  • I have seen this movie probably 1000x and I still cry at the end of this movie

  • This scene always makes me tear up a little.

  • I want to laugh. Doesn't know how to live!

  • Sometimes I'm ashamed of this countries past. And I'm very happy to know that my family never had any soldiers or slave owners from that era. There are some guys in this country who think that the USA's sins are unforgivable and all white Americans should begin an exodus for Europe and give it all back to the Native Americans. That's sadly impossible because Europe is a small place. But is their someway America can atone for the sins of her past? Anyone have any ideas?

  • @godzillavkk We cannot make up for what people multiple generations past did. I personally feel sadness that it ever happened, but I don't feel any regret. I was not involved whatsoever. The US gov provides many services and incentives to Native Americans but it seems that much of the misery, shame, whatever it may be continues to be passed down generation after generation. There is not much more that we can do but look to it as a tragic lesson, and not let it happen again.

  • @magua4 I am more then aware the past cannot be changed, and your right about it being a tragic lesson. Some people(Including me) believe that just as the USA has received it's first African American president, a time should come when at least every other type of American including Native American hold that office. I'm just trying to see to it that no one ever makes that same mistake that the Americans of that era did, and that peace is established in all ethnic groups.

  • We have traded many great First Nations cultures for: corrupt politicians, a declining moral consciousness, a have and have-not society, and disgusting so-called personalities such as "Snooki." I may just leave for the hills myself...

  • Chu Moni Totanka Oh Watchee!

  • i love the horns at :50 who did the score for this movie anyone know

  • @nappa666 the recently deceased John Barry

  • howl howl

  • GRANDIOSO!!!!

  • Wind in his hair is bad ass!

  • The free spirit and struggles of the Native American very well captured in this film, i believe.

  • One of my favorite movies of all time.

  • the ones how are born from death will never represent life

    David Simões

  • I cry when Wind in His Hair say what he says.

  • This is the best scene of the whole movie. It always gets tears in my eyes. Because "the most advanced human race" is not or was not capable of understanding the meaning of a true friendship, respect or honor.

  • FUK THE WHITES

  • One of the best mixed DOLBY STEREO SR films of 1990 and John Barry brings a powerful score together that only DOLBY STEREO in a JBL cinema equipped with THX can do justice.

The way strings play in the score then the horns take over at higher level then back down to strings WOW! It sounds good on the JBL sound system in DOLBY STEREO pro-logic with great support on the sub bass extension low end.

  • Que maravillosa pelicula, resalta los valores de la amistad y lealtad, la escena final es maravillosa y la musica dirigida por el genial John Barry es en verdad genial.

Deveras que lloro con este filme.

  • The 'knowing' are always well prepared to discourse, the 'greedy', well they just get more ignorant and fail ever increasingly even to talk reasonably amongst themeselves.......look around you and see it's so!!

  • A lot of people say that movies like this and Avatar are made by arrogant white people because the plot is some white guy coming to the rescue of primitive natives. But in both movies the white guy chooses the other culture over his own.

  • I've seriously been keeping count, and having just completed my 20th viewing of this movie in 20 years, it still knocks me on my ass.

  • 13 years ago, I watched this movie, and I decided to love the nature......

Now, I am glad that I learn lots of things from the Mother Nature!

That's what I want to be.

    Thanks to upload this clip.

    Impressive again! Thanks a lot!

  • definite the best ending, full emotion and a geat lost !

  • the sin's of our fathers

  • 10x better than Avatar without the gay CGI and blue aliens.

  • @Dyz7 I like both films just the same.

  • Friend.....what is the word for it, in any language?

There is no word for it....in any language...

  • greetings from Tamazgha.

  • Once in a while you'll see something done in a film that just works but you don't know why. For me, it's that wolf howling at the end.

  • Anyone here feel free to correct me, but what I got from this movie was that he just wanted to be left the f**k alone. He met them, and they took him in. He only left because the f**king Army wouldn't let it go. The movie as a whole actually sucks, if you want to pick it apart, but that last scene is very honest and poignant. "I am your friend, and will always be your friend." Who could ask for more?

  • this country has alot of skeletons in the closet and this is one of them

  • So many people today have such a hard time telling each other they are there friend or they did a good job....sad..we find it easy to point out what people do wrong.....I love wind in his hair...he is not afraid of saying how he feels....beautiful..simple...elegant.

