  • Danger Close!!!!

  • 1st Regiment, Royal Canadian Horse Artillery firing the M777 (Desert Dragon)FOB Martello was under rocket attack and responded accordingly

  • Where's the higher quality version of this video? This is terrible, audio and video

  • HEADS UP "CS" user "Black5Cloud" has ripped this vid off a re-posted giving you no credit all the while. I hate A holes like that! great vid BTW

  • The battery must be fairly close. Good God almighty I would not want to be on the receiving end of that. That made me nervous listening to it with the speakers turned up. What a demoralizing effect that must have.

  • Fucking awesome!! Hope the 72 virgins were 7ft tall gay black men. He he

  • I would shit myself if I hear that WOOOOOZH!!!!!! comming in on my position.

  • Well....that was a wasted million dollars of US taxpayer money! Nice shooting guys! They weren't even there you dumb focks!

  • @thegoosebrain - who gives a shit!!

  • damn thats accurate

  • I used to be an FO, and that doesn't look so "well placed" to me. The counterbattery fire is not only late, it's sparse and too low and to the right. I don't think any round came as close as 100-meters to the rocket position.

Come to think of it, this is a Hadji video, which may have been produced as propaganda to show how ineffectual coalition artillery is.

  • its fucked cause you never know where the next one is gonna hit

  • ahahaha.. the rocket veicle: flap flap flap.. then came the big shells.. waaaaaaBOOOM

  • Why is it that every video that has anything remotely to do with the war in the middle east becomes a MASSIVE argument???

  • @oorah101 - Plenty of shit to argue about. Islam/Christianity, Blood for oil, Saddam/911, Afghan pipelines, list goes on

  • @proaudiohd I know, but it seems that if I went somewhere and said "Iraq" that everyone within a ten mile radius would be at eachother's throats. I mean, wtf people? There have been many bigger controversies than this. For example, take politicians: they either cant keep their pants on, their hands out of the treasury, or their ass out of the way

  • Scary to watch...

  • Now you know what death sounds like. GET SOME!!!

  • @ARBuilder1776

We did get some, so far many of causalties from our Jihad in Iraq comes from these successful attacks.

  • @Cosmicalstorm Yeah I know so now we have a stead stream of real terrorists who want to kill Americans. Isn't war great?

  • @Cosmicalstorm And how many assholes have died from the Coallition? Alot. sounds like the odds are in our favor, you Islamo-Faciest.

  • @Cosmicalstorm successful.. i've seen this attacks and they dont make me scared, they make me wonder how much longer i have to sit in a bunker until your inaccurate caveman style rocket attack is complete.

  • Dam, that shit was SPOT ON on the first arti.

  • I'd be more scared at 3:24 if that singing shit just started if i was there...

  • @Gondorcon LMFAO :D

  • well for the sci fi guys talking about the sound and boom... in terms of mortars you can here the out going the incoming sound then you hear the boom on impact.... kinda a early warning system if ya will i spent 3 tours in Iraq marines..... imagine a big ass rock hauling ass through the air thats what mortars sound like. then again mortars have more of a lob effect artillery is more on the dime..... you hear the boom you ask your buddys wtf was that was that out going and then bam your dead arty

  • haha pissed my pants at the end when the dude starts singin :D

  • @kenkohater lmfao same here

  • hollywood movies should take of this video

  • damn thats pretty accurate right from the first shot

  • woah the sound of the incoming arti

    thats fucking awesome

  • Is this mortar or cannon fire? I know the amount of time sound of the shell in the air is much shorter from mortar fire cause of the distance, I read it in "all quiet on the western front. why does some incoming artillery sound (I ve seen footage) have a very high pitch and some have a very low pitch, is it the angle of trajectory or the size of the shell, or the speed?

  • @crimbo913 It's a little of both, but mainly speed. When something is coming at you very fast (like a sportscar), it has a high pitch because the soundwaves are being compressed in front of it, and the pitch is louder after it passes you because the opposite is happening and the waves are being stretched. It's called the Doppler Effect.

  • @crimbo913 It's probably in relation to how directly the shell is landing on your position. If it missed you by a significant margin, the pitch isn't as high as if it were more accurate. It's been said that you would barely hear the shell that found you.

  • crap music.

  • FIUUUUUUUUUU BOOOOM , fucking awesome

  • yea i know the U.S artillery is returning fire,,

  • there is no camera man there he left standing his camera and he run away

  • @fods202 No kidding, they were returning fire with artillery.

