  • Remember two words, gentlemen (and the rest of you good folk out there):

    Time machines.

Someone, somewhere, must have invented it (lol). Would YOU share such a thing?

    Exactly.

Now all you'd have to do is get there, meet her, and hope you've got enough of what it takes to get past the other 10,000,000 wannabies. However, you'd have the upper hand on knowing just a thing or two about her past, present, and future ;-)

    Chapeau, Anna. Chapeau.

  • Why do the pool tables have no holes?

  • Apparently the guy playing pool is too cool to even acknowledge the beautiful Anna Karina.

  • Just watched this movie tonight. Loved it and was completely transfixed during this scene!

  • she is full of joy. this is whats so delicious about her.

  • There's actually no way to top the cool portrayed in this clip.

    Give it up.

  • song?

  • @capBWK @ultimosis

The song "Swing Swing Swing" by Michel Legrande

  • This song is great, any idea what it is?

  • I think its wonderful that Godard inspired many of todays filmmakers like Tarentino.

even a Lynch like quality to some of his flicks.

  • I meant to say MGM, not Khmer. This damned phone.

  • @peymaania Autocorrect strikes again?

  • I wish people could appreciate this scene. It is so brilliant and carefree. Compare this with the highlycontrolled studio environment of a standard KHMER studio movie of the same period.

  • What's the title of this song?

  • @fantasiamay / connard

  • @Fantasiamay You didn't have that many brain cells to begin with.

  • @MsJaneAlice. The simple answer to your question is that you have no imagination or taste.

  • Gilda

  • @MsJaneAlice Watching clips from movies you haven't seen is totally boring and pointless. Watch the film. It's pretty good.

  • which is the song?

  • I can't stop watching her. She's so mesmerizing.

  • @MsAarynZhou So do I !

  • Top !

  • Dear God: Please let me meet a girl like her!

  • Dear God: Please let me meet a girl like this!

  • Que maravillosa esta escena

  • there is a reason tarantino's production is called band apart.

  • if you like to see the movies history watch *BIRTH OF CINEMA* in youtube and enjoy.

  • pause at 1:43... cameraman in windowpane reflection!

  • @Ebroglio2

    great catch

  • @Ebroglio2 but the french new wave was all about not giving a shit about the traditional values of film !

  • i saw this in film class today, i loved it. anna karina is ridiculously attractive.

  • @YouveStolenMyEyes

    It'ssss a small world after all :P

I'm writing my film analysis on it now.

  • @astonewithnomoss haha hey there! that's cool i wrote mine on rear window.

  • My all-time favoutire film clip.

  • Anna Karina Is A Beauty!

    Perfect For This Godard Maasterpiece.

  • same question, anyone know where to find this song?

  • good bass line

  • master visual story telling.

  • I like the way her tits bounce underneath that hideous blouse.

  • Where Can I get this Song??? I just love it and I Can't Find It...

  • watched the film recently... it's hard to describe the emotion when the film ended... weird usage of sound which is always good, kinda compliments the odd camera angles/shots. this clip is fantastic has me smiling everytime, which is odd cos the rest of the film is the opposite. why do i keep thinking french and saunders when watching anna karina dance? she also has an angelina jolie look in parts. anyway, stunning woman, great film.

  • I like her spirit in this movie, and her dance here tells all!

  • pool table without holes ???

  • @underground141 You don't know much about pool games do ya?

  • Comment removed

  • Can someone tell me which Tarantino film are you referring to? Is it Pulp Fiction?

  • Yes!

  • @LikeManyThingThings Yes it is. I think he took it from Wikipedia, you probably know already anyways. The hair serves also as a hint too.

  • one of the most asthetically pleasing films of all time!

  • QUENTIN TARANTINO: "Everybody thinks that I wrote this scene just to have John Travolta dancing. But the scene existed before John Travolta was cast. But once he was cast, it was like, "Great. We get to see John dance. All the better."... My favorite musical sequences have always been in Godard, because they just come out of nowhere. It's so infectious, so friendly. And the fact that it's not a musical, but he's stopping the movie to have a musical sequence, makes it all the more sweet."

  • I'm sure Quentin Tarantino has seen this movie.

  • what's the name of this song?

  • Brilliant.....

The sensational Anna Karina - Queen of La Nouvelle Vague

  • Wow :) That was amazing. I think I need to see this film.

  • thank you so for tis posting........ its a all time classic!!!! just awsome!!!

  • hahaha, i was about to comment on this too. he just wants to shoot some pool, poor guy!

  • Nouvelle Classique!

  • If it wasn't for this scene, I don't think there would have been the Dance contest scene in Pulp Fiction.

  • watch the dance scene from Bande à part in related videos. Anna does a smoking hot line dance with two men. Tarantino's production company is A Band Apart

  • Si belle et si triste.............

  • extracto de la película "Vivre sa vie" dirección: Jean-Luc Godard estrenada en 1962

  • What's so great about this is that she has every inch of her body covered with clothes, and she still managed to look absolutely sexy (besides of beautiful). Sensuality doesn't mean showing boobs and ass, and she proves this.

  • Oh, I agree totally. She is the most sexy woman I know.

  • Mince shazam connait pas la musique :(

    si quelqu'un connait :)

  • If it wasn't for that darned billards sound, one could make an mp3 of the song.

  • @AngelofMusic04 That is part of the beauty of this film. The music was carefully recorded in the Cafe, with the billiards sound, which was somewhat revolutionary for the time; in fact, the whole soundtrack is hugely innovative. Anyhow, if you want the track, you can get the complete version from just ripping the trailer into an mp3, which does not contain the billiard sound effects.

