  • Intense.

  • My brother sang this song at our Grandfathers funeral in 1996

  • This hymn was played at my grans funeral, i miss her dearly so i play this when im a little sad. I've never heard such a majestic hymn, I love it

  • Amazing !!! I love this song !!! Abide with me...

  • majestic

  • i used to sing this in school in the morning hours in the prayer time, now i am about to join a job, but still the memory is so fresh in my mind because this is awesome

  • It makes me wonder how long its going to take the cycle of life to have such influential, profound and sophisticated human beings in this world again. Its clear we have no such people in today's world. Yes, I am talking people like Henry Francis Lyte, John Newton, William Cowper, William Booth, William Shakespeare, John Wesley etc you name them...

  • just lose a good friend this gives me peace

  • @geoffrey4540 Sorry about your lose

  • @MrShonaguy thank you we have to believe that she is with the Lord now

  • It is true and u better believe it, cause jesus is coming soon, but we don't know when..but he's definetly coming very soon. better to believe and prepare otherwise is gonna be too late..

  • @tonganfoilole69 ahh Paul and Peter were saying he was coming soon 2000 years ago..blah blah blah...dont hold your breath...

  • @Pisces31660 It is believed that God knows the past, present and future thus implying that to God time is not linear. Soon in this context maybe a day or even 10000 days. The scriptures also state that after death comes eternity, compared to infinity, a thousand or ten thousand years can be considered as "soon"

    Cheers

  • So beautiful. Tears are running down my face and my cat is in my lap meowing. She came to me when I started singing this song. Strange.

  • Not the lyrics I remember from my late partner's funeral. I thought it ended "In life and death, Oh Lord, Abide with me"?

  • @Feisty1967 This isn't the full song, they miss the final 2 verses. You are correct that the final verse ends "In life, in death, oh Lord, abide with me."

  • Tony, may this beautiful English hymn comfort you in your period of bereavement

    Myra xxx

  • This is my favorite hymn. it makes me cry...so gorgeous.

  • "Through cloud and sunshine Lord abide with me ! " That's so deep

  • ..ultimately, the best 'song' of all time..

  • I lost my sister today... this hymn helps my sorrow..

  • even on death or life Lord let every bro & sis of mine may abide with u in good and Bad Thank u Jesus!

  • This is the very first song I learned to play on the piano.I picked it out like 5 years ago! It's also the first hymn I played on the organ. Know when I test a piano, Or organ, I play it first! Such a beautiful hymn!

  • this song gives me hope!

  • Moved to tear by the powerful words of this hymn....and I too heard it on "Latter Days", one of my favorite movies.

  • The most beautiful of all Christian hymns and not a loud guitar or drum in sight. Thank Jesus for that. Amen!

  • I sang this at bible camp, but it was a bit more upbeat and spunky and no organ...gooood memories :,(

  • This song was sung by Allied forces when they where captured and lost in battle in Operation Market Garden..

Also in the movie " A bridge to far" you see that when they had surrendered their soules, and the germans took them away.. and they sing this song.

I felt the tears in my heart fall, but not from fear or danger.. But from God, because he is bigger then all of that.. Jesus said: Do not fear someone who can take your body, But fear the one who can take your soul and your body..

  • I sang this song seven hours ago. Today we buried my grandfather. Faithful Christian, an elder of the church for 25 years, married for 64 to my grandmother. I know where he is and who he will always abide with. How do I fill his shoes?

  • @twinglow9801 sorry 4 your loss but u will never fill his shoes and i mean that whith respect 2 you and your family he is in your hart every day take care

  • @twinglow9801 My heart goes out to you. I don't know you, but I feel the hurt that you feel. Yes, we can know where they are .. but our solace is hymns like this that bring remembrance to who they were. God bless you for caring to remember a loved one by saying this. Ray

  • I love this song

  • I sang this at my Grandma's funarel!! :(:(

  • this is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written with some of the most touching lyrics ever penned.

If this hymn fails to move you regardless of your personal faith or lack thereof I pity you for your lack of comapssion.