  • @fods202

I gather it's agreed that this clip was filmed by a camera left by the jihadis. The rockets were triggered remotely. Nevertheless, it is interesting to hear what 155mm return fire sounds like.

  • why...did this get flagged?

  • Speed of the shell in the air = 500m/s +

Speed of Sound in the Air = 343m/s

Speed of Sound travelling through solid (Ground) 5,120 m/s in ferrous material

Probably 1500~2000 m/s on the sandy ground like this one.

This is why we hear the thud of the gunfire first, since the shockwave travels thru the ground.

The shell, altho slowed down by the time it arrives on its target, is still travelling at speeds faster than the sound in the air, but you can nevertheless hear it thru doppler effect

  • @calgaryfox I disagree. Although the shell initially travels at ~500 m/s, it drops to subsonic pretty fast, probably (WAG) within the first 3 km of flight. The thud you hear before it arrives would actually be the shockwave while it was still traveling supersonically, followed by the whistling of slowly lowering frequency as it further drops down in speed, subsonically. Only after it gets really close to you, especially if it overflew you would you hear the doppler effect and rapid pitch drop.

  • @calgaryfox There is just no physically possible way you'd hear the shell coming in before it hit *if* it was really flying faster than sound at that point in flight. Even if it just flew over your head and went further downrange, you'd hear just the sonic boom like with supersonic aircraft, no whistling.

Now, if you were closer in to the gun so the shell hits you while still supersonic, you'd hear no warning, not even that distant thud before the whistle.

  • @ugowar actually, you would. Because whatever the speed of anything below the speed of light is, it's still travelling in a medium, which is air.

The pilot of a jet travelling at mach 1.5 still hears his guns or missiles fire.

By the same logic, the sound produced in the compressed medium (air) in front of the shell travels at the same speed, yet since the medium is compressed and shortened, it reaches you much sooner than the sound behind the shell where the medium is expanded due to SB.

  • @calgaryfox You're forgetting one thing though: the shell in this case is coming *toward you*, you're not a fighter pilot listening to gunfire from the ground etc. Lookup "sound barrier" on wikipedia, there's an image at the right. Now imagine you're to the right of that supersonic shell. It's obvious you cannot hear the shell before it reaches you. Light speed has nothing to do with this, we're talking about *sound* propagation.

  • @calgaryfox If the sound of an object traveling through the air and coming toward you reaches you *before* the actual object, then by definition it is *not* faster than the speed of sound.

  • @ugowar What you are saying is of course correct, and it's unlikely that anyone will hear a flying bullet incoming towards him. What I'd like to stress though is that when something breaks a sound barrier, it creates a bubble pocket of air around it, thus you can "hear" what happens inside it. Like, if you can throw a ball at 80kmh, it will be 160kmh if you threw it from a bus moving at 80kmh, although you threw it at 80kmh. So if the sound travels at 343ms yet that speed BEGINS from mach 2,

  • @calgaryfox I'm sorry, but you're wrong about the ball analogy. The speed of sound is a physical limitation on the medium, which is *static*, it's not moving with respect to you (as your bus analogy), apart from small wind movement.

  • Comment removed

  • @ugowar Sound is just movement of air or medium. What you are saying actually is the most feasible, in fact, I totally agree with ya on the drop of speed on the shell as soon as it leaves the barrel, but that does not mean supersonic flight automatically cancels out sound. If a sound travelling at 343m/s thru | | | | | air reaches its target in 1 second (normal). Then the sound travelling at the same speed thru ||||||||||| reaches its target sooner than the last.

  • They still got their arse kicked

  • Hoooorrrrraaaaahhhh!

  • @Madapaka73 Its ooraahh you dumb shit.

  • @Archerpyro LOL Happy New Year dickhead......

  • Awesome

  • >>>>the first sounds you hear are insurgents firing rockets. then retaliating with howitzer heavy artillery (the sound you hear before inpact is the howitzer firing). its obviously direct fire arty cause the rounds take but a second to hit. if you ask me the insurgents did this and set up a camera so that they could measure how long it takes for a follow up arty barrage. :P

  • that's exactly what it was for. They're smarter than most of our public thinks. I know a common TTP (Training Tactics and Procedure) they use is setting up Dud IED's and then they observe our EOD response

  • I love how you can hear the gun shoot. that lil "boom" in the distance.