  • Oh sure, whites can destroy and exterminate a whole nation, then they just make a cheesy movie and all must be forgotten, and they are now the good guys. oh sure.

    Fuck you!

  • @Trickroad So you believe sons inherit all their fathers' sins?

  • Essa cena rivaliza com a em que Jesus alimenta com água Ben Hur.

Fantástica e emocionante. Toda sala foi as lágrimas no dia em que passou o filme aqui em Vitória.

  • the way Wind in His Hair is proclaiming his message to Dances With Wolves gets me everytime....this was one of the finest pieces of cinema ever created

  • is dis movie a true story? i like this movie alot im so upset that kevin had to seperate from da natives thank god we didnt see alot of them killed

  • That one person that disliked this prob still a basement dwelling mama's boy.

  • the thing in this world that desturbs me more than anything is the way whites treated native american indians.

  • Best scene!!!

"Can´t you see that you will always be my freind?"

  • This is truly the reason why this movie is better than Avatar and The Last Samurai and all the other clones llke it. It is a story true to the heart and a love story to a people destroyed for the purpose of modernization. As we have come closer to the 'American dream' we have come further away from what it truly means to live. The 'frontier' was a paradise we will no longer experience and that is the true cost of the modern era.

  • *:^)!!

  • My Siberian Husky howls like that sometimes. It's such a cool sound.

    Wolves are amazing!

  • Jeez, y'allz are so dramatic over things.

  • @existingdark Jeez why do you talk like that

  • helicopter73

Yes I agree , they lived in total marmony with nature.

    Beautiful people.

  • Oh I so wich that wolf was Two Socks! :-)

  • We had wolves in Britain too Records say the last one was killed around 1700.

So sad they are beautiful creatures and do not deserve their fearful reputation.

  • @ozzymandi We still have them here in Sweden, but the gorernment is sanctioning a hunt every year, for no apparant reason, the world is a sad place......

  • @ozzymandi

    A sad world indeed !

Though one good thing is that in Britain we have banned fox hunting .

I hate blood sports and loath the killing of any animal for "Fun"

  • Yes I agree. This movie was one of the best of all times!! Not only the ending scenes but where he talks about these people are not what he heard that they were. Also, the music is great!

  • From 4:19 to 5:07 it gets unbelievably and beautifully striking. You can actually feel the music manifesting itself emotionally. I've never heard anything more beautiful and moving in my entire life (than this musical composition). Words truly fail.

  • here's to the Native North Americans - hopefully you will teach us how to respect nature

  • 2:49

  • the argument about how terrible the white people were (and are) is an age old story. ALL advanced peoples expliot the weaker. It's sad but it's happened all thru history. We can't change it, just move past it. I absolutely love this film because of what it shows... one person can make a difference... and one persons understanding can make us all open our eyes.... Thanks for opening mine, Kevin Costner and the people of the Lakota and more. Thank you.

  • That doesn't make it any more right, and the fact that some of these same people were trying to be "good christians" makes it even worse. This sort of imperialism still goes on in Israel, and the U.S. wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

  • This is really frienship, the loves of the nattive americans who takes care the natura and animals....

  • Mexico and the U.S. did, Canada respected its treaties with native americans. They had one famous squirmish with natives, I think it was the Cree, not sure. Overrall, the french and Canadian government respected natives, and had no real serious trouble from them. The U.S. and Mexico had no respect for them, and were constantly at war.

  • it's unfortunate, wolves were plentiful in the great plains around the 1860s. they've all disappeared, and any attempt at reintroduction is met with resistance by dumb ass hick ranchers. some people can't keep up with new times.

  • I agree but I also disagree. The problem is two-fold...I think much of the problem is the idiotic manner in which the wolves are reintroduced by the federal wildlife commission and DOI...they all but create a guaranteed "perfect" matchup between ranchers whose livelihood depends on their livestock to live, and the wolves who obviously need to eat. It's a case of bureaucracy forbidding success.

  • yeah, they messed up. if they want to insure success for the wolves existence, they can secure the livestock from predators very easily. A wolf can't fly, if they put gates or barbed wire around the farm. the bottom line is that the wolf is given such a bad reputation, the myth is so much worse than the reality.

  • @UklaTheMokk True, but the ranchers were introduced too after christopher columbus landed. Wolves existed Wayyy before columbus landed in america. So who is really the introduced one relatively; ranchers or the wolves??? When you try to domesticate a wild land problems arise.

