The person sitting at their computer on the other side of the 'internet' is just as real as I am. They are just as REAL as the face to face friend who comes over to my house. My internet friends ARE my real friends and some are family to me. Sure, every once in a while you meet someone who is not who they say they are, but that happens in 'real life' as well. The people I've met online are my truest friends and real family.

The problem is that you KNOW people have spoken about you behind your back, and that you've never been told your Internet friends do so, and thus, you assume they don't.
Actually, it's easier to do so. Your social circles are different. Your location and rumor/hearsay cycle is also different. You'd really never know.

Real life friends are better imo. Real friends are more straight up, internet friends are always happy and encouraging which isn't a bad thing just seems fake. For example you might think you thought of something funny and say it even though its not funny internet friends will always give the ye old "lol" real friends wouldn't laugh and probably insult you lmao. this summer all my real friends were either busy or working and couldnt hang so i spent the summer playing world of warcraft and made a lot of internet friends which kept me from being loonly and i feel about 90% as close to them as my real life freinds and im glad to have them
My friends i met on the internet are better. I don't like to refer to them as "internet friends" or refer to people that i know in person as "real life friends". Everyone is real. I don't have much of anyone in person. I'm really close to some people from the internet and i find it easier to get close to people i've met through the internet. I can't trust people over the internet. Both real life and internet friends are dependent on a trust system, but from my experience, none of my real life friends have violated it, and last time I had internet friends, they practically ALL violated it, which basically explains my intense distrust for people over the internet. People over the internet are easier to get along with becuz they feel safer behind a computer where as RL people dont want to make their friends mad @ them. Really I have 4 or 5 close friends IRL and hundreds i talk to over the internet. My gf is really the only friend i see on a consistent basis IRL and on the internet i chat with them almost everyday for atleast a couple minutes.

Webcams also are another thing that keep internet friends really close together, at any level of friendship over the internet. It gives you and/or the other person (depending on who's camming) more of a sense of who they're talking to, and after awhile it really starts to feel like u really know someone. If you don't have one, it's a really nice thing to have if you have cool internet friends like I do. And, in reality, I like anything that keeps my friends and I together.
Also, if you smoke with your friends over the internet, you get all your weed to yourself (getting you twice as high,) whereas when you smoke with friends in real life they directly consume your weed supply (resulting in not getting you as high as before)

I can usually get a good sense of who I can trust, and who I can't, and sometimes the connections between people you can find is insane from a variety of places in the world. don't get me wrong, I love chilling with people in real life as well, but there are advantages and disadvantages to both. But I do prefer having internet friends because it feels like there's more to talk about since they aren't around you nearly as much.

Internet friends just want you to be on their list just to be on their list. Look at people on Youtube, Facebook, myspace, Roblox, X-Box live, Animal Crossing City Folk Wifi, ETC. Most of the time, half the people on their lists aren't really friends, but people that are there just to be pointlessly there. Real > Internet. Quality over Quantity.
I like real friends, but internet friends are always there for you if you need to vent or you have a problem, because it's not like they can tell everyone or spread rumors or gossip.

yeah i have gotten just as close over the internet to a few people than i have with some of my RL friends. Friends are awesome no matter where they come from. And when you have a certain bond with people, its always special. Internet friends and real life friends are basically the same thing. And from my experiences i tend to be more "myself" right from the beginning of the friendship and sometimes i feel "closer" with them than i do my RL friends. It's kind of a weird thing to think about.
This is the best way I could put this. Be yourself. No one in your life is a true friend if you arent yourself because if you act like something your not when they realize you arent what your acting then what happens? No more friend. Internet and r/l friends are both just as good and all have their own perks and quirks. Internet friends can be reached easily. Real life friends can be there for you during emotional traumas. There both good.
People act different in both real life and the internet. Real friends are going to act more serious and have their true character. In the internet you can just curse someone out and leave them away forever. Even though people online could be honest, No one's 100 percent sure of that.
I've had the internet about half my life or so, and I think it's possible to get good friends over the internet.
My first serious girlfriend I met on the internet, and she lived about an hour away. (Though that only lasted for a few months)
I met my current girlfriend over the internet, but she lives closer to me, and we've been together for 2 years. I would have never met either one of them if it wasn't for the internet.

The closest thing I hav 2 a friend is an internet friend. She is about the same age as me + we send personal messages 2 each other about twice a day. Sometimes I impress her with my eloquency but sometimes I get the feeling she thinks I'm 2 weird. I usually sit up to about 5am every morning and hope she sends a message. I keep checking my inbox every 5 minutes. She is beautiful and likable but completely different to me. I'm lonely pretty much all the time and sometimes just want to top myself.

this summer all my real friends were either busy or working and couldnt hang so i spent the summer playing world of warcraft and made a lot of internet friends which kept me from being loonly and i feel about 90% as close to them as my real life freinds and im glad to have them

My friends i met on the internet are better. I don't like to refer to them as "internet friends" or refer to people that i know in person as "real life friends". Everyone is real. I don't have much of anyone in person. I'm really close to some people from the internet and i find it easier to get close to people i've met through the internet. I really wouldn't have anything if it weren't for them.

