If you assure a roof, education and food production for people they will never be subject to abject poverty if they are in a developing country and they will never lose touch with nature and community if ther are on a developed country.
@MasterVeggie - Is that school really that close to a nuclear power plant? Is that person really that close to a war zone? is that monoculture farm really that close to the highway? Is Barrack really that closely related to George W? Is it really worth worrying about salad greens near compost toilets, surely there are bigger fish to fry?
