^ ^ ^ This is why I prefer Zeitgeist. Its spreading same/similar information, same/similar ideas, and basically achieving the same/similar results with people.
Only these guys charge it, and Zeitgeist offers it for free.
Information, Truth and Revolutionary Ideas are not supposed to have a price tag on them. Sorry.
Has everyone forgotten that (at least here in the United States) Government derives its just powers from the consent of the governed? That means that We, The People, are the ultimate authority. We have been brainwashed into believing that we are mere servants to almighty Government. It is Government who serves The People. Without us, they are nothing. Unfortunately there are fewer people educated enough to know this. Read your Constitution! Know your Rights! Speak up or be spoken for.
This is about Voluntaryism. This is the wave of the future. The future where voluntary relationships are the norm and forced rule by governments is a thing of the past.
What you guys describe is a bane of democracy. Whether you have everyone or just a representative group (as it is with current voting turnouts), you really get more or less the same effect. Its call statistical representation and is used for all kinds of decisions.
I guess democracy is really not the solution. Of course neither socialism, communism nor any form of government we have had until now. What is really needed is a new way of organization, wonder what role the internet will have in it.
What democracy are you refering to? If it's the United States, we are (at least on paper) a Constitutional Representitive Republic, not a democracy. A democracy is direct majority rule, mob rule.
Yes, the US is a democracy with "mob rule". It is officially called "Representative Democracy". You need to understand what you are talking about before correcting people with something you read and really didn't understand. (the "We the people" comes from the democratic concept)
I understand quite clear the distinction between what America was founded upon versus what we have become at present. As far as the founding principals go, America is a Constitutional Representitive Republic. In practice, however, we have clearly become a democracy. My point was for Citizens to take a stand against this, to reclaim our place of power, and to restore America to its Republic.
Alexis de Tocqueville is a very good read, it really shows how America was founded and why ....... some how i feel that I should not have to tell you that
imo libertarian socialism aka anarchism is worth a look, its got a terrible stigma associated with its name, its essentially about organically formed networks of cooperation. if you or anybody else wants me to send some good links, pm me, cheers..
Direct democracy worked for ancient Greek states with no technological infrastructure. If you have a high school diploma you should be able to make "some" decisions when it comes to direct democracy.
@cletortain - I'm a self employed visual artist and can't wait for decisions regarding public art implementation to be open-sourced to the community. I imagine there are people with other specific skill-sets that would love direct government involvement regarding their specific area of expertise as well. Bring it on!
I wouldn't want every uninformed member of the public deciding everything. Im happier deferring to elected experts on most issues - particularly those on which I have little info or education (economic policy, nuclear science etc.) I wouldnt want policy written by everyone like a wiki page - even the political wikis always come with warnings of how unbalanced they may be, god knows what itd be like if they were acted upon. In short I think direct democracy would be a nightmarish mob rule!
i completely agree with you, many people really doesnt understand the impact of having direct democracy, ask those people who wants direct democracy if giving doctors a vote on who should they treat and accept as patient, i bet you those same people will be outraged. its nice to know that there are people like you who have a sound mind.
If you want to see direct democracy at work. Just look at California. That state is on the brink of being the first state to fail. You leave it in the hands of regular idiots. The only thing they will agree on is they want everything. But don't want to pay for it.
if you read in US history the founding fathers did speak against the "mob rule" ............ if only we keep those truths USA would not be in the sorry state it is in now
Lol! I was really thinking about Meritocracy. Its failed in the past only because eventually, brain dead power gamers get into play and begin corrupting the system. Interestingly enough, the system provides the best results while it lasts for the societies and countries right before crumbling down by an opportunist or two (well, more like a bunch).
Related to me own comment below... US had a huge Meritocrat in Hamilton and it was a lot of his work that laid the foundation for what America became. It is lost now thanks to the likes of Bush. And yeah, "mob rule" is not a good idea, but that is pretty much what most democratic countries have... that is why we have the corrupted, broken and sad society we live in where money talks and everything else walks.
Theres mob rule as in 'democracy' and mob rule as in 'direct democracy' though. At least in the UK we have elected experts in the form of the cabinet and its advisors, but this video implies every decision would be made by everyone... the few experts would have as much less say than the uniformed majority.
So I disagree - the contents of the above video is not what most democratic countries have. Nor should they.
The information is wonderful.....it would have even more impact if there were some 'other' folks delivering the message. Think non-white. Think female.

any validity in the concept of 'the mob' is certainly due to gov't "education" programs, ie deskilling, processed food pushing, etc etc
in reality the spoke of many diverse possibilities, many of which bear little resemblance to what we have now
