parveen Sultana is a maestro, but, the difference between Kishori ji and Begum ji is the same difference between Bhimsen Joshi and Pt. Jasraj. Kishori ji is the female equivalent of Bhimsen Joshi ji.

  • parveen sultana ji is more like bade ghulam ali khan sahib. however i think its ugly to compare 2 maestros who are way beyond our judgement.

  • @bandodkar u r nuts

  • @bandodkar Just a humble question for you, Ustadji: Who the hell are you to judge between two living incarnations of music? And, a humble observation too, sir: Spouting off your opinion won't exactly nurture our good opinion of your words. It makes it very hard to take you seriously. It is IMPOSSIBLE to compare two singers, especially when you're talking about the doyens of two different Gharanas. It's really uneducated, too. But, do as you wish; ignorance IS bliss for some, I guess.

  • I wish some one posts her rendition of Basanti Kedar which is the signature raga of her Gharana! The seminal work is the redition by Kesari Bai! ( I mean Atarouli Jaipur Gharana)I read comments comparing her to Parveen sultana! they are from two different Gharanas and there CAN BE NO COMPARISON!

Kishoriji treats her music as a tool to worship her GOD! Her singing is an intensely private affair and the audience / her desciples are just allowed to participate in her worship ,albeit silently !

  • She is an amazing talent. She has no peer - one of a kind. One can go on and on about many others who have this or that but no one can come close to achiving what she has achieved - giving life to a lifeless, abstract art form. Her renditions are measured, precise, elaborate and simple. She is the soul of indian classical music. Full stop. I wish someone had posted her rendition of raag hansadwhani.

  • I attended a concert recently, where we had Ustad Nishat Khan playing the sitar... It made us all speechless....and we thought there was nothing that could top that!! And when Kishori tai graced us with her performance... we were proven wrong!!!

  • cheapo man...... stop being snobbish.....!

  • This is a very nice rendition of Yaman, however i rate parveen sultana way above Khishori Ji

  • With due respect to you all... It is wrong to compare such great singers.. Begum Parveen sultana and Kishori ji are brilliant singers. I think it would not be right to judge such great singers with our limited knowledge of Music.

    No Hard feelings!

    Musically Yours

    Tamal

  • Never compare one singer to another. Most Indians have this bad habit. Each singer is magnificient in own right. What matters is how beautiful the performance is on that day, that is all.

  • This ia a very traditional bandish which is sung my may in a much faster rhythm! here Kishoriji is very insistant on bringing out the devotion and abject surrender of self!Yaman is an evening raga traditionally sung with shringara rasa(Romantic mood)but in the past during a radio3 concert she explaind her interpretation of raga as intensely devotional and thaus lays fundation to her own beautiful improvisations!Bhimsen Joshiji singing 'Eli aaj Piya bin' is the traditional approach!

  • @Psyche1954 I LOVE how all these traditional renditions are all centered around Sri Krsna's RIDICULOUS pastimes! Where is our culture going to? I want more of this, please.

  • @mc1ate1mad1cow

thanks for the recognition between physical act of LOVE and he spiritual/emotional aspects of thedivine Love! the Love between Krishna ad his countless female admirers is the attraction beween the soul and its object of desire, to achieve oneness with its maker, Lord Krishna! We In India did not burden love/Sex with guilt but celebrated sex as a means of procreation and the gift of Life! The Guilt associated with sex is the gift of catholicism, and jesuit priests/ missionaries

  • @mc1ate1mad1cow

Even today,Sanatana Dharma continues to be unaffected by either abrahamic propaganda or neo modernist sexual permissiveness! Our sculptures of khujuraho predates sex pistols or doggy shoopshoop or disgusting rock idols weeing on stage!!Our Culture litrature and music celebrates Creation and humanity and LIFE! period!

I only wish cultureless morons like Arundhati Roy and DMK and MKK and demented historians like Romilla Thapar and Panikar understand this!

