Love this song too by Elvis! Talented gospel singer and you could feel he was sincere about God. Riches don't mean a thing without God. Only God can feel the lonelyness! The Bible states "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" MARK 8:36 KJV God Bless.
I wish God had sent an angel to visit Elvis in 1974 to tell him to rest awhile, enjoy his life, travel the world, and beome refreshed. And then, the angel would say, don't worry Elvis...your fans will be there waiting for you when you are ready to make them happy again. But I guess God can be selfish too. RIP Elvis
One of my favourite gospels of Elvis...I like the studio version from the 60s, but I think Elvis´ voice is much more stronger here and he sings with more passion...cause he really felt the lyrics of this beautiful song.

Thank you for posting this rare and historically significant recording of Elvis singing "Where No One Stands Alone". Elvis received this album, written and recorded by Don Gibson (it was his first Gospel Album) the year after Elvis beloved Mother passed away. Elvis had to purchase extra copies of this album as he played it so much as the songs helped him cope with the loss of his Mother. Thanks again, take care and may God bless you.
@JeffSchrembs Thanks very much for that extra info. Never knew that. Just gave Don's version a listen, it is wonderful. One also suspects the version of Known Only to Him on that album was the one Elvis covered for his 1960 His Hand In Mine LP.
Elvis identified a lot with this song, he felt the story of his life, that is why he sang the February 16, 1977. It was a great message he wanted to leave us. GOD bless you my Angel Elvis for ever. Love you.
@knowingElvis HOWDY,i had that felling also,my friend,it is The Holy Spirit,being a Christian,a believer in Christ,i'm not preaching,you said,"you were still looking" well the difference in "religion",& Christianity is,religions are"man made" & being Christian is a reality.hope this helps,remember,it's NOT if YOU are Worthy,BUT that Christ WAS/IS WORTHY,& ONLY HE,the GREAT I AM. YHVH.=YAHVEH.
Rare indeed, with Elvis at the piano and directing the vocal group on the spot. This is what it must have been like to work with Elvis when he was engaged and inspired. Fascinating. He handles the very difficult vocal crescendo better than he did on his 1966 studio recording. Thanks for posting.
i think if elvis were to become primairly a gospel singer people would still love him and i think he wouldve still been alive had he made that move because he wouldve been doing something he loved. not that he didnt love singing he just couldnt stomach what he became and it depressed him. its his damned manager and rca's fault for that happening
I only heard this song once before. A friend sent it to me in a message in my e.mail and it was the first time I heard it. I am so glad it is on here and I may look for it and download it for a CD.

A great performance yet again by the King. I think he almost cries at the end of this song, his voice cracks on the last alone..... He's so ravaged by drugs and the cost of fame he must have known he didn't have much time left . Its dam sad!!!
thats ok. i know exactly how you feel. i feel every word you said. the reassurance in his voice when singing gospel songs is what gets me through my darkest times.
knowingElvis, you are so right. this beautiful man, who knows hes at the end of it all, you can literally feel him crying out - it's such a special performance, a one of a kind, hearing him deliver the lines like he did 'like a king, i may live. in a palace, so tall, with great riches, to call, my own, but i dont, know a thing, in this whole, wide world, thats worse, than being, alone...' music was the only way he expressed his true feelings.
@sheltiepaws1 i seen below this someone never heard this before about the osmond brothers and lisa, but elvis knew the osmonds back when he was in vegas and after and called their mother and talked to her alot they became great friends, after elvis died they said elvis always loved talking to their mother she reminded him of his own mother, it really helped him alot to have someone to talk to about things in his life she was always there for him, glad he had such friends,
You are so right Elvis loved God so much while she with her own admission couldnt see all that he did. The curse is upon her now for not only joining scientolgy but dragging Lisa into it. Elvis must be turning in his grave, he called that a cult and said" they aint getting my money and now most of it goes there while he slogged when alive! OMG Look at him like a true King sitting there. Even sitting Elvis looked so royal, im sure as hell he looked more than royal even on his commode and no kiddin. Elvis would look elegant even pickin his nose he was such a class himself. Love him to death...simply great and thanks to star presley we get to see this. great share my friend.