  • 1:33 WAKE UP

    coolest sound on youtube

  • Those are rockets firing at first. Then whoever the guy that said the arty is close, is wrong that could be 10 km for all we know. High velocity rounds? WTF there's no such thing, they all go fast. They are high explosive, looks like 155 mm, they found the position more than likely by HALO or LCMR or some sort of counterbattery radar. Why the delay? Adjustment is all. Just gotta make sure rounds are on tgt.

  • kellklark12 you are a IDIOT

  • WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

  • i wish it was world war 2 style arty

    BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM

    lol no pauses

  • I don't know what's going on here.

The incoming in the first of the video seems to be mortar. The second phase is high velocity artillery fired from a short distance away, and passing overhead from rear to front. The subdued "boom" you hear before each high velocity shell passing overhead is the tube firing the round. There's only two second from boom to bang... the artillery piece is about 1.5 miles distant.

All rounds seem to be targeted on the same ridge. Duh?!?

  • Scary

  • wow that is scary... i wouldnt like to be in that place!

  • and oo o ya 1:30 , and on.. the incoming artillery... fuck... sounds awsome!

almost like the real thing... to bad the cams mic isint that good....

  • i love this video

  • If you guys hear the dull drum thud that's the artillery firing.

  • I would be scared if i was in the reciving end of this!

  • great thing is all them terrorists the only virgins their getting are 72 dumb fucks like them

  • Bit of a correction for you Modusoperandicod4, the terrorists are actually getting 72 Catholic nuns.

  • you know what else is funny... they don't tell them whether they're female or male virgins

  • that's really scaary i think

  • I was a artilleryman in the first gulf war. It is very hard work.

  • 155mm howitzer

  • Hopefully this raghead camera man and his pals are enjoying their 72 virgins.

  • Obviously this is not a real camera man. They just setup the camera on a tripod to get intel on how long it takes to respond to rocket fire.

  • Yea, i am aware he just set the camera on the ground after firing mortars. I'm just saying it wouldn't be all too bad if they got fucking whipped the next time they tried firing mortars from their local mosque or schoolhouse.

  • no, its the insurgents making a propaganda film. Hence the ISI emblem in the upper left

  • well their propaganda film set is taking fire..

  • get out of there

  • Gotta love that "screaming" sound of incoming art shells. ;D

  • either way it sounds cool

  • Lulz, I'm just trolling, sorry, the "screaming" sound is real, but it's produced by mortars not artillery...

  • NP, lulz all around ;D

  • So you're saying mortars are small arms, not artillery?

  • Wrooooooooong...But ok. Morters AND Artillery do it. its not based on anything specific. A whiffle Ball makes that sound. A bat. Its the air / heat that causes the air to displace that zooms back , creating that sound. Thats the simple version. Its not post production, it makes that sound. If you don't believe it, join the military, go stand between the guns and the target, and hear the whistle. Its more high pitched and more of a whistle than that. Its the camera mic that fucks it up.

  • This is what our brave men and women actually go through in Iraq. This is not fake.

  • actually the heavy artillery is what the insurgent goes through...

the Americans goes true smaller mortars from them....

  • Not if its incoming at your position

  • obviously but it still sounds cool

  • wow that is really fucking cool

    and scary

  • i bet the camera man was shitting in his pants at 1:57 and 2:42.

  • the camera man clearly wasn't there

  • no shit

  • @Ugedey80 Save your smart alec attitude for your 4th grade classroom and for somebody who won't respond.

  • Thats an m777 155mm howitzer probably fired from a us base some 3-4 km away.

Muzzle velocity ~827m/s, ~3-4secs of air time accounting for sound speed. Actual range of gun is 25 miles but its rarely used at that range since its accuracy is unpredictable fram that far.

  • Well actually good sir. Muzzle velocity is dependant on the type of powder and how many charges they put in. Also what the weight of the round is. Standard round is a smidge under 100lbs, average muzzle velocity is 627m/s. More than likely the battery is station 7-9km out, as the rounds appear to be coming in at a high angle(not an actual high angle shot). Meaning the round will spend more time in the air than a direct show, allowing for more time for sound to catch up.

  • But lets also add the fact that you have NO idea what type gun is shooting. It could be a paladin, m198, or m777. M198's are still used and have pretty much the same distance. And the maximum range is actually still accurate, but mostly used for planned fire suppression missions. Military uses a degree system call Mils, 6400 mils to a circle. When doing calculations 1 mil off the actual target, at 1000m, is 1m on the deck. So if you fire 40km out, and are 1 mil off, you're 25 meters off.

