I am looking at building a Intel i5 2500K based server. But the focus will be on undervolting and underclocking for lowest wattage usage. This system will be powered using an M4-ATX 250Watt 12VDC power supply and fed by solar & battery. Can someone do a video on underclocking & undervolting an i5 please? .-.-.
With my Ram 1333, DRAM FREQUENCY option, which number should I put?
I would like to get to 3.4 Ghz (I do not need more). Can you tell me the values(BLCK etc.). The voltages can leave them in automatic for this little overclock ?
@Uddel2HD MOST i5's have the same overclocking capabilities BUT an i5 2300 is a pussy over clocker an i5 760 can outpower a 2300 due to its great OC'ing ability! BUT that does no mean that the 2300 is shit all i5's are great and REALLY REALLY fast cpu's
@TheChriswaa Your watercooling setup has obviously failed retard. Those temps are unnacceptable even for OC and WC. It can handle that temp nonetheless, but it's still to high for WC Standards, and as a matter of fact, I do run a custom WC setup. GPU x2 , Chipset + Volt destrebuter, CPU.
Running at about 35c at full stock load. OCing my Gulltown I7 to 5.2GHz will run at 67c, acceptable temp for that insane speed. I usually OC at 4.6 that will be 45c.
@sonicfan7 It's because of the CPU core voltage which is unnecessasrily high for those clock speeds, you could set the voltage manually to lower value (also disable that auto-set feature) and still get stable results.
He's frying the CPU... Temperatures over ~75C are damaging the CPU and decreasing its lifespan so umm i wouldnt recomend overclocking that high and runing 8 instances of Prime95.
I just ordered this board and 16gb of ram using a core I3-530 for my 1st build and i have xfx 5670 as a main card + 9400gt for the physx will this be okay on this board?
I have a Asus rampage Extreme lll + i7 980x Extreme series + Corsair Dominator GT+ Corsair H70 and i have it running at 4.5Ghz at 50-80 c with the memory clocked at 2113Mhz 7-8-7-24

@MrToesterMan Over clicking is a slow arduous process. Google 3 step oc guide and click on the one that says updated. If you run in and start changing settings without having a plan you will end up with an unstable clock and not know where to look for fixing it.
@MrToesterMan Nah go with 2 x 2 gb. On an am2/3 or 1156 board I would get dual channel 1800 speed ram then you can start with it underclocked at 1333 and move it up as you oc your system. If you have 1366 then go with 2000 speed 3 x 2gb triple channel kit.
Thanks :) Just oc'ed my friends Core i5 750 to 3,7 Ghz :) Siberian Tiger II water-cooling (240x120 radiator w/ 2x120mm fans) keeps everything nice and cool :) Done almost 9 hours of Prime95. Max temp around 66-68 C :)

