No, not without you Joni...I would have never moved to LA from KY way back in 1980. California was my destiny, as was music and I have had my part in both. I pay constant tribute to me lady, Joni Mitchell...who I have followed all of my 54 years. You are my heart. May you live a long of life as you wish. You are loved by me and obviously many more...xoxoxo
I was on a Navy oiler in 1972, in the Tonkin Gulf off the coast of North Vietnam. In October of that year we got orders to return to the United States, and we would play this song every time a ship came alongside for an UNREP. I still have a soft spot in my heart for this song...
I have long considered Mitchell one of the four great Ladies "J" of folk music, along with (Joan) Armatrading, (Joan) Baez and (Judy) Collins. People today seem to think (Jewel) Kilcher is the be-all and end-all of folk music. They just don't get it. I consider Kilcher an honest artist but not a good artist. Too bad real folk music isn't around anymore, just some introspective and self-serving "acoustic" performers who don't have a clue. Kilcher should listen and learn from the past!
@ejslurb2007 Oh, come on! How can you critisize something you obviously don't know anything about? There is ALOT of "real" folk music today. Joni Mitchell is ofcourse one of a kind, and there will never be another one like her. But there is still loads of great bands and artist. So PLEASE stop complaining about everything.
@bringembla My, Bringembla, aren't we feisty today!? First of all, I know plenty about this; I am a trained professional folk-rock singer with almost 40 years in the business. Secondly, I don't complain about everything, just things I don't like. Third, I'm never too old to learn new things. If there are specific folk music artists today who you think are worth hearing, feel free to mention them to me. I'll be glad to listen and judge for myself. Thanks, and peace and love!
a place unto herself. Her music will always be new and foreign to those who hear her for the first time. Whether your in high school just coping or in a jazz band looking for the true innovators Joni is somewhere down the road -for you to discover, or rediscover again and again. a diva original.
