  • To all of you who are saying that CVTs are boring and regular automatics are better and more fun to drive, why not just buy a manual and drive properly, without complaining. Because using your logic every single automatic is boring.

  • when u floor it it acts as a high stall torque converter

  • 0-whhoooooowhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa-120mph

  • I love driving my CVT. Once the car hits the power band, it feels like you're being shot out of a slingshot.

  • soo with cvt they still have a sportmatic so what does shifting up and down do?

  • I feel like cvt's are overrated...just like electronic TB's...I can see the appeal of not having to shift gears or worrying about your POS automatic tranny that no one seems to make reliable anymore. Does anyone know if these cars can be modified without damaging the CVT, I'm looking at a 07 with one and I've heard the CVT's can't handle torque well

  • much better than a honda

  • those CVT trannys are weird, its like its slipping all the time :S

  • and keep repeating the process. It won't harm the transmission, but it will keep torque in the powerbands, instead of losing the torque when its redlined. I can go 0 to 120 far quicker than in this video.

  • I have a 2007 3.5 altima with the CVT, I didn't like how it worked at first, until I learned how to cheat how it works. Keeping it in drive (D) and just flooring it loses all its power after about 50 mph. The way to make it fast is to keep it in D until it redlines, then slap it to the left so its in the sport shifter mode. The rpms will drop back down to about 5K, then slap it back into drive and keep it floored! once it goes back to redline, slap the shifter over again,

  • Can anyone tell me why this video is rated mature? Who can I point fingers at?

  • Trash...

  • If you are cruising on the highway at 60mph, will the rpm stay at 6000? If so, wouldn't that be inefficient?

    Thanks

  • @driftx2 no it won't, it'll probably change the ratio after you accelerate and start cruising to the most efficient possible ratio. so your RPM would probably be a lot lower. more efficient than a manual transmission car in overdrive.

  • But it's not good on the engine to keep it redlined while accelerating is it??

  • boring transmission = boring car

  • Sounds like a Clutch slipping

  • this video is fake... his tach does not move from 6000 rpms. its a fake.

  • @himedodge It's not fake, that's how the CVT works, I have one myself!

  • @himedodge That's what CTV Transmissions do

  • @himedodge wow you're an idiot

  • @himedodge Wow don't you feel like a dumbass.

  • It sounds like a clutch going to hell.

  • My E30 has a better acceleration than this japanese piece of shit

  • CVT transmissions suck. ya lets run the motor at 6 grand from 0-60 fuckin stupid

  • @Candelora87 The reason the engine is pegged at 6 KRPM is because that's where its powerband is. Engines make peak power at a certain RPM. When you're trying to accelerate the quickest, you want to keep your engine in its powerband. That's why people like having more gears in a MT, so they can shift and keep the engine in the best RPM possible. With a CVT, it just STAYS in the powerband instead of having to shift through 2,3,4,5,6,7 etc.

  • The cvt is truly ingenious and is the most perfect concept for a transmission. Yet I can't help but wonder how many problems will be encountered. I'm sure it's here to stay, but will probably require technical upgrades.

  • wht is the top speed? i have an 07 altima 3.5SE, i have gotten up to 130 but it didnt shut down. anybody knows what speed it shuts down at? its stock btw

  • @Jharp82 I think its 135mph

  • What is a CVT Transmission?

  • @bmxmotocross Continously Variable Transmission. It's like an automatic except you dont have gears changing. The car has an infinite amount of gear ratios, and the engine and transmission are always working at the best possible ratio. So say you need to do a 0-60 the engine will rev to its max and the transmission doesnt change gears, but if your just in the city the car doesnt usually go beyond 3000 RPM

  • Man and i was wondering why the rental altima was doing that although it did shift gears.

  • @TheWTFers you know, i drive cars for enterprise and we have a few altimas. i noticed the same thing. i think it's the torque converter.

  • @atticusfinch13 its a fuckin cvt transmisson that does it. wow

  • Boring...but nice car

  • @cronicmoua

    wtf

    boring, but nice? ok?

  • @kenny1309

    um wtf

It would be boring to run full throttle with the car at redline the whole time, I guess it's personal preference, but it is a nice car to have. Any other questions buddy? ok...

  • @cronicmoua

ok? lmao why do ppl say that?

    Got any problems? Ok?

    I don't care! Ok?

