  • Hi, What type of substrate and filters do you use, how often do you change your water?

  • Beautiful tank man! I love the powder blue tang in there.

What does your filtration consist of? am in the process of putting together a 65 gal sw fish only tank, and I am planning on using an overflow box to a sump with live rock and a skimmer, then using a canister filter to pump the water back to the display tank.

You think this is a reasonable idea?

  • did you ever had a problem with the cowfish nibbling at the lionfish??? i have the cowfish so would be good too know , cheers

  • bad

  • hey great tank i recently got my 55 gallon going what filters do you have on your tank?

  • hey guys about im going to set up a 55 gallon tank, about how many fish can i put in it?

  • @ratom212

That's a hard question to answer, some people will say one inch of fish per 5 gallons, others will say one inch per 2 gallons, and others say one inch for one gallon.

For a 55 gallon tank, I would put about 35 inches of fish, and if each fish averages 4 inches, thats about 9 fish.

I have 11 african cichlids in a 50 gallon tank.

  • a tang in a 55 is a no no same for the lionfish they will outgrow it in about 6 months to a year

  • Really nice tank im going to upgrade my 30 sw gallon to a 55 soon and and the fish i have in the 30 to the 55 i really like ur setup

  • @000Idiote Thank You

  • awsome tank i hope your eel doesnt decied to leave like mine did!

  • how can u have a saltwater tank with no live rock?

  • Dont critisize this guys tank, he can put whatever the hell he wants in it, and im sure he is aware of how big they get. shit dude, people are so stupid hah.

  • this shit is tyte man..good work..dont listen to these hatin ass cocksuckers on youtube..its your tank and its fly

  • im guessing half the fish are dead or have outgrown the tank?thats alot even for a 120 gallon tank fully grownout

  • Great tank, congratulations for your effort. I'm in the process too of making my 90 gallon tank, fish only like yours, so don't pay attention to those idiots claiming that your tank is not nice, or it's not 100% fish only because of the presence of a starfish....

Most of them are ignorant assholes believing they are experts in marine biology..!!

No need to run a skimmer in a tank up to 95 gallons if you change the water every 30 days.!!

    Keep up the good work.!!!

  • can you put shrimp with your general starfish? or any type of starfish for that matter

  • beautiful tank man! quick question. where did you get your rock and what type is it? I have a 55 gallon also but donot want live rock, but cant seem to find good safe rock.

  • @chip58123 I get all my rock from myaquarium store its just slate rock I think petco even sells it

  • hey can i keep a saltwater tank with out a skimmer or wet and dry filter?

  • @vijomyda You dont have to have either one of those but its not a bad idea to have a skimmer. I personally never use skimmers but expect to do water changes a bit more frequently

  • Wow this tank is spectacular. I'm going to be doing a 29 gallon saltwater fowlr setup of my own; hopefully I can make it really amazing like yours. Also, I really don't see why people would insult you and say bad things about your aquarium; what's wrong with it? I would just ignore anyone else; if you like your tank, keep it that way and don't listen to anyone else's criticism. One more thing: the false percula clown can also be called the ocellaris clown; I find it much easier to say.

  • This is not a fish only there is starfish in there.

  • @Austin12345678987654 hense the name.. starFISH dumb ass

  • @Joshh2k10 u dont know shit. a star fish is considered an invertebrate. Dumb ass.

  • nice tank tank and fish how much does a 55 gallon tank cost to setup. something like yours

  • awesome tank, trigger fish are among my fav fish :) once my aquarium is cylcle, im gonna get me one \m/

  • wheres the shrimp?

  • Is it safe to have a Linckia laevigata and a Protoreaster lincki in the same tank?

  • Nice tank... do you ever have anytrouble biological filtration??? How does the fluval work for you. I use an eheim 2215. and how has the powder blue held up? just curiuos...

  • What kind of filter did you use?

  • What kind of filter did you use?

  • Man what a nice tank! Very cool I just got a 55 gallon today. BTW half the people that make comments are full of shit and don't have a clue what they are talking about. Very nice.

  • @scott10197 Thanks alot man.

  • how long did you wait until you added the powder blue tang and does the box fish/cowfish get picked on

  • Hey what kind of filter do you use? Do you have a sump in your tank ? Thanks

  • I just use a fluval 405 no sump.