This is a song of both sorrow and hope, and brings both to any who care to listen and appreciate it.

  • i first heard this beautiful hymn in a movie called "Latter Days" i recommend it. It's a story of conversion. But i don't believe Jesus is coming soon. They thought that in Peter's time. Remember: You do not kjnow the day or time of the Lord's coming.

  • @Pisces31660 I too heard this powerful hymn in the movie, "Latter Days". My most favorite movie. and you are right, for no one knows the day of His coming.

  • @joelt6502 i just showed "Latter days' to a new friend who is having a very difficult time coming out. He remarked how beautiful the hymn was.

  • @Pisces31660 May your friend and our 'sister' find the strength he needs to face whatever trial he is to face. After all, as the Pointer Sisters sing, "We are Family!.." Let him know he has a few 'sisters' behind him ready to lend support!

  • @joelt6502 you are soo right...thanks Joe...

  • @Pisces31660 and what did you think of "Latter days"? that is where i first heard this hymn. i have loved it ever since.

  • @Pisces31660

"Behold I am coming quickly..." (Revelation 3:11) "Behold I am coming quickly..." (Revelation 22:7) "Surely I am coming quickly." (Revelation 22:20) "Therefore you also BE READY, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect."(Matthew 24:44) And there is way more...

I really recommend some series on YouTube:

    Discover Prophecy - David Asscherick.

If you are interested, it is going to be a blessing in your life. God bless, when you are going to listen to/watch it

  • @MariaRiemersma i dont have faith anymore.. i wish did believe as i once did..i am moved by spiritual music but organized religions have ruined it for me. Muslims, Christians all of them are so hateful and the opposite of their spiritual leaders teachings..corrupt to the core. i want to believe n pray but i have such doubt. i would love a sign...life has made me jaded in this regard. science has advanced thoughts that make it increasingly difficult to believe in an external god.but i hope thr is

  • @Pisces31660 I agree with you on many of the points you have pointed out. God's ways are not the ways of man. If you believe in your heart and ask for a sign, you will see it as clear as day or you will hear a voice talking to your heart. "be still and know that I am God"

  • @mayababy78 thanks for taking the time to write. i have been waiting for that sign for decades. I have come to believe the "god presence" is only within our own conscience. The scriptures are only guides written by ancients who knew far less of the world/sciences and who tried to understand the mysteries of the world (that science now explains ever increasingly). I've asked for tht voice. I have MA in Theology, Psych and Philosophy. I do hermitage retreats. Zen meditation is the best ive found.

  • @Pisces31660 Dear friend, many of the great feats achieved by the ancients are yet 2 be explained by modern science. Perhaps they knew far more then we give them credit for. The Hindu's stared worshipping the 9 planets 5000 yrs b4 modern science confirmed it. The ancients were able to predict the seasons far better then most modern intellects. Even modern science cannot totally comprehend how the ancients built the pyramids and their location too cannot be coincidental. Modern sci is not all gud

  • @mayababy78 in the end i prefer to sit in the mystery. in the unknown. i prefer to live by the words of Thomas Paine. "the world is my country and to do good is my religion". Or "Act justly, Love tenderly and walk Humbly with your God" (Micha 4;6) (& to add the AA slogan "God as you understand God"). But i do love this hymn for sure.

  • @Pisces31660 OMG! I LOVE that film<3

  • what a wonderful song!! Jesus is ours and will return. we sang this walking out of my grandpas funeral. i miss you grandpa. have faith!!!!!! believe or try if a non believer.

  • I feel so good with this music, as if everything is going to be alright afterall.

    Thanks for the music

  • The story of the writer of this song makes it even more poignant.

  • i love this song

  • Penned two weeks before the hymnwriters death: the words of a man facing into the abyss but knowing in whom he could trust.

    Stunning.

  • @glenngibbonsrocket Wow!...I did not know that...so powerful, the words.

  • beautiful

  • the best yet to lift your spirits

  • Look forwards to Christ's return on Earth!

Mat 5:5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