MAkes you sound like an idiot, ok?

    lmfao! wow

  • @kenny1309

    1. People say that because they are either used to overdrive or a stickshift. Not many people have driven with a CVT tranny.

    2. No I don't have any problems, do you?

    3. I don't give a rats ass if you care or not, you commented on my post so that means you must care.

    4. Makes me sound like an idiot? I can live with that.

WOW what a fail on your part.

Do you know anything about cars? Do you have a car? Does it make you feel better when you comment on others posts? Please STFU....

  • @cronicmoua

    Wow.

Putting so much effort to type that I bet?

I didn't even bother to read it, just took a quick glance.

    Kids these days.

  • @kenny1309

Not a kid, but I appreciate your sarcasm...have a great day.

  • @cronicmoua

    Thank you, child.

  • @kenny1309

Well played good sir. Keep commenting like an gentlemen.

  • @cronicmoua

    an gentlemen?

  • @kenny1309

Yes, an gentlemen. Thanks for pointing that out. I hope you have a wonderful day.

  • @cronicmoua

I hope you do too, with your toy guns.

  • @kenny1309

That's funny cause you have no videos, for all I know you are some punk 10 year old who has no idea what a CVT transmission is, let alone how upload a video. Lets see some of your video's buddy. Internet gangster you are.

  • @cronicmoua

    I don't have any videos?

How did I get the 588,000 upload views?

    Come on now!

That's how kids call it now, "Internet Gangster"?

  • @kenny1309

That's funny guy, I'm done talking to you. Waste of my precious time, I have to go play with my toy guns now. Have fun with your 588,000 upload views. Oh and have a great day Kenny.

  • @cronicmoua

    Thanks jackoff! :)

  • @kenny1309

    You're welcome good sir.

  • @cronicmoua

What happened to "I'm done talking to you"?

    Kids.

  • @kenny1309

Why do you care? Only children verbally attack others on the internet. The world these days, people like you Kenny make it alot better though. I'm glad to have you on my side...

  • @cronicmoua keep going.

  • @kenny1309

Believe me, I will good sir......

  • mine has close to 70k miles and it is still covered.and I drive it hard, not as hard as this dude but hard.

  • I don't like that. It is far too much like a slipping clutch.

  • CVT's drive well, and my 2010 Altima has DS mode, makes it even better :).

  • CVTS suck. theres so many problems with them let alone they arent covered under the warranty. So if it breaks down, ur F**KED. Its more money to change that transmission then a regular gear transmission.

Stick with a car that has gears unless you want to run into problems later on, then you can choose a CVT.

  • @royboy136461 Not covered under warranty? Get off your drugs mate, Nissan covers 2004-2011 year models CVT up to 200.000 KM'S/120,000 miles or 10 years. The rest are covered under normal warranty, if you choose basic 3 years 60,000 kms or 5 years 100,000 kms.

  • @jmcle884 thank you!!! lol i drive a 07 3.5 as well and it IS covered

  • actually the altima has a 60k mile warranty for the CVT

  • I own one, hate it,. You cant excelerate and have it change ratio unless you let off on the gas or manual shift which is BS drops 250 rpm, fake illusion,. Your helpless to the transmission,. Note to criminals,. Never steal a car with a CVT trans if you are going to rob a bank and be a get away driver,. Your F*&Ked. You wont see a 007 movie or a transporter movie with one of these trannies in the car,.

  • @TheLivingDeadOne Did you know an CVT tranny excelerates quicker than a conventional tranny??

  • so... who is the do gooder jerk off that flagged this video???? nothing wrong going on here... he might be on a track or he might be in a different country where adults can drive like adults.. bah go hang yourself. nice video... good visual on the way the tranny works in high rpm

  • I wonder what kind of mileage you all are going to get out of these Trannys, I would think the chains and cones may wear out quickley. I wonder how this thig really looks on the inside, how does a motorcycle chain and those cones handle 300HP??, you would they would rip apart. Must be an amazing design, simple principle. I had actually thought of the idea for meshing cones as a cvt on my own years ago, I figured the cones would have gear teeth and mesh, not sure how that could work

  • i've always wondered why my altima shifts so weird when i punch the gas. i thought that someone stuck new gears in it before i bought it! this explains it haha.

  • 4 wheel scooter -.-

  • sounds like a motorboat :|

  • about 7.5 0-60 or so. That is alright.

