  • YOU'RE SHAYINNNG IT WROUNG!! IT'S OH-EE-SHEEEEE, NAWT OH-EEEEE-SHE

(well done. see here, everyone! Mrs. Granger's done it!)

  • I give my cat a little bit of tuna every night so she'll come in before the foxes come out. My mom's boyfriend bought her some bonito flakes..... Oh my god, she snubs tuna for the stuff. It's cat heaven...

  • too bad there is radiation in the Pacific Ocean in Japan

  • Who knew alton brown was such a weeaboo?

  • If I had a Japanese restaurant, I would love to call it the 'Pick and Chew' :P

  • they bombed us..

    but we bombed them...

and they bombed us AGAIN.. with some awesome food :3

  • 2:20 what are those called? They look good.

  • Can't you just use medium tofu instead of squeezing silken tofu?

  • 1:32 This is Turning Japanese and yet they use a Korean product?

  • Alton Brown is an Otaku WOOOOT

  • I feed those little fishes to my ktties

  • This may be the only time a i don't agree with AB.......

  • You know, you can't really yell at the guy about Japanese pronunciation because he's not Japanese. You pocky munching anime otaku need to really simmer down.

  • "Close pantry!!!"

  • XD i LOVE how excited he gets about the mini fried fish

  • Alton is looking too thin these days. I am worried about the guy. Needs a pizza!

  • @ashlayblues i know what you mean over it its good eats i love how he was basing it on the old snl skit and such and yet people start getting offended over things in to good eats they dont get it its COMEDY and as some of my friends say 'its not funny when some one gets offended, its hilarious they are over a stupid thing' i think that is what i am saying you know

  • I ove how ecited he got with the fried fishes.

  • I'm pretty sure that the ramen on top shelf to his left is actually Korean.

  • if he really is a japanese food otaku, he should do more japanese food episodes.

  • hahaha, love his little kid squee attack at 2:20!

  • Its sad that he wasn't instructed on the correct pronunciation of the words he was saying so he didn't kill the Japanese language.

  • I guess there are no Japanese people where Alton Brown films.

  • YAY! My Idol is an OTAKU!!! ^w^

  • @cheeseisreallyhot not as much as your mother :P

  • the reason the "japanese" shopkeeper sound so fake is because its a parody of Jim Belushi's Samurai skits when he was on SNL just search hulu or youtube for "Samurai Delicatessen"

  • @Ubertitanblade

    当たり前だし

  • Okay, I'm curious. What are those little fried fishies called?

  • Must have a lot of shoplifters here.

God I love you Mr Brown.

  • Yeah, just try going back into THAT store, Alton. Lol.

  • :(

    Haiku!!!

  • @SailorPerson i think you need to grow up.

  • I agree, his arms are grossly skinny.

  • Alton looks tired and depleted, I think he needs to put on 10 ibs, then he would look a bit healthier. I mean, look at his neck! Still love him though :P

  • he went on a diet

  • just how big is his pantry?

  • I'm kind of insulted with this episode and I'm not even Japanese. I'm Korean and I saw a couple Korean products in his Japanese stash.

-__- but it's nice to know i'm not the only one irked by anime otaku who must make their obsession clear and known in ever possible way.

Does it bother anyone to hear really bad accents for Asian languages. It just sounds like they put too much emphasis in ALL the syllables or something.

  • To be fair.. if you heard his british or scottish accents.. he's not doing them any justice either. Southern's about all his little throat can take him

  • @saintxio Well, he is an Atlanta native... :P

  • @Crimsanity Just because something is a product from a different country doesn't mean that the product originated from there. He probably had difficulty finding some of the stuff. I'm German and I am studying in America. I'm not offended if I go to Walmart and see them selling Bratwurst or Sour Kraut, claiming it's "From Germany". Food is food.

  • wow alton is looking really old and looks skinnier.

  • actually bonito is spanish, in japan it's known as katsuo

  • I think that's the joke that the guy keeps correcting him to not say the japanese word.

  • Hon-dashi is the best way to make Dashi. It is the most time & cost efficient that has best taste. I use Hon-dashi everytime when making Miso soup.

  • 2:18. Awesome

  • great episode!!

  • Where's the Second Half of this Episode???

you labeled Season 13 ep 12 P1 TWICE with the Proof is in the pudding.

  • I've eaten those little fried fish things. They are strange indeed.

  • when he says "seek it out you must"

he sounds like master yoda from star wars

  • That was the intention Einstein.

  • Whats everybodys fav episode of good eats? Mine is behind the bird.

  • Toss up between apple of my Pie, and the christmas cookie one for me

  • @schoolgurl21

I have to pick just one?

  • @Hadra568 ok top three

  • Thanks for posting this, I missed this when it aired and haven't been able to catch it in reruns.

    I really appreciate it.

  • this is perfect because i am going through a phase of japanese obsession.....

  • It's katsuo BOshi not bushi

  • I did not know that Bonito is also Skipjack.

    That's cool to know.

  • did alton just shop lift? nice!

  • Haha, I love the Samurai Futaba reference from SNL. Great episode, GETV!

  • FINALLY ASIAN FOOD.

when is he going to make kimchi? although given that korean food is very spicy, the recipe will probably all be wrong.

  • @silksarii Actually, Alton at one point made pad thai using an extremely authentic recipe and method, and did the same with miso soup in this episode. If at some point he did do a show on Korean food, there's no doubt he'd give it the same treatment. If there's one chef on the food network who respects authenticity, it's Alton. And as for the spice, he's done recipes for spicy pickled carrots, hot tamales, five-alarm chili, and extremely potent salsa, so kimchi should be a snap for him.

  • good point. i revoke my previous statement. i do hope he makes korean cuisine, though. it will be interesting how he does so.

  • Did AB just call himself an otaku?

  • Thankfully He's an Otaku of the food and not jus t"OMG ANIMEZ!'

  • I started cooking Japanese food because I'm an anime otaku. Not all anime is Naruto. Many anime fans also have an appreciation of Japanese culture.

  • Did I mention Naruto? No, I'm just sick of this attitude people seem to be having"OMG JAPANISE CARTOONS I LOVE DEM DEY DA BEST EVURZ"

  • Well your opinion of anime indicates that you likely formed your view of it from the popular stuff on TV. However, some anime has genuine artistic merit.

So look around a bit more before judging anime or the good taste of its fans.

  • Don't assume, I don't watch Anime on Tv, and the only good Animies I have seen are 1: Mermaid Forest and 2:One Piece, the rest are series on tv t hat do not interest me, and that the fans ruin,

If I want to see quality anime I will watch the movies, such as Ponyo, Little Nemo, Ect

SOME Anime does, Death Note has very pretty art, but I doubt the fans have good taste I hav eseen their idea of art, some is good, the rest is buttsex.

  • Difficult to do if all you watch is a show about a 12 year old sexual deviant with Tourette's Syndrome who claims to be a ninja, you must admit. Actually... now that i think about it, are there ANY action animes that have a good depiction of the Japanese culture outside of the ancient cultures?

  • And this has to do with food how?

  • lolprejudice

  • @PraiseDivineMercy *weeaboo

  • oh alton~ it's otaku... ADORABLE!

  • By the way, the poem that Alton recites, probably of his own making, is a haiku

  • I prefer the senryū styling of Yosa Buson : I cannot see her tonight. I have to give her up So I will eat fugu

  • i saw this yesterday, but missed the first half haha. thanks for uploading!