  • cristal clear, uncrowded and the fish are happy as long as they're fed..good job dood. as far as everyone else : who gives a shit.

  • a 55 is not going to be big enough for the tang, trigger, and lion fish together once they grow up, well they will live but a sad life.

  • nice clean tank good job.

  • im thinking about getting a fish only tank...is live sand and rock still necessary? any advice would be appreciated

  • yes it provides nessasary bacterial filtration to keep the tank parameters right

  • @kenocartel live rock boots filtration but if you plan on using copper medication for parasite its no good but another advantage to live rock and sand is micro fauna that the fish can eat

  • cool tank im pretty much getting the same thing but instead of a cowfish im getting a cubicus boxfish

  • sblack please get back to me when everything i say comes to pass so that the rest of the idiots here can understand. thanks

  • Ignore all of the people leaving nasty comments, I think your setup is beautiful and I applaud you for having such a wide variety of fish. We are setting up our 55G saltwater and have heard nothing but criticism people saying it needs to be bigger, dont combine fish, etc. But its our money, our house, our tank, and it's really nice to see that others have successful 55G sw setups. Great work! Oh and what is the long blue fish? I would really like one of those! 5 Stars!!! :)

  • i have a 55 gal drilled tank and its beautiful....i have about 70lbs of LR... fish include a naso tang, scopas tang, 5 blue/green chromis, a pair of wild true percs, a six-line wrasse, a coral beauty angel, diamond goby, 3 peppermint shrimp, approx. 12 blue leg hermits, 5 or 6 snails....all of these are doing fine in my 55 ...and yes i know the naso will have to go sooner or later...but for now he is small and doing great!

  • @rubyfrogs Good job dick. You just ignore all the people trying to give you adveice on stocking. yes its you money and your house but you are killing wild caught fish that were once a part of a beautiful reef that is probably dying fot the hobby. Did it ever occure to you that people are giving advice based on personal experiences. there is nothing easy about keeping a marine tank. I hope you dont have to kill too many fish before you realize what you should keep in one tank.

  • How do you know if they are wild caught or captive bred, seriously if you dont like it then dont watch the video. You do have a choice ya know. No one forced you to watch it, and if it is working for him than its working for him. And I'm not the "dick" here, you are. Get a life. Commercial fishing is doing WAY more damage to reefs and the oceans than the aquarium trade could ever do.

  • @rubyfrogs thank you so much, yea people are always going to have something to say about your setup, but who really even cares thats why i stopped replying like i used to. But i believe you are talking about the Powder Blue Tang.

  • Tangs need room to swim but it's a nice setup for what it's worth.. But that lionfish will ear everything thing if the triggers don't kill him or everything else first.

  • yes they are as far as i know. ive had 1 for a while with a brittle star and a condy anemone and they have all been fine

  • you need to do some research before spending hundreds of dollars on fish just to kill them because you dont know what you are doing. Your local fish store person should be shot for letting you have all those different fish in one tank.

  • wow, you are retarded! there is no set rule on which fish he can put... he has a predator tank with the exception of the powder blue... fowlr tanks can have a wide range of fish!

  • @bigmatt40 You dont know what you are talking about. he doesn't have a predator tank. If it were a predator tank he wouldn't have a shrimp a tang or a cowfish. the lion fish also isnt a predator it is an oppurtunistic eater. so when you feed you fish everythin for all the different fish you will end up over feeding the lion and it will die from bloat. The triggers will also eat the star fish. Please before you talk know what you are talking about. Retard.

  • @bigmatt40 Thank you, some people are just so stupid I swear. I dont even bother replying to these losers.

  • Get rid of the triggers. You shouldnt have more then one in a tank that size anyway. The tang is stressing like crazy. He will eventually get ich and then your whole tank will have it.Triggers feed at night and you probably dont see it happening but i can promise you that they are stressing him. The box fish will poision the whole tank once they start picking him. . the triggers will eat your shrimp soon too.

  • powder blues are the hardest tangs to keep from getting ich and once they do it is a low survival rate..my scopas had ich for a while and i bought a current uv and it took care of it once the parasites left the host for its lay time.....im with lisurfer, powder blue is probably not the best of choice for this tank.........the rest should be alright!