@INCC74656I calling bs on this. No way is water keeping you that cool under full load with ht on. My 860 idles at 41 and peaks at 65 at 4.4 w/ 23 c ambient. Ek supreme hf, hw labs black ice xtreme gen 2 360 rad, and panaflow 115 cfm @ 2700 rpm fans. Would really like to know what you have bc I haven't seen anyone hit 4.8 wo dice, phase, or ln2.
@1337manne Because the H70 only has a single 120 rad and can't pull enough heat from an I series chip to pull 4 ghz with reasonable temps. I5 has a TJ max of 99c. That cooler isn't going to keep it below 80 c. I tried to do it with an 860 and by off. Put two panaflows in push pull and 4 ghz still topped out at 84 in occt.
@israeldogfather adjust base clock to achieve 4ghz, then go for around 1.3 volts probably and test with prime 95 making sure temps are ok too. then lower voltage until prime 95 starts getting errors. if it does, raise the voltage a little bit. run prime for 24 hours without errors and your system should be stable. The goal is to get the lowest voltage possible without getting untable. less voltage=less heat+longer lasting cpu :D
@Swaggerboyyy more space + more fans + Sli or Crossfire = larger electricity bills, bragging rights, and fast gameplay on the biggest monitors money can buy. Did you see the size of that PSU? DAAAAAMN! What a monster!
if i do this on my comp whit i5-760 and ASUS P7P55D-E LX , i cant use the original cpu fan ... or ? and what cpu fan do u recommend (not to expensive.. ) ??
I have a question. if it is possible that you can make a guide how to clock the Asus MAXIMUS III FORMULA also. because it is not the same as the 2 others. a lot more things you can do with this card. would be of great help in anyway if you could do it. need to clock my computer
@Ewansud it's because the TIM takes a while to cure, and because they had just recently put it on, it was still in the curing stage. Once it's done the temps will drop 10-15 degrees or so.
That ain't right...the i7 8xx series got more memory lanes to it than the i5 7xx series and that gives i7 better throughput. Its not all about clock speed when it comes to modern CPUs.
Why on earth do you want to overclock an i5? There is an i7 extreme...oh you got no money, sorry! But, its much more fun to overclock the latest and greatest i7 extremes, knowing that you will be the fastest.
Clock for clock, i7 will be faster than i5. The i7 got bigger memory bandwidth. Hence, faster memory communication, better utilization of faster graphics cards or in other terms...no bottlenecks.
@Blitz4000 roflmao amd phenom is 4 times better than a core i5 its even better than some core i7 and you're noob if you buy a core i7 extreme because intel is fucking bad for overclocking and a normal i7 would be as best for games and every day use. besides i bet you're not rich you live with your momma and in the basement you have your computer and thats all what you have. have fun with it XD
Your just saying Intel is bad, Intel is bad and yet you don't say anything to justify your claim. You're an idiot, fool! You know nothing at all because you're stuck with AMD and because you ain't got no money.
@Blitz4000 hehe now you're going mad let say that intel i7 xtreme costs €1000 and amd phenom X6 1090T costs €300 which you wanna buy ? (i am a informaticus but you're maybe not) amd is maybe not better but its better then the normal i7s and you pay €599 for the best 'normal' i7s and the phenom X6 1090T has a unlocked multi and you're not paying much for that performance. ye you have slitly more power conumption but thats worth it intels are bad overclockers and some are bad gamers amd not
I would disagree with you about Intel being bad overclockers. Overclocking really depends on the whole setup and not focused only on the processor. Some dumbasses don't have a clue in PC building and they end up blaming the CPU if they fail. i7 1366 series has better bandwidth, better architecture, better electrical efficiency, better safety features, threads faster, better instructions, and a better multi-tasker. Price is never a problem for me. What is your CPU score on that AMD?