  • And, at least in the marines, the calculations and tools used is very accurate. Now add the fact that a 155 regular HE round, with a time fuse set for 20m above the deck, you have a 50mKILL radius. Add in all the other destuctive goodness after that. RAP(rocket assisted projectile) rounds are used quite often and were used OIF 1 a lot. I can read wikipedia too, but its not good to sound liek you are omnipotent when those in know are around. Oh and average flight time for a round is 13 seconds.

  • You nailed that loudmouth goooood!

  • thanks for your knowledgeable answer

  • Yeah Artillery kickd ass again.

  • One of the coolest videos I have ever seen. I didnt know that artillary screamed as it rained down!

  • Pretty sure its 155MM artillery, and not mortars. The rounds are coming in at high velocity due to the sound.

  • what is is with people saying fake all the time are you fuking stupid..

  • they are called trolls don't feed them

  • Comment removed

  • Nice :)

  • That might be 105mm HESH rds fired from a tank

If this was filmed in the panjwai District

  • More like mortar fire.

  • Looks like some insurgents were filming themselves launching probably Katyusha rockets and wound up filming their own selves getting wasted.

  • they need more firepower, platoon of howitzers shoud make it

  • I love my job, and its a battery of howitzers not a platoon

  • They aren't hitting anything..

  • WTF r u talking about those rounds are landing on were the rockets were being fired from

  • Would I be wrong if I guessed the first *pop* is the round slowing from super sonic to transonic, after which you can hear them closing in?

  • yes you would... what your hearing is the round being fired, then the whistling of it coming in, then the explosion.

  • So you're saying it takes the shell 2 seconds to reach the target, without ever going supersonic? =D

  • no actually, the round is traveling so fast that the sound of the gun firing it barely beats it to the target

  • I would guess the initial report is the gun firing. After all, the sound waves travel in a straight line. The projectile, of course, travels in a parabola.

  • Well, that makes the most sense so far... =)

  • regardless of the size... this is why you dont want redlegs to do what we do best. things get erased when were called out.

  • When that crazy song begins after 3:25, that's when the camera man can't hold anymore and starts shitting himself!

  • the sound of the shell in flight is amazing, wooooshh ..... thud.

  • that looks like arty, but not the big stuff

  • Yeah, I am a 155mm gunner and it`s definitely not that. Probably 80mm mortars as many have comented.

  • that is 155mm.. being on the gun line you wouldn't see the impact very well.. its a very short TOF though

  • Really? I could be wrong but I would be 80% sure it wasn`t. It`s mainly because of the missing tearing of air sound before impact.

As I said I might be in the wrong here but I have seen shells hits when we direct fire across the mountainsides.

  • Thats not incoming artillery, especially not 105's. Probably motars....

  • 1:30!!! wooohooo!

  • those are mortars not artillery.. looked like a 60mm and judging. It was probably about a click or two away judging by the time between exit and impact and considering the speed of sound.

  • the first volley is mortar, the second wave is def 105mm

  • Dude...whatever man, judging by speed, its artillery. FACT. M119's. I am a 13B in the 82nd and mortars don't fly that fast. They go up and then curve in before impact. Study crater analysis.

  • whatever im drunk

  • LOL

  • i want two actually!! FUCKING 30!!!!!!

  • that looks pretty deadly accurate. keep hittin' the same spots. i want one

  • Any idea how many guns were involved in this barrage?

  • it sounds like only one because of the time between shots fired.

  • man that is crazy! once i heard that big boom from that far off i would have ran like never before.

  • what's the point of the discussion, if neither of you will ever change your opinion?

  • I don't really think there is a point to the argument anymore... it isn't really an argument. Dragon22873 just keeps saying everyone is wrong and that he is the smartest kid in the world. He knows all about how wars are fought and thinks it would be great if 9/11 happened to the US again.... He doesn't really have any idea how the real world works and doesn't understand he and his country probably owe their existence to the Americans.

  • yeah, a real YouTube commando :P or just a fat troll... stop feeding him already

  • Touche'

  • u can hear the cannon fire for the last round.

  • yeah, a usual counter battery fire mission would be between 4 and 10 shells. you noticed how it cut out for a second during the return fire? it was prolly two different occasions when the US guns were shooting back.

