They are very easy to track, and quite resistant now to sudden dislodging from their orbits. NONE of the earth-crossing asteroids come anywhere close to this in size... and any that might be kicked out of their happy places by a large planet or impact would be noticed leaving their established places with likely centuries of warning

If there was any life the last time this happened, Earth would have been almost completely sterilised. Even most of the bacteria would have died. And a million years ago is certainly too recent. We can more or less trace human evolutionary history back about 300-400 million years.

The Earth has been around for 4.5 billion years. Life has been around for at least 3 billion. The really massive impacts happened in those first 1.5 billion.