toonful open your dumb ears elvis wasnt good after1973.i met jd sumner in memphis 1985 and he basicaly said the same thing. would you give him a mouthfill of abuse if he was still here?
who? J.D.? yes i would & i'd tell J.D. he wasn't that good,richard sterban,makes J.D. sound like a dying calf in a hail storm,so did George Younce,see that's my opinion,you can't change it,& i can't change yours,so,i know you gotta be a good person"to be listening to this song" So may God bless you & yours..that don't make mine,or your ears dumb,..just different,take care.
toonful open your ears elvis wasnt good after1973. oh and may i add i met jd sumner in memphis 1985 and spoke about the same thing. he agreed after 73 he wasnt to good. would you tell him the same thing. if he was still here?
I agree with the posters that Elvis' voice wasnt what it once was. But this is a great spontaneous, raw performance. I love it ! Thanks for sharing it.
yea his voice is awsome ive been listning to elvis for 33 years now and i still listen to his voice and it still makes me feell like im hearing it for the first time
It's obvious from this recording that he was very sick and had been for sometime, his breathing is very laboured and his voice weak - very sad. Thats not to say that he didn't record some of his best vocal performances in his latter years - I personally listen mostly to post 1970.
Listen to his original version and appreciate just how special this individuaL was it goes someway to explain his ever increasing popularity.
Gifted in so many ways, his peerless voice being just one of them.
same. i listen to mainly his later stuff. and yes what you say is all right. the original is perfect yet i like a lot of these special live version, coz they are so raw and personal, you know, its just spontaneous, its real, its Elvis just decidin he wants to play this song on piano, its what he feels at that point in his life, its about emotion and feeling with Elvis. you can just feel it in his voice, the pain, the crying out to god, he is really feeling those lyrics.
what an absoloute waste. his voice sounds terrible compaired to thats the way it is. only 6 and a half years earlier you can hear his voice deteriiate in the last 6 years every year is a little less vibrant. am i the only elvis fan who thinks this thinks this ?
yes but he was dying for gods sake. his death wasnt as sudden as everybody makes out, he himself knew it. he had to change his style and songs becuase his voice had matured and was in some ways better but yes overall of course it had got worse, much less vibrant. i think his voice on aloha from hawaii was just as bad if im honest. but here in this, its still a fantastic rendition, better than the original 60s studio master in my opinion.
i just heard the 1960 recording on all Elvis on satellite radio yesterday morning(sunday),it was/is great...well you know how opinions are..so i'll just say,..may God bless you & yours...
wow you call ur self an Elvis fan, damn with fans like you he wouldn't want many fans like you,plz read:Elvis had the greatest voice of ANY other person(other than Christ) that's ever uttered a word,..if Elvis sung it then it's been done by the best ever,& what the hell is this(a little less vibrant)bullshit,..you need to get a life,& for GOD sakes never say you're an Elvis fan..you know the more i think about it..U R A dumbass...& do NOT reply,i've already blocked you from mine...
no,holland not you..it was for the comment that colvis5,made about Elvis voice,it's not for you at all,i'm sorry for the mixup..have you heard J.D.'s nephew donnie sumner tell how much drugs they did with Elvis everyday, you're right i really think he knew he wouldn't be an old man..again sorry for mixup, but that comment from colvis5 just hit me the wrong way,..may God bless you & yours...
that God that elvis sung about in "how great thou art is real,so just talk to Him ask His forgivness of your sins, ask Him to guide you & know in your heart Jesus rose from that tomb,..im not preaching at you im just trying to help..may God bless you & yours...
his gospel is incdredible. one of my favourites is 'he touched me'. oh my, those soaring vocals at the end, and the unshakebable belief in his faith portayed, it really is music like no other. as Elvis once said that gospel was 'the purest thing on this earth'.
have you heard J.D. Sumner tell about backing up Elvis at notre dame,he said during a song, the 3rd row of students stood up with a sign saying,"Elvis is king",he said Elvis stopped singing & the music,& said NO Jesus Christ is King,..and when the music started the students crawled out,& yes i love"He touched me"..may God bless you & yours...
@toonful Yeah...it was from the documentary "He Touched Me"...and available locally on PBS Corporation for Public Broadcasting channel 10 W-K-N-O Memphis, Tn... A channel that Elvis watched all the time when at home in Memphis and he helped support it financially as do many locals...by the way...there is a version of it available for download for free on "Veoh (dot) com" ...AND another thing,,,lol,,,Elvis would have been highly ticked at me over the "KING" word...Elvis is MY KING...not Jesus.
@iloveallofyawl yeah,he was humble before God for sure, what a gift.I really think Elvis,or Patsy Cline,OR BUDDY HOLLY,"if they were old as dirt living now",Do you think folks would REALLY like,an old E,not I said the fly,God be w/U.
well if E sings Rockabilly songs you get to be a rockabilly right away, if he sang ballads you believe every single line of it, but if he sang Gospel songs you turned to be a believer in whatsoever, that what made him so special for every one of us
This song is on the CD " Elvis -Peace In the Valley-The Complete Gospel Recordings ". Such a beautiful moving song sung by a Godly man. It a favorite of mine. It always touches my heart .
The King of rock-n-roll at his best. Elvis probably knew he didn't have long to be on this earth left. All the Gospel songs he sings on stage in 1977 are TRULY AWESOME!!!
I just love him singing this and a brilliant job you have done, lovely pictures.Look forward to more videos from you.God bless Elvis he is dearly missed.
Elvis sung this for the album How Great Thou Art. His second gospel Lp which features the Jordanaires and The Imperials. Elvis mostly sung How Great Thou Art on stage. In 1974, sung Why Me Lord and sung it through 1975. Also, in 1975 sung for only time only You'll Never Walk Alone which he played at the Piano in Uniondale. Here was from 16 February 1977 sung this song this only one time. Get the album How Great Thou Art. I think it is Track 14 but Im not 100% sure on that but its on it.
There will never be an Elvis Aaron Presley again, or anyone comparable to him. Sad to realize, but i am very grateful that he existed and i will always keep him in heart and memory.. forever <3
Beautiful vid and totally right what u said in the bg..
Whether rock, blues, ballad, country, or pop, each number sung by Presley instantly became a gospel song in the sense of being graced by an astonishing comprehension of the human condition ably expressing both the mortal agony & exalting joyous dignity of man as incarnate bearer of the Divine image. No other voice in music so charismatically captured this ontological truth. Elvis' voice spanned love's spectrum & depth manifest in all its forms: eros, philia, & agape. He was an anointed one.
Love this song too by Elvis! Talented gospel singer and you could feel he was sincere about God. Riches don't mean a thing without God. Only God can feel the lonelyness! The Bible states "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" MARK 8:36 KJV God Bless.