  • Holy crap your from Japan aren't you!!! I should have known! Oh man.... You are the perfect example of what I was just talking about!!!! this is awesome! We almost wiped you off the face of the planet and only stopped because your emperor finally gave up and made his voice heard over the radio to end your extinction... then we made you capitalist and free and look at you now! Japan is awesome.... are you retarded or something?

  • We as in the collective United States Army.... Go watch some cartoons, child, it's pretty apparent that you don't fully grasp the concepts here. This is a discussion that should be between adults not one adult and a little snot-nosed pokemon playing kid who has no real understanding of how modern weaponry and military thinking works... So why don't you go back to drooling over your little Japanese schoolgirl outfits and crap.

  • Oh wow, that one really hurt, not. You sure dont act like an adult. Especially when you're MEANT to be in the ARMY! What mature adult in his right mind tries to make himself and other's think, that he and his country is superior to everyone else? But, oh well. im not the one losing to a 3rd world country in a 7 year long war. You say 'child' to make yourself look though, hard, and try to be dominant? It just makes you as low as every other brainwashed americunt on youtube. Kudos.

  • dude, you are a fucking fag. What grown man wouldn't think or at least hope that his military was the best in the world... I guess little fags like you don't understand patriotism or nationalism... go jerk off to some little boys wearing naruto underwear you fucking little homo.... It isn't even debatable that the Americans have the most lethal military in the history of the world, why are you even arguing that? I guess it is just a poor attempt to get some attention...

  • nice.

  • So, does this fictional third world country that has been beating the US for the last seven years have a name? Last I checked we weren't fighting any third world countries.... or any countries for that matter, much less loosing to one.

  • So a dumb fuck like you hasn't heard of iraq? Whats next, Iran? Hmm?

  • Okay, so you really are a moron... The US hasn't been fighting Iraq since May 1st, 2003.... And since being given back their sovereignty on June 29th, 2004 they have been a US ally.... Get your facts straight.

  • you are the nr.1stupid on youtube,no in the whole planet, all planets, you must be the next president of the usa,are you a monky or a donky, and you want others to learn from you, hell NO

  • lolz.

  • You probably aren't from Japan. You're probably some 40 year old social failure that lives in his mom's basement in Canada... I bet you wear power rangers undies too don't you? It's ok... we won't judge you. It's just pretty obvious to the rest of us that you have no grasp of reality in any way shape or form.

  • I feel bad for you. Sinking yourself to his level and getting involved with something that isnt you're business? But then, thats why america has such a failed reputation. You get involved in outher peoples business, but, oh well, i couldnt give 2 shits. Ill just be laughing when 9/11 happens all over again.

  • This argument is over and has been from the start... marcuscorder is very very right.... and Dragon22873 is a fucking moron...... or at the very least extremely delusional. He's just jealous that he isn't an american and can't be part of something truly bigger than himself... any replies to the contrary would just show how desperate he is to get that attention he so craves. The little fag is gonna read this and then cry himself to sleep tonight... it must suck to be a little pussy like him.

  • Jealouse that i arent american?! BAHA stop talking shit, if there was any country in the world i could be from, America would be BOTTOM of the list. Keep dreaming pal, not everyone in the world sucks up to you. Dumbass.

  • any replies to the contrary would just show how desperate he is to get that attention he so craves". So you're just trying to do a hit and run argument and not expect a reply? How pathetic are you really? Very.

  • if that a mortar, you can hear its hissing sound that shell made before impact, and the hissing sound quite long compare to artillery shell. i've been in this situation before, but the enemy -the american- miss badly. and my squad survived and continue to shell the american bases.

  • i though you american infidels are high tech in this shit...i seems you are low tech as the african rebels as well...hahaha

  • muslim is a pig who kiss pakistani muslim terrorist ass!you shit gago ka

  • This from a guy that most likely uses a VHS/beta lol tech

  • You know what's really funny? The fact that our artillery was only firing single shells at you terrorist jackasses... It shows that we don't even deem you worthy of a barrage on the scale the our resources allow. You think we are low tech? We just don't need to use our real strength to kill you... we have the power to annihilate countries and continents.

  • That's a bit too big headed.. you are strong yes, but you arent going to annihalate them.

  • We certainly could...

  • If you could you'd of done it by now.

  • Naw.... the Iraqi government wants limited casualties and we don't use 'body-count' tactics like we would If we fought a real threat to our forces like the PLA, EU, or RD then we'd fire for effect with full batteries and regimental gun sections. That field you saw and everything around it for several kilometers in ever direction would look like the fucking moon.
