  • I know people who work on film sets and apparently Ralph has a rep of being a bit of a prick to crew and stuff during films, don't believe that for a second!

  • Ralph Fiennes is a dying breed in Hollywood, a total class act who puts his all into his performances.

  • he asks the questions everyone wants to know about, but few actually have the balls to do it. He's not a dick, he's just doing his job, for all that people don't want to see the interviewee upset they'd just be lying if they said they don't want to find out the answers to the questions Lipton asks

  • @reecegrdn Lol that's so true. I wish I could know about Ralph's period while filming this amazing creation.

  • shit when the interviewer tells him 'to say his speech in the way that he did it' his face goes really creepy :s

    in 8:44

  • @Fississh totally caught that.. wigged me out for a second..lol

  • Lipton was fine. Give him a break. He's great.

  • lipton is a cunt

  • Ralph Fiennes is one of the greatest actors of all time.

  • well they did it...

  • Ralph looks so much like my dad when he was younger, it's uncanny.

  • @528491Inception Your father must have been smoking hot.

  • @LisaMackXx i guess thats why my mum married him lol

  • What is it about this show, God I love it so much.

James really gets the actors to reveal things, and open up so candidly about their life and work. I just love it. Can't get enough of this series.

  • Lipton is a creepy weirdo...

  • the little shakespeare speach = woow! even scoucers (i am one) cant speak tha fast! how does he rememeber all of it! I FACNY HIM THAT MUCH MORE NOW! :D

  • @09IpodQueen woo a fellow scouser!

  • he's my favourite actor of all time. He's amazing. and how heartbreaking when he's about to cry when talking about his mum : (

  • fucker.don't make a man talk about his dead mother...

  • @mekosilvar Look the point of these interviews is to dig deep into the actors life, both professional and personal.

  • brilliant actor, amazing

  • @bluesevern that is no acter that is Amon Goeth in disguises/ look!

  • he is sexxxxxxyyyyyyy :D

  • that excerpt from hamlet was the most fluid, honest piece of acting!

  • James Lipton- "We arrive very quickly tonight....* Short Dramatic Pause followed by the "I know you've been waiting for it" smile... at Schindler's List."

    *Thunderous Applause*

Ralph Fiennes- *Sits there LIKE A BOSS*

  • dont cry :'(

    please dont cry!!!!

  • I really don't understand why everyone is saying James frigging Lipton is a bully for asking Ralph Fiennes what his mother thought of Schindler's List. It's not an outrageous question - it made sense within the interview.

  • @captaintink3515 I agree with you. There was nothing insensitive about Lipton's probing. In fact, to me, it seemed very sensitively conducted and added great depth to the interview.

  • actually love this guy<3

  • his voice is so sexyy

  • what an amazing Hamlet transformation, in a matter of milliseconds

  • It's amazing how in a matter of few lines he's there, in the character of Hamlet, and the switch is happening before your eyes.

  • It is soooooooo sexy when he was about to cry

  • @kendrickashtoncroft That is a very bizarre thing to say. I feel that you may not have gotten the true meaning of what was happening.

  • @tululashortshorts shsuh it. It's SEXY

  • this host sounds like a professor giving a lecture with the subject of the talk there! lol

  • ah! It's brilliant and a joy to see an actor switch into character. His Hamlet speech was amazing

  • The whole point of this show is that nothing is off limits- James Lipton is one of the best interviewers in the world because he's so up-front and doesnt try to worm his way into sensitive subjects. I'm glad he does that- as an aspiring young actor his show is most inspiring to me.

  • OK, everybody, just chill please. Every guest who accepts to participate here knows this is not going to be one of those idiotic interviews you do on the red carpet on your way to the Oscars. Lipton did nothing he hadn't done many times before. You can never tell what reaction you're gonna get, that's the whole point. Fiennes wasn't going to dwell on it and Lipton did not insist. It's the stuff good conversations are made of. Nothing to do with envy and nothing sensationalistic about it.