@livai007 : Where the hell did you get your facts? The Lynnfield series overclock by far the best out of any processor series. Overclocking by 1GHz is easy on an i5. And further more Intel smokes AMD hands down. AMD is only for budget builds. Can you be anymore misinformed?
@livai007 Ah the lie of the decade. Go check tomshardware benchmarking results. The I5 750 beat the 1090t in both processing ability and gaming plus its $50 cheaper. AMD is nice if you don't mind having processors that are technologically a generation behind, lol. Poor AMD fan boys.
@Landrar It depends what processor you choose to buy. With an AMD 955 and an AM3 motherboard, you could be saving about 100 dollars. Many people would argue that AMD processors offer more bang for buck because of this, because in most tests you won't see a 100 dollar difference. I guess it depends on what suits whos needs
@NewGameReleases Fair enough, but if that's the performance level that works for you then a c2q with 775 mb is about the same price for the same performance. I think you need to compare apples to apples and doing that with Intel's and AMD's latest chips isn't doing that. AMD has always, minus one short stint with athelon II, been a full generation behind Intel. That's still true and what causes the price difference.
@Landrar :) I just looked today and you can get an amd black edition quad core from newegg clocked default at 3ghz for 100 dollars. Both are still good, it just depends on what you want/ your budget
Nice video, this guy know's what he's talking about :p. Although I'd suggest not to use any automatic voltage setting at all since it increases the temperature tremendously. In fact, if you are only on air cooling I wouldn't up the Vcore at all.
@DXcellence718 There are some exceptions of course, that Noctua cooler is better than most low-end water cooled sets (it’s better than the Tt Bigwater for example). But still; if you’re playing with voltages you have to be very careful; better safe than sorry with expensive hardware.
@12cyberspy12 True, but that I5 out performs that 6 core in almost every situation, too. Go Google the benchmarks for the 1090t and you'll see I'm not lying.
my i5 750 is at 3.36ghz idle at 43 degrees C using a arctic cooling heat sink and thermal grease. but when i take it to 3.4 it jumps up to 52 idle. should i get a new cooler or am I doing it wrong?
I love my Core i5 750. I have it stable at 4GHz on air with a Vcore of 1.232 volts and it idles 42C and hits 60C under load. AMD can suck it! (Just kidding AMD fans)
In my opinion, Core i5 750 is the best cost/benefit processor nowadays. I also love my Core i5, I'm thinking about exchanging my other pc (Q6600) for another Core i5
I have Core i5 750 @ 4.1Ghz on a Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2 with 4 gigs Corsair XMS3 1600Mhz. Air cooled by a Titan fenrir.
Core voltage of 1.35V-CPU VTT of 1.37V- P55 chipset at 1.14V -CPU PLL at 1.9V.-Clock ratio 20x-Bclk @ 205-SMM 10x-Turbo disabled-C-states enabled-QPI x32-PCI Express: 104-CIA2: disabled-DRAM timing: Auto-LLC: enabled-DRAM voltage 1.64v-HPET enabled 64 bit
I have since pulled the OC back to 3.7 Ghz as I use the machine for gaming and dont see more FPS after this speed.
@DarthCelcius Cont.. I also reccomend using 1600Mhz ram as opposed to 1333Mhz stuff as the OC will be more stable and performance will also be increased as the ram can be overclocked to near its stock 1600Mhz speed using a 10x multiplier without stressing it too much, where as 1333 Mhz ram will have to use a lower multiplier and taking it over its stock speed by too much will result in stress testing failure.
how about overclocking for cpu i5 750 @ 2.67GHz motherboard p55-us3L thanks.

