@Carmarthan415 thanks! I'll be selling a jig on my site soon. stay tuned. BTW if you like videos please click the "share" button on videos, subscribe to my kevingg2000 youtube channel, and share to your social networks, follow me on twitter, like my facebook page etc. thanks again!
hehh.. I might have seen that log.. could be the same one where I picked this jig technique for monkeys fist knots..
Anyways, good upload - it's a pain to make 7 or more pass knots.. currently having a fight with a stubbern meteor hammer ball that doesn't like to stay inside the fist.. as u know, when they go bad and you've already cut the excess - "fixing" them is near impossible.. should have used more wraps, or thicker rope.. :-/
ive watched every video on yourtube about the monkeys fish knot and how to and i try and try and try again but never ever do i have sucess damn monkeys!
I am a 60 year old who first saw the monkeys fist when I was about 18. the person who made the fist would not make me on or show me how to do it. I saw your video, made the jig, and now I a thhe VERY proud possessor of a PERFECT monkey's fist.. Many, many thanks
@riegirrl sure, same exact process. different size items take different number of passes to cover. two ends coming out can be made part of another braid, or brought together with a lanyard knot worked close to the fist
i don't see anywhere on that link you provided directions to make a MF jig. its unfortunate too he has some nice ideas but doesn't post much on that blog.
@forgewhore yes if you have smaller balls then you wrap them fewer times. Frankly, my balls are gigantic and require multiple wrappings. To each their own.
thanks for the video ive done a few of these but never really got into them but i think this simple little jig will make it a bit easier
Wow, this was really cool to watch. And great recorder angle as well.. and great quality. Did a slick job of getting up close. Really showed some nice detail.

Great idea the jig - couple of thoughts came to mind whilst watching
1. The last pass - couldn't it be done on the outside making the knot easier to tie?
2. How about modifying the jig to hold the loose end - say another pencil with a bulldog clip superglued on?
iandstanley 6 days ago
how much cord did you use? for the whole knot plus the adjustable lanyard? is it all one piece?

This is the coolest craft video ever!
I've done this knot freehand and on a much smaller scale and it's a pain the butt....

Could you maybe, think of a way to make a jig for a double monkeys fist? Then a tutorial? Or a showcase?

you should include a little info about the monkey's fist, for those who don't know what it is.

@kevingg2000 about how much paracord did you use and was it gutted, does gutting it make it better ?
biggnigg513 2 months ago
@biggnigg513 NO, gutting the cord makes it far more difficult! I start with 20' to make my steel saints lanyard. just the fist takes around 10'
kevingg2000 2 months ago
Great job, like the jig, should try it. I used to make mine with ski rope and it works well but just a little thick though.

Forge. Small is identical process and easy to do in the hand with up to 4 passes.

@forgewhore Depends on the size of the cord, but for the same size cord, yes. Me, I prefer a globe knot to a monkey fist.