  • Does it seem to anyone else that Lipton ambushes his guests by trying to force them to talk about deeply painful memories? Does he do it because he envies their success?

  • @Snackay

I get sick of hearing the "oh, it's jealousy" rationalization. It's lazy and off base. What Lipton is doing is attempting to illicit an emotional respone from those he's interviewing. He's trying to get a view into their personal identity (since, you know the entire point of acting is portraying something that isn't you). Now, I'm not saying it's right or wrong, however it's a common technique by interviewers.

  • @opmike343 It is neither lazy or offbase. Everyone know he's trying to elicit an emotional response. It's obvious, and its also a nasty tactic to bring up those things that Lipton has nothing to do with. There are 52 thumbs up for the comment above saying Lipton can be a bully. He's been around actors for decades and he pulls that crap. It's lame and uncalled for. I'm sure he'd rather be a millionaire acting in large movies than be Dean of an acting school.

  • @Snackay But he's not so much an actor as a scholar (look up his past), and I think he just enjoys eliciting a characterization from the actor he's interviewing. no one does interviews as in-depth as lipton does, and he's always trying to dig deeper into them. Sometimes he goes overboard (like now) but mostly he's a terrific interviewer and film historian.

  • Do pricks get any bigger than Lipton? What a cunt.

  • @pablo4115 i agree. he shouldn't have brought up Ralph's mother. It was obviously painful for him.

  • I love how everytime I see him I think "Omg its Voldemort" <3

  • 2:53, Ralph looks like he is going to cry!

  • he does the hamlet speech eprfectly he is one of the best actors on the world

  • I don't think I like Mr Lipton

  • ... funny... they don´t talk about "Wuthering Heights", also with Juliet Binoche..

  • how did the academy not award this brilliant performance?

  • He's so cute

  • i love him...what a wonderful man

  • i love ralph fiennes. love love love him. brilliant actor

  • Around 5:50 - that's so incredibly true.

  • Ralph @ 8:49 and on, I can't help but to hear Lord Voldemort.

  • notably absent actors from this series:

Morgan Freeman, Denzel Washington, Sidney Portier, Robert Redford, Warren Beatty, Donal Mophett, Wilford DIABEEDUS Brimley,

  • @actressindemaking

    Rickman is the man!!:D

  • i want him to interview david tennant!!!!

  • Holy crap, that was a really good impromptu performance...

  • it's all in the breath.

  • They need to do one of these with Alan Rickman.

  • i loove him

  • He's A Great Actor, Amazing as Amon Goth, And Would Of Been Great as Hans Landa But Christoph Waltz was outstanding in the film itsself

  • he is lovely, isn´t he? such a brilliant actor and so, so charming..

  • He would have been really great as Hans Landa in Inglourious Basterds, just because Amon Goth was so damn scary and so convincing.

He truly is brilliant, I hope an Oscar is in his future!

  • Gosh! I completely agree with joliecide, he would have been the perfect Langdon!

  • i believe that he'd be a great father...ralph fiennes is the type of person that could perfectly read bedtime stories...i mean listen to that voice..

  • Such a gorgeous man with a sexy voice. His voice makes Shakespeare interesting.

  • he would;ve been perfect for a lot of roles-- Robert Langdon, Ra's Al Ghul (even though Liam Neeson kicked so much ass!)

  • Watch the behind the scenes of GoF about how he played Voldy. He carried that acting technique he spoke about here, 1:36-2:12 to his HP role and it was commented on by those who worked w/ him. He had the ability to actually teach those actors who played his Death Eaters during the graveyard scene and they took his style w/ them afterwards. Complete brilliance!

  • he should get an oscar...he so deserve it

  • @kelzkelz520 an oscar can't measure up to the type and amount of talent he possesses.

  • Was his performance in Hamlet not filmed? Is there no way to see it?

  • i was wondering the same thing..