  • also there is only one trigger that i saw...its a niger trigger and they can, if entered at a young enough age, be semi reef safe...

  • My powder blue tang color is pale any help

  • That happened to my powder blue tang, and the fish shop sais it was due to stress. It then appeared to be getting white spots all over it and before long it got white spot disease or Ich. And the way to get rid of it is feed them garlic inriched food, which comes in most pellet food, then put some anti - bacterial killer in the water, you can get it in most fish shops, and it should be alright. If not, speek to the fish shop and see what they say

    hope he lives.

  • I think you have a very nice tank but i have one question for you. What is that yellow fish in your tanks in frame 1:11?

  • cowfish

  • Comment removed

  • nice tank. do you have any tips for snowflake eels and is the tank very diffucult?

  • Nice fish... But The plastic plants gotta go!

  • niiice tank ! 1 wat type of filter set up do u hav? 2. ever deal wit ammonia, that 55 g is pretty stocked 3. how often do u chnge yur wtr?

  • hey i really like your tank!! It's probably the best fish only tank i've seen :) Can you please tell me the measurements of your tank because i want to get the same thing.

  • has the snowflake eel attacked any of the animals living in that tank before?

  • do i have tokeep filter off for tht?

  • i need help keeping my ph down it shows red on the test kit after i knock tht down i can get my fish in there wht could i do i got the ph down drops aswell hopefully tht will work

  • Oh yea, and I heard some idiot on here talking about the how the bubbler is bad. The bubbler isn't necessarily bad, I mean the main "complaint" that i've heard about bubblers is that the bubbles can get lugged into one of the fish's gills but thAT CAN HAPPEN WITH ANY FISH THOUGH! I mean, it's a small minute risk but it doesn't mean it's going to kill all your fish.

  • Exactly, i mean ive never killed a fish because the airstone was blowing, that was just rediculous. People just read books and have no personal experience with tanks. Experience, and trial and error are key to having healthy tanks.

  • Cool tank are any of your tangs reef safe?

  • I see people talking a lot of shit about your tank but I think it looks great bro. I mean honestly, I think it looks very clean and algae free. Very nice! This is basically the setup that i'm going for when I get my tank. Oh, and about the tap water. Tap water doesn't harm fish unless it' not neutralized. It only harms corals and anemones. That's why we have RO/IO units.

  • Thanks man, I dont even see any effect in my reef tank at all and i use the same tap water, Very healthy Flower Pot coral ( 6 months) green button polyp, bubble coral, Clam, Mushrooms. All doing excellent.

  • No one is saying you CAN'T use tap water and grow coral. You can use rain water if you need too but the fact is the TDS content of tap water is what scares people. Sure, you can keep corals and what not but your levels might be a little different... or your algae growth might be different.. whatever the case, keep doing what you are going.

  • by the way, just to further bash your setup and the horrible "facts" that you have been giving out to all there other posters... you should NEVER use tap water and these tap water conditioning "drops" that you have been talking about are for noobs who keep 10 gallon Neon Tetra tanks. they are not intended at all to be used in a Saltwater Aquarium. I dont really have a personal problem with you man, i just wish you would stop spreading and advocating such useless and incorrect information... :(

  • Just so you know, i dont give out any advice to anyone that i have not had tremendous success with myself. If you feel that you have to have fancy reverse osmosis shit to run your tank or you have a better way to cycle a tank than by using ammonia drops "which is the most effective and fastest way" to cycle your aquarium then thats fine DO IT. I know what ive done for years with my tanks and have NEVER had an unhealthy aquarium.

  • Actually, uncured live rock is the best way to get your aquarium to cycle. Even then, you can cycle a tank with 100% dead/dry base rock and still have the levels cycle no problem. There are a lot of gimmicks and bullshit when it comes to this hobby.... and most of the "ways to cycle" are the biggest BS out there. Not trying to knock your style, but there is never a need to add synthetic NH.

  • I have used uncured rock to cycle my 30g reef and it is another good method i just personally believe the ammonia drops daily gave me a better cycle in the long run because i was able to add more fish at once with no death whatsoever because i had a strong cycle, With rock cycling you get a good cycle but you have to add fish very slowly so you dont disturb the cycle thats all im saying.

  • Yeah tap water is horrible.