  • @UklaTheMokk 7:46 Oh, this is directors cut version as there are two solo horns at the end now another horn 7:58 I have the extend cut on VHS PAL and the theatrical version on region2 DVD and I’d like to get the bluray in DOLBY TRUE-HD otherwise I’m not listening if its dtsHDMA and I don’t care if both are lossey it’s the principle that the film was mixed using DOLBY!

  • @bklynguy27 i guess so but what happened to the native americans is infinitly more tragic than wolves

  • @Timuramaru says you. They're both equally tragic in my eyes. both are acts of destruction on the natural world.

  • @bklynguy27 dumb ass hick ranchers? ha thats funny. wolves are pests that slaughter cows and hefes, so next time you eat a steak or buger, rember that dumb ass comment you just posted. fucking yankee priss driver ass hole.

  • @jake92sc are you retarded? i'm actually embarrassed for you. wolves were here long before you or any rancher and cow. they only hunt to eat and survive. they are a vital part of their ecosystem and have every right to be here, to live. much more so than you have the right to stuff your face with unnecessary and unhealthy beef. please go educate yourself. deluded individuals such as you fail humanity.

  • @ItEnds2Nite yeah theres millions and millions of farmers, so lets all just KILL the rural way of life for a wolf. your the retard ass face

  • @ItEnds2Nite "wolves are a vital part of their ecosystem"- uh no, wolves are not necessary to produce high beef yields, not at all. And since wolves were at the top of the food chain, and had no predators they are not necessary for wildlife either (this would be false if wild animal populations grew to large and over-consumed the plant life, but this is not the case). I admire your courage and would enjoy higher populations of wolves as well, but your argument is based on a load of shit.

  • @jake92sc Yeah, they are dumb ass hick ranchers. If they were smart enough, they'd do something else for a living. you are so naive and stupid that if your daddy told you to suck his dick, you would do it in a heart beat. so shut the f**k up and stick your conservative thoughts up your ass you lil pimple faced, bytch.

  • @bklynguy27 next time your feed your democractic fat ass you rember the damn farm that came from. would you rather see a fucking wolf out of your god damn prius and be hungry or not see somthing that looks like a FUCKING DOG and be able to eat any thing that comes of a damn farm! Its ass holes like you that make america look like a bunch of god damn pussies. go to fucking san fransisco and suck on a damn penis.

  • @jake92sc that whole san francisco bit made me laugh really hard. despite this, you are probably a really stupid person.

  • @magua4 im really not. i got a 4.0 gpa. i just support feeding america with crops grown in america. and if wolfs died than id rather them than us.

  • @jake92sc We have a massive food surplus dude.

  • @magua4 yeah but we cant just stop farming. its a life style that effects millions of people. thats like asking you to quit the job you love, and just leave.

  • @magua4 we all feel stupid for reading your comments magua4 ha im sure you like your shit pushed in

  • @fordpride101 i usually dont comment, i just thought this page was full of dumb arguments. sorry if you think my comments are dumb.

  • @bklynguy27 Its not an issue of being smart enough. If you grew up in say, Canyon, Texas and your Dad owned a 300 acre ranch, and you went to Cowboy Church every Sunday, and a high-school full of like-minded people, you would probably be a rancher too. And given the circumstances, that wouldn't be a bad decision. If you grew up in Northern Afghanistan, and you were a practicing Muslim, whose father harvested poppies for a living, you would hate the United States. Thats the way things are.Dipshit

  • @magua4 yes it is, you dumb idiot. you can't help being ignorant, but other people can. It's not as if they're in some remote country, everybody has choices in this nation. We can't be selfish and take away what is natural just so somebody can make a quick buck. They are stupid, and if they were smarter, they'd move to a big city, Dipshit.

  • @bklynguy27 If you really cant understand why "dumb ass hick ranchers" don't want wolves reintroduced on ranchland, you clearly lack common sense. I wish there were wild wolves all over the place but it won't happen in long-developed areas. And I really don't understand what you mean by "some people can't keep up with new times". It doesn't have anything to do with what you are stating, unless you mean to say that ranchers who dislike wolves on their property are dumb. Which is wrong.

  • This film had an effect on me from the first time I saw it, so I bought the record, and have listened to it since. However I had only seen it once. I remember the ending had a haunting effect on me then, but didn't quite grasp why.