  • I got 6.8 O.O

  • lol wow thats interesting, imagine if it was louder with a turbo it would sound like a jet or something. Id be the one next to him saying whens he gonna shift? lol

  • Comment removed

  • I'll stick with my gear lever, thanks.

  • Damn that looks soo damn boring, cvt makes cars more efficient but damn boring to drive.

  • @papayspeanut than drive the manual mode idiot. theres a manual mode on the altima and its very responsive.

  • The nissan CVT is the best in the business and they guarantee that the CVT will last for more than 100,000 miles, thats why they boost the transmission warranty. Even its a belt, it won't break. I think the CVT is great on the altima, but not in subaru or some other damn hybrids. Also its lighter and less maintenance than a 5 or 6 speed transmission.

  • i dont understand. it stayed in first gear? the RPM never stayed at like 6,000 wtf?

  • @dustinclint321 There is no "first gear." There are no discrete transmission ratios, just a continuous ramping of power.

  • @dustinclint321

In a standard transmission, you have your number of gears, each gear is bigger around than the gear before it. This is expressed in gear ratios. If your 1st gear ratio is 1.11, then for every 1.11 turns of first gear, the output shaft of the transmission turns once. Smaller gears give more torque, and larger gears give more speed. The CVT is a single gear that is different sizes in different parts, so it can act as a small gear or large one without a change in RPMs or shifting

  • quick, but i fucking hate CVTs

  • My 2005 3.5 is faster

  • crap GB.... where is the excitement of being close to blow up the engine... the high rev sound... it CVT case, better go in a train...

  • wow this was 30 seconds i want back of my life

  • man that is really un-exciting give me a 5/6 manual (with a clutch) anyday.

  • thats fast car

  • ugh... love the altima... hate what nissan did to the transmission... sounds like a vacuum cleaner... the engine sounds awful! :(

  • Haha if that's 1st who knows what it'll do in 5th!

  • is it me or is it fucking slow for a 3.5 v6 -_-

  • @whiteraider it does 60 miles (100 kilometres) in 6.6 seconds so i wouldn't call it fucking slow. the V6 has 270 horses. it looks like it's slow though, because of the CVT, and that's why i hate it :P

  • that car would be so much faster with a 5 speed..........there is no torque at those revs

  • whats the point of that type of transmission?? looks boring

  • wooooooow ;0

  • i honestly dont know if it's better or not. i just cant get used to seeing the tach do that....

  • can you boost a car with a cvt tranny? if it doesn't shift then you wont lose boost pressure it might be pretty sick

  • its a good engine with a bad transmission to me. but it still got it up to 120

  • its a good engine with a bad transmission to me but it still had no problen gettin it to 120

  • dude seriously WTF?!?! Why are CVTs so damn slow after 60? I times your 0-60 0-80 and 0-100. 6.5 10.4 and 16.5 A stock auto 2005s times are 6.3 10.0 15.4 I thought CVT was supposed to be a good thing.
  • @hercules71185 cvts arent that slow for the 2.5 altima

    2008 altima 2.5s 0-60 0-80 and 0-100

    7.4

    13.3

    21 sec

    2006 altima 2.5s

    8.6

    15.0

    23.3

So yeah cvt is good and i think from 0-100 cvt munches the 2005 altima 3.5se

  • i do that with my dodge nitro :D

  • CVTs are cool if all you care about is economy, but performance is out of the question, they are very delicate transmissions usually using belts

  • So, for acceleration, peak power is the only thing that counts.

  • Comment removed

  • cvt is the best!

  • CVT SUCKS!!!!!!!

  • That doesn't sound like a CVT... that sounds like a normal automatic transmission

  • @Callum027 So why would the revs stay constant at 6000Rpm accelerating from 40mph to over 120mph? Seems like a CVT to me as that's the whole concept of it.

  • @Callum027

If this were a normal automatic transmission then they would need to have some serious work done on it. Did you not notice there were no gear gifts at all?

  • @Callum027 lol brainiac here.

  • beautiful

  • That's really smooth, I wish my car had a CVT.

  • it sounds like a planes engine speeding up for take off:) except quieter......

  • Comment removed

  • I have an '03 Mitzy with CVT. At 140km the belt broke. No failsafe get you home gear. I was walking. I always felt I was wasting gas doing 5000rpm at 70kph until the thing 'caught up'. The gearbox weighed v liitle though.

  • @thewhoissuperb24 It sounds the same as cruising in top gear in a non-CVT car, the engine RPM's drop down to similar levels as any other car.