  • Like i say, ive used tap for years and years and i live in las vegas. Everyone has their own opinion and i respect that but i cant agrree that its always horrible because ive had 0 problems over the years with any of my tanks ya know. ?

  • Do you think an emperor angel fish will fit in their?

  • Can't the loin fish kill those fish, I mean isn't he poisonous. And doesn't that blue powder tang fight with other fish since it's aggressive like that lion fish? and isn't 55 to small for some of those fishes? lol sorry about all the question but this challenges everything I just learn from saltwater fish

  • hey man i'm looking into niger triggers too and i'm about to upgrade my 29 gallon with a yellow tang but won't a trigger and tang be to big for a 55 gallon when they're fully grown how are yours doing

  • No a yellow tang and a niger trigger will do just fine in a 55 gallon aquarium. The tang and trigger in this video are doing well, i do not over feed so there is no rapid growth. Ill eventually move to a 100 gallon.

  • hey, iam considering switching to a fish only tank. what kind of rock is it?

is it eaiser than a reef tank?

    thanks.

  • I think its lace rock with a few other types of rock. None of it is live i bought it all dry at an aquarium store. This tank is pretty easy to keep up just control over feeding and do your water changes. Reef tanks are easy as well just make sure you have excellent lighting and flow plus 0 levels of ammonia nitrate nitrite and youre good. And Live rock. I have a 30g reef im going to post up here soon

  • Comment removed

  • its really a shame that you used that kind of rock. your tank looks like a freshwater angelfish tank with saltwater fish. sorry but it just defeats the purpose of having a saltwater aquarium. but i do have to say your fish look nice.

  • Every tank saltwater tank does not have to be a reef style tank. You can set up a saltwater tank however you want to. I highly disagree that this looks like an angelfish tank, i set it up like this because it is unique. Where is the shame with that?

  • your tang and your cowfish are badass

  • I think your doing a good job, fish look healthy. How often and what do you feed them, because you don't seem to have an algae problem(skimmer?). Also, you must be really lucky, you kept 2 starfish and a shrimp with the lunare wrasse. Mine nips at everything.

  • I feed brine shrimp about 2-3 times per week, i also have about fifty hermit crabs to help control debris in the tank. No Skimmer. My starfish are way too big for the wrasse to pick at and the coral banded mainly comes out at night.

  • -you are under feeding your fish

-do you have any idea how bad air bubbles are for a saltwater tank? i cant wait for you to have an algae bloom

    -

Nigerian Triggers can get up to 2 feet in the wild so yes he will surly out grow your 55, that powder blue wont live in there long either (he has no algae to pick at and all your feeding is brine shrimp)

there is just to much you are doing wrong. makes me sad to see that you dont really get into saltwater, and clearly have no clue what you are doing.

  • Hey Shut the fuck up dont comment on my fucking page again youre a fucking moron, algae bloom right??? Yea post a video of your tank how bout that? youre a fucking moron. Everyone knows that adding pure ammonia is the fastest way to cycle a tank, and what the fuck is a Nigerian Trigger??? Youre a fucking amateur its a NIGER trigger this guy doesnt even know the fish dont listen to this idiot please. Dont come on here acting like you know shit okay.

  • oh dear... what do you think Niger is short for? perhaps you should think and do your research before you talk... the "Niger Trigger" or Nigerian Triggerfish is from the Indo-Pacific basin near NIGERIA! i honestly havent ever seen someone who gives worse information out, than you my friend. And in case you are new to youtube, if you would have clicked on my name you would see that i have posted three videos of my new tank in the last month. you honestly have no clue what you are talking about.

  • Actually they come from the indian ocean which boarders the eastern coast of Africa, No where near Nigeria, sorry man looks like your little fish book is a little inaccurate. Come on man, from the shit you say i dont even think thats your tank in that video you posted, you sound like youre a beginner reading from a how to book.

  • I've nevert seen a redtooth/niger trigger get over a foot, let alone two feet.

  • fukin nice

  • Hey man, I also live in Vegas. Quick question, some of those rocks dont look as though they are store bought. Were they perhaps gathered from the desert?

  • No they all came from the store

  • Important question, could I get away with using tap water vs ro for a fish only tank. Thanks

  • I know plenty of people on here will reply to this saying that i am stupid and wrong but i ONLY use tap water plus drops from a water conditioner from basic water conditioner you can buy from petco and i have NEVER had any problems over the years doing so. Even in my reef tank which i will post soon. I dont know where you live but im in las vegas.

