You should try roller setting your hair before you blow dry its less stress on your hair, or just roller set and then flat iron its less heat and stress and the result is way better. PS you have gorgeous hair.
Can you please just tell me the exact model and make of your hair dryer - I really need something simular but can find one like it - I am also very excited since thanks to your comparison on straightening irons I have decided to purchase a maxiglide of my own from the states - I will use with a voltage converter since they don't have anything like this in the uk also - but I can't wait - so many thanks for your videos again :-) Best wishes and god bless you x
hey there - I just wanted to say thank you so much for what you are doing here - you are providing some much needed help for a lot of women out here - I am overwhelmed actually you have provided some really sound advice and also have given me the confidence to experiment and apprechate my hair. I live in the UK - in Wales and there has not really been much scope of support as far as afro hair grooming / styling is concerned - but with you help I am sure I will not be able to achive so much more
you may look wierd, but what i did was i simply let my hair grow out until it was a length i could stand, THEN i chopped off the permed ends. you just have to get it pressed or whatever, your hair will still look nice, just don't wear it wet!
I saw your video a couples weeks ago and I wanted to thanks for the Sabino MB suggestion and your blow drying tips. I finally figured out how to blow dry my hair quickly and effectively.
OMG it worked!!! I tried it and it ACTUALLY WORKED!!! I tried it today and it came out great. but the thing is that i didnt use the same products like you did {i decided not to copy yours:)}, and i only used 2 products, but u used 3.
Well anyways, it really came out great and im so glad it worked! Thanks for posting this it helped alot!!!=^D
wow, your hair looks great! i like your natural texture best though...God don't make no mistakes lol! anyway, I was wondering how short your hair was when you BCed and now I know...it grew a lot in 6 years!
I love this video! I followed most of your steps (I took some steps out b/c it was late and I was tired) but I loved my hair after following most of your other steps. I actually refer back to your video to make sure I get all the steps down and I have bought almost all of the products you have mentioned. It's hard for BW to find out exactly how to take care of our natural hair and my hair has been a mess since I went natural 3 years ago b/c I didn't know what to do with it. You have saved me!
what kind of styles did u wear when u first went natural? ive been natural since last oct and im not really used to having short natural hair, so im kinda stuck on styles to wear
When? I cut my hair Dec 30, 2002 to about 2 inches all over. Before then it was about armpit length (about the same length it is now) in the back and shoulder length in the front and I had bangs.
Thanks. I use just about everything. I'm not married to any particular brand. It took about 3 years for my hair to be at my armpit front and back. Another year to midback.
:) your pretty... well im only 11 and im not sure if this would work for you depending on different ppl..
(im african amercian) yuh... so when i straighten my hair
(i do myself usually) i use is- softee herbal gro
it works good and it keeps hair from breaking and makes hair stronger but not thinker but stronger so if u want that i just wanna let u kno it works :).. your very pretty. seriously
That is good to know. You hair is similar to mine and I have had quite a few issues b/c my hair breaks easily too. I hope my hair will be that long (at least to armpit) by next year since I finally know how to take care of it. I only know one other person that is natural and she prefers the TWA. But my hair is at my neck now (after 3 years cuz of breakage) so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that after seeing your videos and some others, it will keep growing. :)
It's basic, shampoo and deep condition weekly. Conditioner rinse every other day or so. Twist into 6-12 twists nightly with curly pudding or kemi-oyl pomade etc to wear a daily twist out or puff/bun. I rarely do twists or anything anymore, too lazy.
Girl, your natural curl is so pretty!! I just had to tell you that. Thank you for taking the time to post this video. I'm in the process of going back to natural so I can wear my hair curly. Namaste!
Thanks, your video is so informative. I've been natural since late '05 and I've just worn it curly or picked it out. I'm gonna try your technique soon.
I loved your approach to blow drying. Im a natural, been all my life but never looked at blow drying like this.. cause my hair breaks so easily. I also taught about getting a dominican blowout, also I couldnt trimmed my hair Ill just have to pay to get that step done.. But thank
Oh, bad editting. I was saying that hair oil/grease is a sealant. Meaning you use it after the actual moisturizing product. Something water based is more moisturizing than oils. Oils help keep the moisture in. Sorry about that.