  • fabulous....

  • immortal beauty from immortal movie ! Everybody - hats down !

  • I fell in love with her hairdo.

  • this is probably one of the greatest dance scenes in motion picture history, it is flawless

  • what is with the pool table not having any pockets?

  • french pool, no pockets, different rules

  • whats the point of playing then!

  • @onigiriman It is carom billiards famous in France. There are many types of pool games

  • Was this song written for the movie? If not, could someone tell me who it is?

  • very nice...

    great song

  • Tarantino could only dream of ever creating a film as good as this.

  • @milkmanchris101 He'd probably be the first to admit this. There are many references to Godard in his work.

  • @milkmanchris101 He did, it's called Pulp Fiction.

  • @milkmanchris101 This film is good and Pulp Fiction is great. And in this scene all she is doin is dancin. You want a real dancer and musician in a film you need to check Rita Hayworth in Gilda which is better than this movie

  • @oneindachamber

you must have shit in your head!

  • @Patafisique Ok so I like Gilda and Pulp Fiction and I say they are better in my opinion. I aint knockin nobody elses opinion so you must have shit in YOUR head for knockin my opinion. My opinion counts just as anybody elses motherfucker!

  • @milkmanchris101 I think he's made better films than Vivre Sa Vie, but he did borrow this scene in the opening sequence of the original script for Natural Born Killers. The script was brilliant until Oliver Stone changed all of it and kept the tite.

  • she's so sexy

  • I get to see this on 35mm soon! Can't wait. This is one of Godard's best films.

  • mia wallce anyone

  • Yup. Tarantino was hugely influenced by Godard. His production company is called "A Band Apart".

  • this scene rocks, i love the tracking shot and the music is superb, but is that name of the song anyway

  • She's so gorgeous

  • when you dance i can really catch three steps to heaven

  • I remember seeing this on the big screen over 30 yrs. ago.

I bought the laser disc and later the dvd. Guess BluRay is next. a favorite of mine too.

  • To all dear collectors : Anna's, Legrand's, Godard's fans, it seems there is no vinyl nor a CD including this track. I just wonder if it's not (in the vocal part) "Swing, Swing, Swing" instead of "Swim, Swim, Swim" but I'm not sure. I will post a comment as soon as I have more informations.

    Regards.

  • I think it's called "swim, swim, swim"

  • swing wing swing.

  • I understand that this is from the soundtrack of the film (which I cannot find to download) and that the composer is Michel Legrand, but does anyone know the name of the track / where to get it?

  • This scene is a gem.

    oh, Nana.

What's the title of song which starts from jukebox? thx

  • one of my favourite scenes ever!

  • Here's the inspirtation for Pulp Fiction

  • Anna's really sexy in this scene and i Looooooooove this track ! 10/10

  • Magic.

  • never get enough of nana

  • amazing ...

  • ale, saresti la perfetta erede di anna karina!!!!!!!!!

  • does anyone know the name of this song???

  • Probably the most effective use of subjective camera I have seen EVER. And just compare this to Tarantino's copy in Pulp Fiction - Uma is nice, but she doesn't quite live up to Anna. And she's not Danish :)

  • Could you elaborate why this is "the most effective use of subjective camera" you have ever seen?

  • :) Thanks for the question! Look at 1:15 to 1:40, a "classic subjective camera" (as in "Lady in the Lake"), when it's Nana's perspective, her look into the world: a rather frozen one, that illustrates just how desparate/hopeless she is, beyond this "happy dance". Watching the film once, probably doesn't convey this, but watching it a second time does - putting quite some chill into this scene, I thought. Would you agree?

  • aw I love this

  • I love this scene.

  • Thank you for uploading this video.A classic piece, One amongst my favourite scenes from GODARD's films.I would like to link this my blog

  • sorry disregard previous statement, I was referring to another Godard film.

  • Loved this cute little step apparently they learned it from some jazz artists who were over in Paris and put it in the movie. Can't remember the name of the artists.

  • Cute Anna...Love her dance!

  • Forse è il miglior film di JLG

  • Yes!!! Tarantino based Mia on this character..the haircut, the dance!

  • no, actually it was on odile (also played by karina) in 'bande a part'. when uma was sturggling with the scene in rehearsal, quentin apparently showed her the bande apart clip in her trailer, and she immediately got it after watching. his produxtion company is called 'bande apart' after it.

  • can anyone say "mrs mia wallace"?

  • My favourite pole dancer ever. :)

  • Ah Jean Luc Godard's work.

  • Wonderfull film by a wonderfull director. And indeed Anna is hot!

  • Anna is the most beautiful woman i have ever seen.

thank you very much Monsieur Godard.

  • Quelle superbe actrice!

  • i love nana!!

    y su musical propio

  • Ahaha...This scene is so, so cringeworthy. Ah, it's great. Anna Karina is lovely, 'course.

  • Eba, cena que eu gosto!

  • what song is this?

  • The original soundtrack of the film is by composer Michel Legrand.

  • This kind of content is what Youtuber's should post! Thank you and have a nice day like me after showing this scene

  • Acho que ela deu um pouco de mole. :)

  • amazing, does someone knows the song ? (i try, u know)

  • ohhh I love this movie

  • I love this, have to get the film!

  • she is so beautiful! thank you for posting this!

  • So strange. I haven't seen the original version of this dance sequence in years. I made this reinterpretation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ssk_RgML0yE

  • i love anna sooo much! and this is one of my fav. scenes. so wonderful. thank you!

  • thanks so much for posting this, one of my all-time favorite scenes!

  • I'm so glad someone posted this!

  • godard is always at his best when someone starts to dance
