This aircraft was dropped for a simple reason. On either side of the airframe, aft of the canopy, there are two threaded bores that eyebolts can be screwed into. This is the normal lifting point of the aircraft. Unfortunately, the additional weight of the two steel tubes running into the engine compartment exceeded the designated maximum lifting weight of those points, and the eyebolts tore the threads out.
currently at the entrance to the base there is a CF-5a on display, also a canadian forces t-bird in green and grey camoflague also a gazebo and this was supposed to be the third jet on display a CF-18 Hornet, and downtown by the courthouse is a CF-104 starfighter and an AETE tutor aircraft.and i am 100% sure
For all of you who are wondering.... the jet 702 is not on display anywhere... i know ive seen it next too a hangar... Looks like its been rob to death lol
really? i was fairly sure that the third one was not the one that crashed, but was the one that they messed up on the support beams for, and built a gazzebo instead for the engineers... i could be mistaken, third plane is not up yet though, plans are for it to go up in the summer before the air show... this one definatly looks like the one out there already though... never know, i could be wrong.
I can't be 100% sure, but I do recall there were three pedestals. I think the idea was to have two CF-5's and an CF-18 airframe up. I do recall the gazebo. It's been up for some time now.
I am not sure. It would have to be an outfit from either Edmonton, Fort McMurray or Lloydminster as I believe those are the closest places that would have cranes available.
Either that or the base rented the cranes and let the engineers do all the rigging. *Shudder*
I got the name on that crane. It was a little faded but it said Lazy Arse Union Coffee Break Company. Funny cause there were two fat belly's, four big arse's, and every shovel in the truck was a leaning post. The only heavy weight in that line up was Mr Pink Slip. Say Hello to reality.
That sounds like every crane company I have ever worked with. I design and supervise bridge installations, so you know I've been around a crane or two in my day...
epic failure

No, the cranes were adequate. The lifting points on the airframe couldn't handle the weight of the two steel pedestal tubes.

@Dodgedeora so what you're trying to say is that the cranes could not stand the weight?

Let this be a lesson to the Fiberals who want to review the F-35 Purchase.
Contracting to the lowest bidder is not always in your best interests.

You can squeeze all the tech in to a super jet plane.. but the crane still has the same problems as any other thing. GRAVITY

cool thanks for the info man,

they did not properly inspect that gear, also looks like the rigging was a little messed up causing stress and a chain snap... :)
For the Record, the plane is now up on display, two by city hall and the courthouse and the two out by the base. :)

Yeah this Christmas it wasn't up. When did they erect it? This was supposed to be a third jet outside the base...
