-Do bluesy bands likes Zeppelin, Floyd, Joplin, Doors, Hendrix, and The Who give you chills? Are you physically attracted to seeking truth in music? Well I am formally inviting you to take a listen to my channel, Using your open mind take the time to hear my tunes... And in case if you end up liking it, your subscribtion to my channel will help me show the world my music. Much Love.
1968 was a traumatic year in America. The summer of 1969 was a kind of catharsis for many disenfranchised people. Sure, it was about the music. But it was an event of singular note in world history. Could it happen again? Many would say no. But, I think that when enough people become disenfranchised with the status quo another such event will congeal. It may not be music oriented, but it will be catharthic and commercialization will be a post-event phenomenon...like Woodstock.
While I appreciate your video, I want to make a small yet vital correction: capitalism is based on people trading with other people which makes BOTH parties wealthier than before. that is such an important point if you ask me (which you didn't. :p)
Just because people are making money off of this event does not mean it is the people who were at Woodstock. I can tell you I was a "hippie" in the 60s/70s and I marched in streets against a war and in favor of equal rights for racial groups and gender groups. I would welcome single payer health care (I make a good salary). The dudes selling the Woodstock shit are not my friends and I wont be buying their crap. BTW all those cops pulling me over thought I was a real American! NOT!
I'm sure that was part of the whole thing as well. Of course, that definitely doesn't change the point I was making. I doubt people claiming "American Values" and "American culture" want to lump "lots of music, sex and drugs" along with it. :P
I think what the idea is that (although capitalism is the same respectively) the American culture of today has been largely influenced by the free nature of the Hippy subculture. I hear what your sayig but the powers that be today are the youngsters of that day.
The marketing is absolutely not cool in fact it's square, but the people who made it happen will never see a cent.
That's true, though I do want to point out that the not everyone who was a youngster then was part of the Hippy movement. And not everyone who identified with that movement then was true to it. There were lots of posers back then, much like now. Though I'm sure there were idealists then who sold out those ideals for an MBA as well. It's one of the reasons why I have little respect for much of Baby Boomer generation. I know there are exceptions, but most have sold out and are the enemy.
LOL! That's ok. I was doing that in my head when I was thinking out loud about what year Woodstock happened. When I finally said it was definitely 69, I had already done the mental math.
This is why late night is not a good time to record videos.:P
When I watch Woodstock documentaries I usually end up feeling somewhat sad in the end. We felt like we were a growing force that was going to be able to overturn the culture of greed and war and begin a new era of cooperation of all peoples around the world. That force, however, mostly dissolved when the Vietnam war ended. The war had been a focal point of opposition that held people together and, once peace had been achieved and Nixon gone, there was no huge cause for which to rally around.
I didn't exactly grow up during the time of Woodstock, so I don't really have any nostalgic feelings about it, but this video still poses some good food for thought. Personally, it's not the buying and selling of 'hippie' stuff through the free market that bothers me, it's the evils of real corporatism that bothers me. But this was still a good video.
I have friends who were part of the old hippie culture, and they're now doctors and executives and stuff. The love is still free. Everything else costs money.
Wow, what part of PA were you stuck in? If you were in Schuylkill County, that's no surprise since alot of drivers in Schuylkill County are as brainless as the idiots on Youtube.

Missed Woodstock-but I sat smack dab in the middle of Altamont. It is like a nightmare way in the back of my mind.

I thought the idea behind Woodstock was to listen to music while having large amounts of sex and drugs.

I've been to Harrisville before, it is a nice little town. Barkeyville, not sure, I know I've passed by it a few times.
