As a person who was in an opera crew, I wouldn't compare these two. Since both these sing very well, simply they have different styles of singing..!! If Tarja start sings with her natural voice all those high notes, she would too sound like screaming and would look like screaming..!!! It's wrong that we compare them..!!

The best reason I can give you is when she sings those notes it has so much base in them... It means, those notes could be sung in normal voice with some effort. Tarja had class and elegance. It was a real singer, which was created to sing the Gothic. However, Annette is a typical pop voice, not suitable for this kind of music.

I'm not going to enter into the TvA debate, but clearly there are 2 Nightwishes - with music written for the voices of both singers. Its dead even for me with this song. Although Tarja sings the song exactly liek the studio recording...I like Anette's charming touch at all parts she doesn't have to stress her voice to sing.
Also...the video is so fixed. There are plenty of Anette versions of Ever Dream that are better that could have been used. Plus its so obvious Anette is given as little screen time as possible to influence people further to Tarja. XP

3:16-3:28 is Marco trying to salvage what was done just before him. I'm not going to enter into the TvA debate, but clearly there are 2 Nightwishes - with music written for the voices of both singers. But (at least when this was recorded) Anette is completely out of her depth. Completely. And Tarja....well what needs to be said?

No comment on 1:48 ... Annette could even be a decent singer, but in a band like Nightwish she is completely not in the theme. Old Nightwish songs are CLEARLY made for Tarja's voice, no doubts.

anette sounds pretty bad! i can't believe it when people critizise Amy Lee... of course she has her great, good, bad and horrible performances, as everybody does, but she sure sounds better than anette most of the time, and her voice is deeper, stronger and more comfortable to hear, more beautiful...but anette...not so much...

A mi opinión el error que cometen los de Nightwish es el poner a Anette a cantar las canciones que canto Tarje, además de buscarse una vocalista que tiene un nivel inferior y que la ponen a cantar en las grabaciones como a una sirena -.- y cuando esta en vivo todos se dan cuenta del poco talento... pero si fuera tan mala los conciertos no se llenaran xD

Its dead even for me with this song. Although Tarja sings the song exactly liek the studio recording...I like Anette's charming touch at all parts she doesn't have to stress her voice to sing.
Also...the video is so fixed. There are plenty of Anette versions of Ever Dream that are better that could have been used. Plus its so obvious Anette is given as little screen time as possible to influence people further to Tarja. XP