    Philistines!!

  • @Psyche1954 Well some people just don't have a pure intelligence. It's all about Sanskaras really. Take a look at Karunanidhi. An apostate wretch who can even dare to think what he said about Lord Ramacandra, should be destroyed. And Providence is doing just that. I loved to see the enthusiasm in your post. Jai Sri Krsna.

  • @mc1ate1mad1cow

Thanks for your kind words! We ( I, specially) can only thank Lord Krisna to have at least granted me the brains to understand even an iota of His greatness! i have NO OPTION but to surrender to bhakti in my own insignificant way! I cant thank Him enough at least to have given me the siritual eyesight!

  • Aha Kishori simply beautiful ... There is a spectacular composition by the South Indian Poet Subramaniya Bharathi where he talks about falling in love with the beauty of Goddess Saraswati that it impairs his learning. I learn to learn and appreciate the fiery Bharathi after I fell in love with Kishori Amonkar's music and her form in this reincarnation Hare Krsna

  • @Dharma1104

    Hi,

I remember at school i had to study the poem " oli padaitha kaninai va va va " and urudi konda nenjinai va va va !,by Subrahmanya Bharathiyar! I can remember only 2 lines! it is many years since i came in contact with Tamil and i am currently reading the novel by Sri Kalki Krishna Murthy! ( like Parthiban Kanavu)The poem you mention sounds sublime and will look for his poetry collection next time I visit Bangaore!

He was Nodoubt a great soul!

  • wonderful, Mind blowing singing.

  • Kishori Amonkar is living Saraswati among us as she makes you feel that eternal essence no other singer can taste. Every time i listen to Kishoti tai, she always brings tears in my eyes and a sense of "reached home" feeling... It is hard to explain what she sings but definitely they are beyond notes and "typical" bandish etc.

  • recommend you go to google video & look up Humming Coconut -- Raga Haunsadhwani

  • werd to your mutha hegde. i feel ya on "reached home"

  • Could u upload Sahela Re -in Raga Bhoop by Kishori Amonkar pl

  • Such a beautiful bandish.

  • if onlymozart was alive

  • Great Voice!

  • Can anyone explain what is the technique for playing the instrument that Kishori Amonkar holds in her hand.

  • that instrument is called a swarmandal (or surmandal which means an assembly of swar (notes)). it is a minor instrument which is tuned to the raga scale being performed. it essentially serves as a drone instrument. many vocalists love to use because to them it gives the rendition of the raga more aesthetic quality.

  • Thanks a lot!

  • always loved her. listen to her bageshwari guys, u'll be on a trip.

  • where can one get that from ??

  • No words ... feels like there is whole another world of swaras when she sings --- Amazing!!! does anybody have her 'Bhup'?

  • Kishoritai is Maharashtra's gift to India! You should hear her Hansdhwani! Man, takes your breath away!

  • It was great seeing a video clip of Kishori as a young lad I just had this tremondous crush on Kishori that incredible voice the emotive interpretation and damn so exquisitely feminine ....

  • Amazing stuff, Kishori Amonkar's singing is divine.

  • What a voice, divine!!

  • Amazing ! Silky voice and superb taal

  • Wow! I searched Kishori on a whim, and was pleasently surprised to find this. Thank you so much for sharing this. Kishori is magic! Pure vocal genius. Listeners of Western music may have difficulty appreciating the talent and musical knowledge that is involved in Hindustani classical music.

  • First understand what it is before commenting. Stick to junky sitarists that are making noises here. Kishori is little too much for you to understand.

  • It's not, I just like leaving comments to see how people respond =P

  • Wow !! u made my day. I do have this in CD format. But video is always great. Even though she is old now, the music is still divine.

  • thanks so much for this. Kishoritai is amazing - I saw her in London a few years ago - magical evening.

  • great songstress. she is divine. her music is an ode to God itself. thanks for posting this video.
