  • It sounds great! Super powerful Low B!

  • stop talking and play !!

  • Less jibber jabbering and more playing you make drying paint seem more interesting.

  • god you fucking love talking to hear your self talk.

  • Seria bueno escuchar con alguien que sepa tocar

  • This guy does shut the fuck up until about 3:28 of this video. Like holy fuck pal, just play the god damned instrument then talk.

  • Балабол. =)

  • the sound made cream in my pants, that is, of course, once he started playing

  • I had never heard of PJB stuff before until I tested a PJB briefcase - I have to say that is the best sounding combo I have ever heard .. and the suitcase seems to follow in kind.

Seriously, I have no idea why phil jones amps are not used by more people, they sound awesome..

(and no, I don't get sponsored by them.. although: if you are reading this, phil... :)

  • Tried to listen to the amp, but all the talking got in the way and I surfed away before a single fracking note was heard. Nice one ovrdrvn.

  • You're not the same dude selling the 88 Sadowsky on eBay are you?

  • JEEZus christ mate....CUT TO THE CHASE and PLAY instead of TALK TALK TALKING......Americans REALLY DO talk too much.

If we all just cut to 3:27 you can finally hear him play.

    Great sounding amp though.

And, as far as GUITAR CENTER is concerned, DO NOT BUY ANY of those guitar cords that are strung around a pole near the cash register. They look alright but they're cheapos that go for $14.95 and they break all the fucking time.

  • Big deal

  • americans love to talk ,talks more than playing

  • I'm an Amurican. Shut up. this is Amurica

  • I don't know why, but I can't look at Music Man basses without thinking about a toilet seat

  • I can relate

  • only the bongo though. The sterling and stingray just look like God fucking eighteen turkish midgets

  • @EgadOmg heheheheh! thats right bro!!!,..

  • 5 stars only for the bass, which I have... ;)

  • This is the same kind of sales man that plays what he wants to play on a guitar when you ask to demo an amp. He will never hand the guitar to you so you can try the amp out.

    I hate those fuckers.

  • I guess I'm a lucky guy...I've never had to deal with someone like that. Maybe it's because when I'm in the zone with my bass in my hands I ignore everything else around me...so maybe I just kind of ignore those people.

  • You missed my point. The salesguy never hands the axe over because he is too involved with his demonstration. I don't care how involved you are in your head but it isn't with the axe because he is holding it.

It doesn't happen often but you get the guys that have been salesmen for all their lives and are still stuck in the demo mode. I like GC for the fact you can play any of their stock without some salesman needlessly harassing you.

  • @alwaysopen

    Amen!

  • stop talking and test it finaly!!!!!

  • i like this he is giving a review not trying to sell the amp

  • what a nob!

  • SUT UP idiot!! Go play some more skin flute, trouser trumpet, pants piccolo....

  • god damn... he speaks too much!!!

  • Your so full of yourself bet you clear a crowd in a matter of seconds, TALK TALK TALK TALK BLAH BLAH BLAH, dude, are u that hung up on your own voice?

  • Damn, I don't have all day i couldn't even make it to the play test, your mouth NEEDS TO SHUT UP!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Good idea with the DI/Amp on different channel except...it doesn't work on youtube. Youtube encode audio as 22050Hz 63 kb/s MONO signal. So both channels gets summed to mono, not a great thing to get a sense of the sound IMO.

  • do you think with the new extension cabs this rig would do most gigs.

  • not as low as id like

  • I think you should talk more and play less.

  • i'm a big phil jones bass fan...just not his cabs, he makes probably the greatest tube bass amp on the planet. 600 watts, 130 lbs, built like an armored truck ...problem though, you'd have to rob that truck cause it costs $10,000. ampeg cabs extra!!

  • brilliant that's exactly the bass I'm after and the amp the sound is superb nice video :)

    thank you so much :D

  • talks too much. Play it dude...

  • i have to say i tried one of these wen helping my bro choose a new abss and it soudned great and it was on a flat eq too

  • Like he said: it's going to sound like him cause he's playig it...