They can make fun. You be you and be individual. Start trends, don't be a clone that's how I feel.
And I am quite sure that you work it and are gorgeous. The sooner you learn how not to care about what "they" think, the more you'll grow and realize that nobody has a thing on YOU! They wish that they couldhave your style, your beauty, your individuality and overall, your FIERCENESS!
You are my hair twin! I can't wait to reach your length. Your hair is beautuful. I have a blow dryer, but I didn't know how to properly use it on my natural hair. Thanks for the tutorial!
YOu probably had breakage from Cream of Nature because they started putting sulfates in their shampoo. I use natural , organic shampoo lika Jason, Aubrey Organic's, Pureology, and Burt's Bee.
thanks so much for the helpful video! one question - how long does it take you to blow dry your entire head? when you first started, how long did it take?
Blow dry. about 30-45 minutes IF it's wet, I guess. Most of the time if I blow dry it's olly damp. On this video... Over an hour because I was watching TV.
Thanks!! Nope. I could go the rest of my life without shampoo, I think everyone NEEDS conditioner. My texture would look the same, but it would feel like straw and probably fall out of my head without some sort of moisturizing agent.
Question: When you cut/trim your own hair...how do you do it so that it is even and not lop sided? Is there a technique to this??? I could use some tips if you have any! ;-)
I've been trimming since forever so i can pretty much eyeball what works for me. Overall it's not lopsided by luck. :)
Most of the time when I do an actual trim I do it while I am twisting my hair. I never take off more than a half an inch. anything more than that is a CUT to me. So each small section, I trim the ends off. Then when I am done, I grab the opposite section and pull them to see if they are almost equal.
I actually 90% of the time just wash my hair and go. I sometimes put it on rollers and sit under the dryer. And when I want to wear it natural and stretched, I twist it into huge twists and lt it air dry. :)
And you're right, it's much easier to just let it be.
YT is a mess lately-my first comment never went through! Your hair is long! Wow! You are so pretty, look at you...I used to use that blow dryer, too before I got into the round brush thing. LMAO@ the dominican salon with smoke blow dryers! That is funny because since I stopped going to a salon like that, my hair isn't breaking anymore and don't have a sore scalp (lol) Excellent tutorial.:-)
Omygoodness, your hair is soo long! I'm going on three years this May and I LOVE my hair! Thank you for this tutorial, cuz I wanted to blow dry my hair tonight...:) Nice vid!
hey, in your video u mentioned that creme of nature caused damaged to your hair, i was wondering which of the creme of nature products was it was it the shampoo?? thanks just curious to know.
It's their new stuff: New Chamomile and Comfrey Healing Conditioner for Dehydrated Hair.
I was using it all week, then realized that my hair was getting web-like. The I clrified and used it and my hair tangled together in one big knot. It took me hours to detangle it. I never like any of the CON stuff though. None.
I Co-wash maybe 2 times a week. And I use the conditioner that's on sale. I find that when I buy the expensive stuff, it doesn't do anymore than than Suave or the cheap organic stuff.
This is way toooo long of a process. Nobody wants to spend 6 years on their hair-they want instant gratification. Beautiful hair though.

Wow! Your hair is uuber curly. I did not not expect for it to be that long. Why don't you do plaits sand sit under a hooded dryer...less effort, no?
Eden2Gethsemane 4 years ago
Hey!
I actually 90% of the time just wash my hair and go. I sometimes put it on rollers and sit under the dryer. And when I want to wear it natural and stretched, I twist it into huge twists and lt it air dry. :)
And you're right, it's much easier to just let it be.

Yes I am a member of LHCF. I am 1QTPie.
And my skin is a work in progress. I need true light so you can see it's ok, but not as cute as this camera likes to make it. :)
But for the most part I use Neutrogena products. I use their gentle cleansing soap. Then I tone with Neutrogena toner.
Then I use their on the spot treatment all over like a moisturizer; then I moisturize with Olay for oily skin mixed with Emu Oil.
I do a bunch of other stuff, that's the basic stuff.