Until I watched it for the second time on DVD and on a big screen, and the ending blew me away. The editing, sweeping shots, two socks shouting, the wolf. . . fucking superb.

May of won oscars for the masses, but it will in time be recognized as a cult classic.

  • One of the first public screenings of this movie was on a Sioux reservation in S. Dakota (I believe). In some of the "making of" videos, Kevin Costner and screenplay writer Michael Blake tell of two scenes where the audience of Native Americans erupted with applause and tears. The first of these was when Kevin Costner was being abused and interrogated by his fellow white soldiers and he declared, "I am Dances With Wolves..." The other was this scene when the post-narrative faded out.

  • That scene always makes me cry. Man thats how I feel about all my close friends.

  • heart rending really....

  • Hits you right there don't it.

  • Can anyone transcribe what Wind in his Hair says in Lakota? This is one of the most moving scenes ever put on film, and what he says sounds so powerful in Lakota.

  • I agree.. one of the best if not the best movie soundtrack made.. and a fantastic ending..

  • Best ending ever, at least to me.

  • that wolf howling give me chills!

  • i always hoped it was Two Socks (if he got away from the soldiers)

  • sorry to say, Two Socks died

  • Was that two sox howling?;)

  • I don't think so. Two socks was killed earlier in the film by the soldiers representing the death of the frontier and the change that is coming with it. The wolf howling at the end represents that while the way of life for the lakota is ending, their spirit and tradition cannot be killed and lives on (that is why the wolf is a silouette/shadow). Plus the wolf howling at the end is larger and not as thin as two socks. But that is just my opinion, I like your idea better :)

  • a beautiful moving scene....made in part by john barry's wonderful score of course

  • does anybody can write down what Hair with th Wind says.. but in the real language.. not just the transaltion..

    thanx!

  • Another tremendously moving scene was when Smiles A Lot returns the lost diary to John Dunbar.

  • I like the fact that The Last Samurai is exactly like this film. Only set in a different area, with different people.

  • yea true Wind in his hair is just like Ujio, also there's the pawnee battle in parallel to the ninja assault. not to mention both are very great films.

  • After watching this seen, my heart tells me that friendship is more important than ambition, fame, and money. Loyalty, love, and courage are more important.

  • it's sad to think that many in the modern world perhaps have never even experienced true friendship before. Other things have always been more important.

  • Wonderful!..My most Favorite part of the movie..Wind In His Hair...You'll always Be My Friend:).Thank you for posting:))

  • i crieng

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks for putting this up! This is one of my favorite movies and I love this ending!

  • Missing Paha Sapa (Black Hills) and my indian friends!

greetings from romania and thanx for posting!

    great movie!

  • i watched this movie after reading the book BURY MY HEART ON WOUNDED KNEE by Dee Brown.

such an amazing and moving cinematic experience!

  • awesomes

  • I just watched this movie yesterday in DVD extend version...What a sad ending, I did not remember very well how amazing soundtrack was...epic!!!

  • It's sad to realize what happened to all Indian nations. Pushed off their land :(

  • he should have stayed and fought with the rest of them...that would have been a better ending.

  • in the original manuscript written by michael blake the entire tribe went with him to speak "with those who would listen" rather than stay behind.

  • @imv001 maybe but u cant change a classic

  • @imv001 I THINK IT WAS A PERFECT ENDING..I CRY NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I WATCH THIS PART

  • @YotankaTatanka1 I wonder if the STAR WARS wife who watches STAR WARS then cries for days on end would cry at the end of DANCES WITH WOLVES LOL. You''re not the same person are you? LOL

  • @imv001 If he had stayed they would have all been killed much earlier than they probably were. He left so the USA army would not persue the tribe.

  • i love the spirit of theses great people and hope one day the evil that tried to destroy them will no longer prevail in this world

  • this is one of the only movies i have seen that made me cry.

such a good movie and story.

  • At 6:11 the music is just amazing, love the french horns. What a great score! The music tells the story better without words or lines from the actors. The John Dunbar theme at 2:54 can make you feel his emotion and character.

  • makes me feel guilty for being white lol

but I'm part native american too so idk...

  • I know how you feel - my mom is white and my dad was native american so you can imagine how I felt. I always used to be so confused b/c technically I stole my own land. lol:) But that's why I love this movie so much - I always get so emotional watching it!

  • thanks a bunch for posting this!