Interesting you have a dog...well aren't "internet friends" not too far off from unconditional bonding, such as a dog can give. Could it be that "real life" friends are more dynamic & living with people in a physical sense always has more give and take cause once again living in the physical requires us to do & "be." Wow, honestly I see them as equals. I don't really have friends in reality (call me a cynic) but I also feel that way with my internet 'friends'. When I first started the internet I was aware that the people I talk to might be exactly like the people I deal with in real life, but I didn't let it affect my judgment.. Now I have less OL friends, and I realize phony they are, just like rl friends. Could be b/c all the people I respected has left over time, and now I'm opting for crap.

I don't really have internet friends, I used to have a small circle of "real" friends but we all grew apart. One of my friends is an alcoholic and he's busy partying one minute and then going into depression the next. I think growing up and having to deal with change took a toll on him 'cause he's tryna party like he's still in high school. Then my other friends moved away, got jobs or went to college, and got married. So now it's just me and the Mrs.

I can't trust people over the internet. Both real life and internet friends are dependent on a trust system, but from my experience, none of my real life friends have violated it, and last time I had internet friends, they practically ALL violated it, which basically explains my intense distrust for people over the internet. Also, all the girls I have any interest in are ones I met at my school.

Then I find out we go to the same church. One Thrurseday he asked if I needed a ride to choir practice I said yes he picked me up then after practice he asked me out and the rest is HISTORY. People over the internet are easier to get along with becuz they feel safer behind a computer where as RL people dont want to make their friends mad @ them. Really I have 4 or 5 close friends IRL and hundreds i talk to over the internet. My gf is really the only friend i see on a consistent basis IRL and on the internet i chat with them almost everyday for atleast a couple minutes.

Webcams also are another thing that keep internet friends really close together, at any level of friendship over the internet. It gives you and/or the other person (depending on who's camming) more of a sense of who they're talking to, and after awhile it really starts to feel like u really know someone. If you don't have one, it's a really nice thing to have if you have cool internet friends like I do. And, in reality, I like anything that keeps my friends and I together.

Some of the closest people I have ever met are from the internet. I can usually get a good sense of who I can trust, and who I can't, and sometimes the connections between people you can find is insane from a variety of places in the world. don't get me wrong, I love chilling with people in real life as well, but there are advantages and disadvantages to both. But I do prefer having internet friends because it feels like there's more to talk about since they aren't around you nearly as much.

Well, you maybe wouldn't have met them if there was no internet... But then, the friends you met at school you wouldn't have met if you were in another school. Same thing, right?... I've had internet for about 5 yrs (i'm 16) And I have a lot more internet friends than rl friends. But, I think it's cuz you meet people easier through internet, you know? Sites, games, mmorpg and all those other stuff. In rl, it's not so easy. I trust my internet and rl friends in different things more. Bye bye!!

Internet friends just want you to be on their list just to be on their list. Look at people on Youtube, Facebook, myspace, Roblox, X-Box live, Animal Crossing City Folk Wifi, ETC. Most of the time, half the people on their lists aren't really friends, but people that are there just to be pointlessly there. Real > Internet. Quality over Quantity.

yeah i have gotten just as close over the internet to a few people than i have with some of my RL friends. Friends are awesome no matter where they come from. And when you have a certain bond with people, its always special. Internet friends and real life friends are basically the same thing. And from my experiences i tend to be more "myself" right from the beginning of the friendship and sometimes i feel "closer" with them than i do my RL friends. It's kind of a weird thing to think about.

No one in your life is a true friend if you arent yourself because if you act like something your not when they realize you arent what your acting then what happens? No more friend. Internet and r/l friends are both just as good and all have their own perks and quirks. Internet friends can be reached easily. Real life friends can be there for you during emotional traumas. There both good.

I've had the internet about half my life or so, and I think it's possible to get good friends over the internet.
My first serious girlfriend I met on the internet, and she lived about an hour away. (Though that only lasted for a few months)
I met my current girlfriend over the internet, but she lives closer to me, and we've been together for 2 years. I would have never met either one of them if it wasn't for the internet.

The closest thing I hav 2 a friend is an internet friend. She is about the same age as me + we send personal messages 2 each other about twice a day. Sometimes I impress her with my eloquency but sometimes I get the feeling she thinks I'm 2 weird. I usually sit up to about 5am every morning and hope she sends a message. I keep checking my inbox every 5 minutes. She is beautiful and likable but completely different to me. I'm lonely pretty much all the time and sometimes just want to top myself.