  • He is one of the few who seems to have "gotten" Hamlet. The man is young, hungry, impatient and not at all a quiet ponderer. The delivery ought to be fast and energetic, closer to Jim Carrey than John Gielgud.

  • I agree completely. It's why I, for the most part, love Branagh's Hamlet. Although I think he too got caught up in the braininess of the 'to be' speech.

  • totally... Though i've never seen it . David Tennant is also like that, but funny and sheer genius!

  • I think they should an Inside the Actor's Studio episode with David Tennant. He's just as cute as Ralph.

  • He is one of my favorite actors. He always plays a good villan.

  • Oh, wow... the way he recited Shakespeare... and just the way he is...

    What a wonderful, beautiful man.

  • My God he's scary, I keep thinking of Voldemort.

  • @soulmman thats what makes him such a phenomenal actor.

  • He is a really beautyful man and a great artist. Want to see more of him on screen... really.

  • I love Mr. Fiennes defensive position.... because Mr. Lipton can be a bully sometimes, trying to get emotional reactions from his interviewees.

  • @alejandra379 yea hes poking them with the words...he really poked everything out of jamie foxx LOL, watch the interview :P

  • @alejandra379 I think it's because they're both born the year of the tiger and they know they're the strongest so when they see another one they naturally become defensive! James Lipton personality-wise is actually hot when you think @ it. And Fiennes, don't get me started...

  • James Lipton totally pissed me off with his insistence on making Ralph cry

  • @asoapboxopera James Lipton is a cunt.... he just happens to have a good show.

  • god i want to see video of him as hamlet

  • I read somewhere that you could go to a museum (forgot the name) and make a request to watch a certain Broadway (US) or Westend(London)play.Either one isn't possible for me coz I live on the other side of the world.

  • That is how I always imagine the 12th soliloquy. Finally!

  • Most powerful movie that I've ever seen, lots of great acting and Mr. Fiennes was particularly brilliant, I highly recommend it to anyone who has not yet seen it.

  • in poland! im from poland! :DDDD

  • It wasn't easy for him to talk about his mother, just want to give him a hug! But, he's really brilliant in everything he does and cute, too! When was this originally aired,BTW?

  • He is an amazing actor, and a handsome one! And he's English.

  • DAMN, that was an impressive Hamlet.

  • ralph is so cute!!

  • He is so amazing.

If I could act half as well as he can, my life would be complete.

  • Pause at 1:01 it's gorgeous.

  • oh you are SO right. beautiful.

  • totally right, so damn attractive, haunting and frightening...

  • I love him.

  • Thank you so much for posting this.....he IS the all time most brilliant....I can listen to him recite Shakespeare for an eternity

  • He makes Shakespeare sound so wonderful!

  • agreed; i dont like Hamlet; but i love his portrayal

  • super guapo, me encanta verlo me conformo

esa mirada, y labios wow !!!

  • i love you Ralph!

  • The part where he talks about his mother's death is so heartbreaking...you can tell that her death affected him so deeply.

  • yeah it's kind of hard to watch

  • @darkambereyes - It is heartbreaking but how wonderful that she did get to see his brilliant performance in Schlinder's List. The man's humanity shines.

  • @darkambereyes @darkambereyes - It is heartbreaking but how wonderful that she did get to see his brilliant performance in Schlinder's List. The man's humanity shines.

  • @darkambereyes He is going to cry.And it 's break my heart

  • super bien

  • hola

  • when did this air originally?

  • 15 January 2006 (Season 12, Episode 8)

  • I can see why he dated Francesca Annis, his former companion.

  • I love how he recites Hamlet btw. Ralph is amazing.

  • james lipton is very dramatic, isn't he?

  • yes.

  • Yes. But for someone without the (imo- haha) luxury of a sexy English accent, his voice is quite nice. I like how he is very slow, quiet, measured, and gravely. My 1st time watching him was for yesterday - Daniel Radcliffe's appearance, and now I'm here (after a mention of him being on it too during DRs!)