Followed all the overclocking steps again and the beep was back.

I think the voltages are a bit too high, I runned my i5-750@3.8 with 1.28 V stable 24/7
But now i turned on the saving power features that run the sistem a bit unstable, so I lowered to 3.2 ghz with 1.1 V.

13aker0 1 year ago
That ain't right...the i7 8xx series got more memory lanes to it than the i5 7xx series and that gives i7 better throughput. Its not all about clock speed when it comes to modern CPUs.
Blitz4000 1 year ago
Why on earth do you want to overclock an i5? There is an i7 extreme...oh you got no money, sorry! But, its much more fun to overclock the latest and greatest i7 extremes, knowing that you will be the fastest.
Clock for clock, i7 will be faster than i5. The i7 got bigger memory bandwidth. Hence, faster memory communication, better utilization of faster graphics cards or in other terms...no bottlenecks.
Blitz4000 1 year ago
@Blitz4000 just use AMD phenom II X6 more bang for the buck beat that intel fan boys ^^
livai007 1 year ago
@livai007
I'm rich and I don't like cheap AMDs. Besides, AMD only excels in gaming...where is the bang there for my buck?
Blitz4000 1 year ago
@Blitz4000 roflmao amd phenom is 4 times better than a core i5 its even better than some core i7 and you're noob if you buy a core i7 extreme because intel is fucking bad for overclocking and a normal i7 would be as best for games and every day use. besides i bet you're not rich you live with your momma and in the basement you have your computer and thats all what you have. have fun with it XD
livai007 1 year ago
@livai007
Your just saying Intel is bad, Intel is bad and yet you don't say anything to justify your claim. You're an idiot, fool! You know nothing at all because you're stuck with AMD and because you ain't got no money.
Blitz4000 1 year ago
@Blitz4000 hehe now you're going mad let say that intel i7 xtreme costs €1000 and amd phenom X6 1090T costs €300 which you wanna buy ? (i am a informaticus but you're maybe not) amd is maybe not better but its better then the normal i7s and you pay €599 for the best 'normal' i7s and the phenom X6 1090T has a unlocked multi and you're not paying much for that performance. ye you have slitly more power conumption but thats worth it intels are bad overclockers and some are bad gamers amd not
livai007 1 year ago
@livai007
Blitz4000 1 year ago
@livai007 : Where the hell did you get your facts? The Lynnfield series overclock by far the best out of any processor series. Overclocking by 1GHz is easy on an i5. And further more Intel smokes AMD hands down. AMD is only for budget builds. Can you be anymore misinformed?
monkey314159 1 year ago
@livai007 Ah the lie of the decade. Go check tomshardware benchmarking results. The I5 750 beat the 1090t in both processing ability and gaming plus its $50 cheaper. AMD is nice if you don't mind having processors that are technologically a generation behind, lol. Poor AMD fan boys.
Landrar 1 year ago
@Landrar Intel motherboards are more expensive. The price is about even when it comes down to it
NewGameReleases 1 year ago
@NewGameReleases I know this. Point still stands that AMD is not more bang for your buck.
Landrar 1 year ago
@Landrar It depends what processor you choose to buy. With an AMD 955 and an AM3 motherboard, you could be saving about 100 dollars. Many people would argue that AMD processors offer more bang for buck because of this, because in most tests you won't see a 100 dollar difference. I guess it depends on what suits whos needs
NewGameReleases 1 year ago
@NewGameReleases Fair enough, but if that's the performance level that works for you then a c2q with 775 mb is about the same price for the same performance. I think you need to compare apples to apples and doing that with Intel's and AMD's latest chips isn't doing that. AMD has always, minus one short stint with athelon II, been a full generation behind Intel. That's still true and what causes the price difference.
Landrar 1 year ago
@Landrar :) I just looked today and you can get an amd black edition quad core from newegg clocked default at 3ghz for 100 dollars. Both are still good, it just depends on what you want/ your budget

Nice video, this guy know's what he's talking about :p. Although I'd suggest not to use any automatic voltage setting at all since it increases the temperature tremendously. In fact, if you are only on air cooling I wouldn't up the Vcore at all.
dechileen 1 year ago
@dechileen Well im getting a noctua nh-d14(one of the best air coolers) and i want to hit 4ghz wouldn't i have to bump the Vcore up?
Also its for my i7 860 and im using the same board he's using p55-ud4p
DXcellence718 1 year ago
@DXcellence718 There are some exceptions of course, that Noctua cooler is better than most low-end water cooled sets (it’s better than the Tt Bigwater for example). But still; if you’re playing with voltages you have to be very careful; better safe than sorry with expensive hardware.

Ohh 1 more thing, temps at idle are around 24c and around 45c under load @ 3.7Ghz using the Titan fenrir.
DarthCelcius 1 year ago
DarthCelcius 1 year ago
@DarthCelcius Cont.. I also reccomend using 1600Mhz ram as opposed to 1333Mhz stuff as the OC will be more stable and performance will also be increased as the ram can be overclocked to near its stock 1600Mhz speed using a 10x multiplier without stressing it too much, where as 1333 Mhz ram will have to use a lower multiplier and taking it over its stock speed by too much will result in stress testing failure.
Better to underclock ram than overclock it.
DarthCelcius 1 year ago
Intel works on way too many sockets at once. AMD works on one socket at a time, plus it's backwards compatible (AM3=AM2+)
