  • dude who gives a fuck how young you are...this is the most typical youtube reply to music like this.

  • fuck you vanilla. he's just letting some of the old timers know that their culture is not lost on today's youth. some kids are feeling these old songs, and therefore the soul and passion in these songs lives on through todays' youth. your response to his comment is actually more like the typical youtube response, vanilla. Great response, medallokid. Keep your head up, homie.

  • my response may be a typical youtube comment, but i specified that his was a typical youtube comment to music like this...not a typical youtube comment in general.

i expected someone to get butt hurt over my comment anyway, surprised it took this long, lol.

and no one doubts the quality of this music, i dont see how age and "old timers" has to do with anything. music is music across all generations and genres.

and really, this song isnt old at all. 30-40 years. that's a drop in a bucket.

  • YOu tell him! That made me cheer - S

  • JOhnny Salgado 3rd ave and Claremont Bronx during these times OH MY! Great Jam

  • i remember playing this as a 13yr old back in brooklyn. in the 60s. glad to see this back on as it was taken down. this goes way way back Joe bataan's voice is so sad and yearning on this song..reminds me of all the folks that have passed on.

  • man i was looking for this song for years i live in the south and they do not know of joe Bataan

  • has anyone ever heard of an Isley brothers slow song that included the words 4 corners 4walls cornered room or something like that. I heard it in the 70's but I believe it was older than that Please help me

    oldiez queen christy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Grew up and hung out in the projects on 106th street in the Barrio. This was out music. Thanks for putting this up - brings back many memories.

  • Absolutely this song**

  • Any one growing up on the streets of New York City during a certain time period can relate to every word Joe sings. You can hear the heartache, and yet, his songs are filled with beauty and such soul. My Cloud is my favorite song of all time. I wish the guy would give a concert!

  • just saw joe perform here in los angeles yesterday and it was beautiful. it seems like every1 here is reminded of ny. but for me it reminds me of growing up in east la. lazy sundays, dances and lowriders. yep im 26

  • Im 40 yrs old brought up in spanish harlem but live out now in Long island! My brother who is 52 yrs old remembers how joe bataan started and would watch him play on 116th street and lexington street corner. The guys that played with played using stuff like a regular hair comb and could make it sound like a trumpet! Talk about talent!~ My brother loved Joe and he was just like evryone else just trying to make music and loved the Latin rythym and combined it with SOUL!

  • another favorite of mine...many many moons ago

    ty ty ty!

  • Of someone bragging about how he's killing his brothers, pimping his sisters, the rims on his ride, how many guns he has, how much money he's after and how he's gonna fuck anyone who gets in his way. It is the prepetuation of wretchedness. The "music" is synthetic. I want to hear singing, screaming, horn sections, guitars, bass, drum. The ghetto is a place to work your way out of, not celebrate it's depravity. Sorry, I'm a soul man, not a hip-hopper.

  • i have this in my mp3 player and i love it!! i really like the strong sounds from those trombones!! very cool!!

  • the album cover is cool

  • bad ass song

  • Beautiful

  • True Oldskool. You had to be there to appreciate this sound of the ghetto in the late 60's.

  • The uptown sound of El Barrio. Fania record label. '68-'72. The ghettos were at their all time, bottomed out worst. And still, from there, this great music was born. Considered corny by today's hip-hoppers, remembered fondly, with great nostalgia, by urban baby- boomers. Summer nights were for schoolyards, corner bodegas, and stoops. Watching baseball games on a Tv on the sidewalk, with an extension cord running out of the first floor window. Staying up until dawn, and going to th

  • WHAT !!!

    "Considered corny by today's hip-hoppers"

  • Joe Battan was not mainstream. It's very specialized, regional music. Most kids have very little interest in the good old stuff, except for sampleing purposes. We're talking about music from the middle of the last century. People in their 30's today grew up on 80's music. Do you realize what year we're in, and how distant this stuff is?

  • Sure, you might have some point there but Hiphop culture is a big culture and at the same time as alot of people don't have a clue about who Joe Bataan is there is a large group who does know who he is. Not only kids listen to Hiphop, i consider myself a "today's hiphoppas" but i barely listen to modern hiphop at all. The Root of Hiphop culture comes from many different directions and started early in the 70's. But yeah we're probably both right at some point but i guess we can agree that...

  • this tune is great!

  • Well, I can see that you're 26 to my 49. I'm gonna say something here and you're probably not going to like it. I am a musician, and a serious student of classic soul, rhythm'n'blues, and latin soul. I have a record collection that goes into the thousands. I find african-american music to be moveing, soothing, complex, and of great historical value. But I have little to no interest in hip-hop, rap, and today's street culture. The turntable is not an instrument. I don't enjoy the monotone drone

  • I also am older, and actually played trumpet on the ST LATINS DAY MASSACRE album. I can say that everybody in the band was from the streets. We literally rehearsed at JOE'S apt, on second ave and 106th st.(or 103rd), anyway 1st floor. We did take the subway to gigs, and thought nothing of it. Joe was a steet poet and spoke to the real people who came to see him perform. There will never be another like him. THANKS for opening my eyes to the real latin thing

  • Do you know Tito Gonzalez? He use to play with Bataan when he was young. He is my brother! I'm 9 years younger than Tito and remember the excitement of seeing his picture on the Riot album. He is the one on the right bottom holding the bottle.

  • @byrd1nypa - That's truly dope. Much respect to the founders of such classic, great music.

  • @byrd1nypa That is one of the albums I cannot do without in life. God bless you (and I am agnostic so........) I love you for helping bring that album about. Eternal thanks.

  • that is a bad ass song

  • Thank you Charles. You said it perfectly. Nice to remember. Raising a family in the burbs I sometimes forget the magic of a summer night in the city.