  • no shit man! That's exactly what I was looking for. I am going to now set up a 72g fish only saltwater tank and that was basically the dividing line as to if I should do it or not. Now, regarding the filtration do you ever use any phosphate remover and how about a protein skimmer. A canister would seem to be the easiest route but would it do as good a job as a protein skimmer? Thanks man

  • No i have never needed a phosphate remover i used a skimmer for a little while on this tank but you do not need it if you have a good canister. I am using only a fluval 304 on this tank and i maintain 0 nitrite, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrate and perfect ph balance. I would never reccomend you any method that i have not tried myself and had success with.

  • Thanks for the help.

  • a fish only reef tank is with fish and live rocks plus fake corals and fake plants that is a fish only reef tank?

  • So u only use a cansiter filter for a fish only tank right? can I use a biowheel 200 and a aqua clear 10 filter to make a only fish reef tank is that fine?

  • I have a canister but ive also had a sump in the past you can use whatever as long as it enough for the size of your tank, I dont know what you mean by a only fish reef tank is it fish only or reef? Im using a hang on marineland for my 30g reef up for about 6 months now doing great.

  • High, i got a 55 as well and i was thinking how long would it take for it to cycle with 65 pounds of live rock.

i've had for 2 weeks now.i have heard that sea weed can help with the ammonia and so on

  • With that much live rock, i would assume your cycle has already begun. add 3 to 5 drops of pure ammonia daily and test your water until the ammonia and nitrite read zero. It shouldnt take long at all.

  • dont add synthetic ammonia drops... just wait until you have your bloom and your levels spike then drop. not such good advise..

  • bellissimo acquario......

  • i love the powder blue i just bought a goldrim for my tank you shouild go check it out

  • wow amazing tank... love the snowflake moray been trying to get one for my 55.

how much did the whole thing cost?

  • Maybe around $800 without the fish.

  • do u recommend star fish? And do you QT? And have you had trouble with your cowfish?

  • Starfish are easy, onlyy problem is that sometimes they just dont do well regardless of your water paramiters or feeding, other times they do well u just basically get lucky or you dont. No qt and ive never had problems with the cowfish, even when he gets spun around by the snowwflake eel which is pretty funny.

  • yo black, when you going to post a update of your tank?

  • I have one coming up in the next couple days i just moved in to my new place not too long ago and ive re done the whole tank. ima put a vid up soon here.

  • you realize that if those rocks in your tank have been in there long enough they are technicaly live rock.

  • I want to put a star fish in my tank with my snowflake eel. he is just 2 foot long i have a 2" banded goobie in the tank w no problems and he looks like he can fit in the eels mouth..he did pick off a clown fish but i think he was to slow n got caught.

  • omg..that clownfih will get eaten w/o an anemone....

  • Clownfish DO NOT need an anenome

  • He has agressive fish!

  • very nice, id take out the plastic plants though

  • What kind of filter are you using because im thinkin about starting a saltwater tank?

  • This tank runs on a fluval 304, it is the most effective filter i believe and it is very easy to maintain as well.

  • you have to buy more live rock

  • I avoid the live rock to prevent algae growth, i use bacteria supplement when needed. This is a very mature tank and has all the bacteria it needs.

  • how hard is it to take care of the linckia star fish??????

  • Its not hard just have to acclimate it right and have some good luck that it is healthy and itll do ok

  • why dont u get some anemones be careful they dide if not taken care of right

  • fuckin a man your tank is so clean good job but ugly plants dude

  • tank looks super clean . Looks more like a freshwater tank with marine fish. Either way looks like he is doing something right if it is that clean .

  • what kind off rocks are those cause there like red and they loook fake

  • They are just dried rock, some used to be live rock, the others that are red i bought at an aquarium store, i liked the color on them.

  • nice tank, it looks really.....clean lol. you should check out my videos.

  • Im planning to start a marine. What can i start with, Im thinking damsels, clowns a yello tang and a flame angel. Any one help?

