well, the church has been selling all sorts of things, including false ideas like 'pay for your salvation or you'll go to hell' kind of thing, for a really long time. so the dead weather isn't doing anything outrageous by church standards. might offend devout people though.
@minniwhite completely agree with you there. if someone's asking you to pay for your salvation it's a lie. if someone's more concerned with getting your donation than teaching you about God, it's a lie. if someone's more concerned with rituals than about your spiritual well being, it is a LIE. maybe jack's already figured that out.
I don't think it's that big of a deal. I mean there not doing anything but playing music. And Jack White was going to be a priest anyway, so I don't think he'd do anything.
I think you all need to learn to enjoy life rather than harping on about churches and disrespect.
That church, im not even sure its used as a church anymore to be honest. But its just a building. Playing music in a church is not like stopping God from existing if thats your belief, and really, how superficial is your belief if you think that God's power relies on the church and whats happening in there?
Its not as if they're raping the audience under the eyes of God.
Its a church turned into a venue...like the tabernacle in atlanta...its not like they are desecrating an active church or something...and im sure they respected it
They aren't being disrespectful, so I don't see anything wrong with it. Besides Jack White's parents worked for the Archdiocese of Detroit and Jack became an Altar Boy, so he probably wouldn't of done it if it didn't sit well, and it must not of obviously. Either way, it's already done and the world has moved on.
minnie I agree with you and your granny - it IS disrespectful because of this : The Church is a supposed to be a tranquil place where you "transmit" your prayers and thoughts to God and I believe that this kind of energy circulates around and thats why it should not be disturbed by any kind of violent noise/rythm.
If musicians have a "fetish" for churches and other unusual settings, they could build their own theatrical sets to play concerts on.
A church is just a buiding, bricks and mortar, it's the people inside that give it energy, if they're not disturbing anyone in there who are "transmitting" at the time, where's the problem? Religion is sold in church and other music is played so why not?
@wessexjez I already explained the reason why, this is pointless to keep going on about it. Religious temples are built for one reason and one reason only. There are so many other places to go and promote materialistic goods, ie. music records, the fact that a church is being used for another purpose other than worship religion is disrespectful as it is. No point in keep arguing against it plz.
I'm christian and I don't find it disrespectful at all. It's not like it's some anti-religious band coming in and cursing up the place and bashing God. It's just a good old-fashioned rock band. If they meant no disrespect by it, and they respected the church they were in, I don't see the problem.
i dont really think it's disrespectful n dont forget jack white always thanks god in his liner notes and nearly joined a seminary when he was younger, n if i had to go to church i could not think of a better sermon to witness!
no, i don't think it's very respectful. im not that religious, but i still think it's a little bit wrong to sell stuff and play rock music in a church.
but then again, i sure would love to see them in a church..
From what I know, this particular church plays host to many concerts.

It's always interesting to see how bothered Jack seems to get about Mp3 distribution of music these days. Well, how cares, I love him.

Anyway Jack White was going to become a priest so I'm sure he wouldn't have any disrespectful intensions.