Whether you drive his signal thru the most expensive Aguilar amp or a toaster, it still sounds erhm... ah well, nevermind.

  • this amp sounds so nice buy its not worth the 1,200 bucks it cost in my opinion

  • the amp sounded best when he was playing chords and slapping... lol the low b sounded funny

  • he should play first...then talk , If anyone stays around to hear it...these things sound flippin horrible.

    Maybe if you have a 1 string bass..and 1 string is a G.

sounds like ass on low frequencies.

  • nice groove man

  • This bass amp sound too bad. too many small speakers in small cabinet is wrong concept definitly.

  • wrong concept huh?

go be stupid somewhere else please.

  • well said, personally i think this amp sounds wonderful. And im a guitarist lol.

  • erasr is right. Jones knows his engineering. There are (4) 5" drivers, now I'm no physics whiz, but I know sound is about the amount of air and vibrations produced. Arguably, this would be the same as having (2) 10" speakers. The only difference is that it might not have as low of a frequency response. But on the other hand having smaller drivers means more visceral sound because you don't have a huge speaker flopping around, giving faster response for quick runs(jazz).

  • as I said to some guy on the video where he talks more.

There is the same amount of surface area in 4 5" speakers as 1 10".

So having 2 10" drives would be double the surface area

  • duh, my bad

  • He's a guy who owns a music shop explaining the features on an amplifier, there's meant to be a fair bit of talking too. If you wanna hear someone mess about on bass for a solid 8 minutes then go watch a video that isn't a PLAY TEST.

  • Nice test. And nice playing.

And for the impatient: the playing starts at 3:26

  • dude youtube is compresses the audio to mono -.-

  • Great Job, i learned a bit.

Id say compress the speech a bit...

  • i though it sounded awesome

  • this dudes an amazing bassist, awesome teacher. can u do another genz benz neo pak video

  • Everyone shut the hell up and listen - this guy preps everyone with some very great advice... He'll tell you exactly how his bass/amp/playing approach is organized... Great player and great teacher... then he plays for you... trust me I know this dude and he tours the world with the upper crust. Very supportive player -

  • you need to calm down sir.

  • i was excited about the PJB amps, but strictly from this video, (and it could very easily be the bass or the mic) that amp has some terrible tone. (just way too much treble from 5" speakers, with some definite influence from new strings on a bongo)

  • do try listening to the clip with headphones on. as for the "too much treble".... the high end that comes off of Phil's speakers is considerably less harsh and abrasive than a typical bass cab with a horn in it. Ultimately, try to get to a store and check one out, they do have the sweetest top end of any cab, very natural and like I said, non-abrasive.

Thanks for watching and commenting though.

    cheers!

    pd

  • @connormcmeanman sounds fine to me.

  • jesus does this fella shut up?

  • only if you kiss his ass real nice

  • the talking got anoying

  • thanks a lot man, i wondered how these beasts sounded!

  • omfg! stop talking and play!

  • i know. Hes talked way to much

  • Pete! You sound great man! I just tried the Bass Buddy basically as a pre-amp for my EUB. Plugged into the Bass Buddy and sent the signal straight into my SVT - crazy tone and punch - great bottom end...

    Rich from NWS

  • you talk way too much

  • cool

  • i advice not to talk that long before playing bro. no offence ok.. but thanks for the info bro..

  • duly noted.

thanks for watching, and yes, your opinion is quite welcome and appreciated ;)

    cheers!

  • at the time of filming, I had a set of Slinnky 5s on.

I've got some D'Adarrio Half-Rounds on it now though.

  • what strings are on that bongo?

  • sounds beautiful

  • Thats nuts im from calgary as well, from what i can tell the store you're in looks alot like the wall of MCC on 37th, and have you tried the yamaha BBT?

  • Dude, 3:30 before you played anything ...

  • that's why the entire running time is over 7min.

  • Will see what I can do!

    thanks for watching.

  • could you test some Warwick amps, i can't find any in America and i want to know what they sound like.