  • just thinking, since this car has no seprate gears could you go top speed in reverse?

  • @dukeboy11134 wow that would be fucking awesome. 2 fast 2 furious anyone.

  • i hate CVT......

  • I think you should be able to adjust where it stops becaues i always found my altima pulls a bit more around 4-5k RPMs not 6200...

  • it sounds like your're stuck in 2nd gear

  • this tech will definitely erase the excitement of the REDLINE RPMs!!!

  • @jongkongmas so true

  • @jongkongmas I know, haha. Exactly. This looks borrrrrring.

  • @KamZ94

The CVT can put the engine at ANY rpm it wants regardless of the speed u're going (cause it can do ANY gear ratio).

U can put the rpm either in the eco zone or in the power zone, and stay there regardless of gear changes.

From a "pure" perspective this is more efficient and goes faster than auto and *manual* boxes, however in real life the box itself eats some power and generates heat, more so in auto than manual.

  • Wow that's sad!! Ha ha you really think that's fast?? My 02 accord w/3300 pounds and had a auto 2.3 4 banger with mild mods and it would do 0-80 in 12 seconds and it was slow!! lol my gmas electric wheel chair would beat yur pos altima!! HONDA POWER BITCHES!!

  • @CRXGasGas300 ricer much?

  • @CRXGasGas300 Its just showing how cvt works and how it performs. And if an altima is such a pos why are you watching videos of a altima and why are commenting on a car that you dont like? So,why are talking bout a car that you probaly never been in or driven? Before you say something yes i have an altima i had a 1994,2003,2008 so i know altimas

  • @CRXGasGas300 Its just showing how cvt works and how it performs. And if an altima is such a pos why are you watching videos of a altima and why are commenting on a car that you dont like? So,why are talking bout a car that you probaly never been in or driven? Before you say something yes i have an altima i had a 1994,2003,2008 so i know altimas. NISSAN POWER FAGGOT!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @CRXGasGas300 Honda power? Isnt that an oxymoron? LOL. God laughs at you Honda loving rice bitches

  • Takes all the fun out of driving :(

  • weak.... 7 sec why wud u make a vid of a family car?

  • It freaked me out the first time I drove one of these. I thought the transmission was slipping like crazy!

  • @KamZ94 So if you accelerate normal, the CVT can hold the engines RPMs where it has it's highest efficency (Usually around the point of max. torque). So theoretically it's MORE fuel efficient than a conventional gearbox. The only problem of CVTs is their friction which causes heat and wear.

  • @KamZ94 First of all you have to understand how a CVT works. In this video, the engine stays at very high rpm because the driver wantet full acceleration / pedal to metal. With a CVT, your RPMs don't depend on the gear you are in like with a conventional transmission. The RPMs depend on how much gas you give it / how much power you want the engine to give to the wheels.

  • @KamZ94 This video is WOT... at cruising, the RPM's stay very low and CVT's get great economy...

  • i think with cvt u spend more gas...

  • @KamZ94 The point is that it IS/can be fuel efficient. Check wikipedia.

  • I think CVT Transmission is not reliable.. because it's got a belt inside. The meaning is that you have to take care of it, like with baby: not to accelerate gas too hard, try to drive quietly so it will have longer life. I think CVT perfect for old people. And by the way, I would fall asleep without shifting! :)

  • @TIMOSHINA i dnt baby mine. i drive it really hard and yes i race everyday. i will let u kno wen mine break ok lol.

  • @TIMOSHINA Yeah, but it has a 10yr warrenty. And you can mess around and break it like you could with an auto. Unless u do the Neutal and drop it in Drive. But u cant put it 1 and let it stay there. It has L and D. So its almost impossible. Almost....

  • @TIMOSHINA With CVT your closer to the engines maximum power speed for longer, and you don't have shift times so it's actually a lot faster. Some of the old designs had rubber belts which needed replacing but now they use cones or metal belts. The only reason they don't sell is becuase they don't feel fast because they don't have gear changes.

  • CVT is not reliable? I am pretty sure that if it was not reliable NIssan would not have extended the warranty to 200,000km/120,000 miles/10 years (whichever comes first) for models 2003-2010.

  • @TIMOSHINA this car was never meant to be a race car so if you treat it like one of course it wont last long.