  • blue damsels

  • since your just starting a marine tank i would do very easy and inexpensive fish. im just starting to. i would start out with damsels to cycle the tank. and if you dont like them take them back to the store, or keep em. i have a royal gramma good/easy fish to keep(and pretty) 2 false perculas, 1 banggai cardinal, a sixline wrasse (one of my favorites) and eventually i will get a coral beauty angel. keep about 3 to4 inches of fish per 10 gallons. get at least 55 gal tank. smaller isHARDERtokeep

  • There's no need to put a damsel at risk to cycle your tank. Just throw a piece of dead shrimp from the deli in the tank until it falls apart. The amount of ammonia in that combined with your live rock cycles it just fine.

  • True or a better way is to use pure ammonia drops until the cycle is complete.

  • yo post a updated vid son

  • Yea man i am going to very soon here im about to move everything into a larger tank, im just waiting until i can make the purchase.

  • Who lives in a pineapple under the sea...Spongebob Squarepants!! :)

  • I have a 36 gallon bowfront. What fish would you recommend I start off with...prob Damsels? I want to end with clownfish, preferably percula and sebay. What saltwater fish would be compatible if I'd like to add different ones down the road? Also, would (blue damsels, or any for that matter) be fine with these clown fish I specified?

  • Yea damsels are fine with clownfish, you will have no problems, I use damsels for the first week of starting a tank just to make sure my water paramiters are perfect without taking the risk of killing off more expensive fish. Other fish that would be good for your setup would be Tangs, butterflies, triggers, angels, etc. would be fine, my clown does well with my lion and my eel only because he is fairly large in size. Any smaller and he would be killed.

  • NONE of those fish mentioned can go in a 30 gallon tank. DO YOUR RESEARCH!!!!

  • Look man dont comment shit on my page ive been doing this for fifteen years, i do not need your advice, all of these fish at a smaller size do just fine in smaller tanks, i say that from experience.

  • 15 YEARS! OMG and you dont kow any better? I cant believe you still dont know NOT to put a TANG in such a small tank. Thats scary! Well you obviously dont care about the health and overall well being of your fish or any animal you must own.

  • OMG your obviously just trying to be a asshole, doing your "research" and just ratting on this guy because your just bored.

  • what the hell dude! just because a fish gets large doesnt mean it needs a big tank when its still small. thats just like saying you cant put a small arowana in a 100 gallon tank because it will EVENTUALLY get too big for the tank. you apparently havent ever heard of a growout tank before.

  • a tang, lionfish and trigger all in the same 55g tank? Yea im sure its a "growout" tank. Wow your even worse I really hope you do not house any animals of any kind

  • how am i worse??? who ever said anything about a lionfish and a trigger fish?

  • Those are some of the fish in the tank

  • i know that, but the conversation was about a tang.

oh well, it really doesnt matter, all i was trying to say is that a 55g is fine as a growout tank for a tang or just about any other fish.

  • The fish in this tank are fed once every two days, i do not over feed do to the fact that the fish will create alot of waste causing higher levels of nitrite/nitrate in the water. I also do this to prevent rapid groth, the fish in this tank will not out grow this tank for at least 2-3 years or more for some. I say this from EXPERIENCE

  • exactly, people act stupid by the time these fish get that big, im sure ill be on my second or even third larger tank. They are not that fast of growers

  • is it possibe to change to salt water after have freshwater fish in my tank and would i have to drain the water and start all over?

  • I hear sponge bob in the background

  • Haha, yea that spongebob music was a coincidence. I just happened to be on when i made the video haha.

  • what's up black, question for you at some point will that rock you have in your tank turn into live rock?

  • They could but i usually clean off my rocks about every 2 weeks so they never get a chance to allow bacteria to grow on them

  • say bye two your clown

  • lol spongebob

  • that longhorn cowfish is gonna get up to 18.5 inches

  • it says fish only what about the starfish and eel?

  • That just means no live rock or corals

  • oh kk

  • how do you keep your eel from eating the smaller fish?

  • I really cant hes eaten one of my smaller clownfish, the rest are just too big to fit in his mouth, and the cowfish is too akward shaped.

  • what do u feed ur eel?

  • Sometimes i put feeder fish in there, all the fish chase them around and eat them but usually i just feed him shrimps

  • will a lion mess with the clown????

  • Usually most defineltely a lion will eat a clown, you have to make sure you ger a decent sized clown that is too large for the lion to eat.
