Since high school, I have NEVER gotten tired of this song. Out of nowhere, from time to time, the "jukebox in my head" will occasionally start playing this, and I'll find myself whistling and air-drumming it. There's something very enduring about this song and it's chord pattern. A deceivingly happy sounding song about a guy who's sad to be away from home, disgusted with war, and glad to be heading back. I'd like to meet Christie some day and thank him for it.
Damn ! Has it REALLY been 40 years ?!? This has to be one of the most enduring songs of that era...And its one of those songs that virtually EVERYBODY 45-55 knows, no matter where you're from...Christie might have been a One-Hit Wonder, but man, WHAT a hit...
The best music ever and "Everything is gonna be all right" too.

I wish we had music like this today instead of the junk they call music. Wish I could have been a teen in the 60's and 70's.