  • @TIMOSHINA ok and so the early automatics never had a belt or chain inside them? do a little research before you comment and stop watching videos that you dont like. Fucking retard.

  • @adamslurch71 I don't care what was earlier, I'm talking about present time. By the way, retard is your dick!

  • @TIMOSHINA i drive my car hard and race it everyday. i will let u know wen mines break dow. 132,000 on my cvt and counting

  • @occckid123

Typical 16 year old. Have fun with your tickets.

  • @CoChicken1337 been driving for 8 years and never got a speeding ticket in my life. so stfu!

  • @occckid123

If you've really been driving for 8 years and you "race your car everyday" then you need to grow up. Keep it on the track people.

  • @CoChicken1337 i may race but usually wont be deep into illegal speeds. maybe from a stoplight until say 55 in a 45 then slow back down.

  • @occckid123

    It's still very immature.

  • @CoChicken1337 i drive very maturely actually. In mixed driving my last tank of fuel was 37.8 mpg and havent gotten a tank below 35 for the last 3 tanks. I have 2 unleash sometime for a little fun sometime...

  • @occckid123

You said you race your car everyday, but then you say you drive very maturely. You can't have it both ways. Mileage has nothing to do with it.

  • @CoChicken1337 yea lmao both ways. im bi polar...

  • @occckid123

Wow. Just stop now. You don't even know what bipolar means, and you're trying to cover your tracks with a stupid remark. Just stop typing.

  • @CoChicken1337 i dnt need 2 cover my tracks. yea i race everyday but its more safe than stupid racing say like dipping in and out of traffic or very excessive speeds. 0-50 races 20-55 races stuff like that and then i resume my gas save mode right after..

  • @occckid123

Like I said, very immature. I mean seriously...you can't even type like a 15 year-old let alone somebody who owns a car.

  • @TIMOSHINA its not a rubber belt though.

  • @TIMOSHINA The metal belts are actually very strong and reliable, the rubber ones not so much. So I would agree with you and disagree. And about the shifting, would it not be nice to be able to lock your car in its peak power while you accelerate instead of shifting in and out of your power curve?

  • @TIMOSHINA not all cvt have belts, some have chains like audis

  • @TIMOSHINA with all respect towards you i have to say that what u said in ur comment is a big load of crap. I have an altima coupe 3.5 CVT and i tell u there hasint been a single day when i havent floored it all the way down .I NEVER had a problem with it or even a slight weird noise from the engine , works like magic .. Nissan knows how to build their CVT's . The only thing that bothered me slightly is that it is Too smooth , even when u accelerate , it moves fast but its too smooth.

  • Comment removed

  • @blazemk @blazemk alright, maybe I'm a bit wrong but it's just my opinion. Hope your CVT will work well for you ;)

  • @TIMOSHINA CVT isnt bad idk why you think that and it for old people shhh so old people like to punch it to.

  • @TIMOSHINA CVT not reliable? Drive quietly? Don't accelerate too aggressively? F1 cars would be using it (The Williams Team produced an F1 CVT transmission in '93), but it got banned by the FIA in 1994 already.

  • @MicraHakkinen i totally agree with u micra. i actually liked how the CVT drives

  • @TIMOSHINA Nissan has actually pioneered this technology and actually its very reliable if u buy it from nissan. I always accelerate hard on the gas some times and i have no problem with it. Plus if ur getting bored with the CVT drive the optional manual mode, way more fun to drive.

  • The first rule of power is to never cut the engine, this transmission allows you to keep in the powerband from 25mph to as fast as you want.... within reason. I do admit though that separate gears sound more exciting, but power for power, this transmission will win a drag race every time.

  • isnt it better for it to shift? how is the car no shifting

  • what kind of transmission is this? i bet it doesnt last long

  • @mr3ggroll The type is a CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission). This type of transmission allows for a large number of gear ratios to be 'glided' through automatically, and is evidenced by the tachometer in the vid. Watch it again, as the tach shows a constant rpm. If you need more information, it's Wikipedia article seems to be pretty accurate.

  • @mr3ggroll i bet it does!

  • @mr3ggroll All I know is that I have the same transmission on my Versa and they upgraded my 5 year powertrain warranty to 10 years for free since it's a little expensive to repair. It's fun to drive though.

  • @exmello they extended it on all models wit the cvt trans i got my 10 year on my 09 altima

  • lol thats so weird

  • what the fuckkk

    it's got 1 gear???
