Not all of his constituents are torch-bearing, pitch-fork-waving lunatics. But quite a few are predisposed to prejudice, xenophobia, and violence.
McCain would do well to distance himself from such people. Instead, he disregards these supporters as "fringe people" because he needs their vote.
His campaign is in shambles.