toonful open your dumb ears elvis wasnt good after1973.i met jd sumner in memphis 1985 and he basicaly said the same thing. would you give him a mouthfill of abuse if he was still here?
colvis5 2 years ago
who? J.D.? yes i would & i'd tell J.D. he wasn't that good,richard sterban,makes J.D. sound like a dying calf in a hail storm,so did George Younce,see that's my opinion,you can't change it,& i can't change yours,so,i know you gotta be a good person"to be listening to this song" So may God bless you & yours..that don't make mine,or your ears dumb,..just different,take care.

I agree with the posters that Elvis' voice wasnt what it once was. But this is a great spontaneous, raw performance. I love it ! Thanks for sharing it.

yea his voice is awsome ive been listning to elvis for 33 years now and i still listen to his voice and it still makes me feell like im hearing it for the first time
colvis5 2 years ago
It's obvious from this recording that he was very sick and had been for sometime, his breathing is very laboured and his voice weak - very sad. Thats not to say that he didn't record some of his best vocal performances in his latter years - I personally listen mostly to post 1970.
Listen to his original version and appreciate just how special this individuaL was it goes someway to explain his ever increasing popularity.
Gifted in so many ways, his peerless voice being just one of them.
everydream7 2 years ago 2
same. i listen to mainly his later stuff. and yes what you say is all right. the original is perfect yet i like a lot of these special live version, coz they are so raw and personal, you know, its just spontaneous, its real, its Elvis just decidin he wants to play this song on piano, its what he feels at that point in his life, its about emotion and feeling with Elvis. you can just feel it in his voice, the pain, the crying out to god, he is really feeling those lyrics.
hollandgroupc2008 2 years ago 3
what an absoloute waste. his voice sounds terrible compaired to thats the way it is. only 6 and a half years earlier you can hear his voice deteriiate in the last 6 years every year is a little less vibrant. am i the only elvis fan who thinks this thinks this ?
colvis5 2 years ago
yes but he was dying for gods sake. his death wasnt as sudden as everybody makes out, he himself knew it. he had to change his style and songs becuase his voice had matured and was in some ways better but yes overall of course it had got worse, much less vibrant. i think his voice on aloha from hawaii was just as bad if im honest. but here in this, its still a fantastic rendition, better than the original 60s studio master in my opinion.
hollandgroupc2008 2 years ago
i just heard the 1960 recording on all Elvis on satellite radio yesterday morning(sunday),it was/is great...well you know how opinions are..so i'll just say,..may God bless you & yours...
toonful 2 years ago
wow you call ur self an Elvis fan, damn with fans like you he wouldn't want many fans like you,plz read:Elvis had the greatest voice of ANY other person(other than Christ) that's ever uttered a word,..if Elvis sung it then it's been done by the best ever,& what the hell is this(a little less vibrant)bullshit,..you need to get a life,& for GOD sakes never say you're an Elvis fan..you know the more i think about it..U R A dumbass...& do NOT reply,i've already blocked you from mine...
toonful 2 years ago
who are you calling a dumbass i am confused, do you mean me?
hollandgroupc2008 2 years ago
no,holland not you..it was for the comment that colvis5,made about Elvis voice,it's not for you at all,i'm sorry for the mixup..have you heard J.D.'s nephew donnie sumner tell how much drugs they did with Elvis everyday, you're right i really think he knew he wouldn't be an old man..again sorry for mixup, but that comment from colvis5 just hit me the wrong way,..may God bless you & yours...

that God that elvis sung about in "how great thou art is real,so just talk to Him ask His forgivness of your sins, ask Him to guide you & know in your heart Jesus rose from that tomb,..im not preaching at you im just trying to help..may God bless you & yours...
toonful 2 years ago
his gospel is incdredible. one of my favourites is 'he touched me'. oh my, those soaring vocals at the end, and the unshakebable belief in his faith portayed, it really is music like no other. as Elvis once said that gospel was 'the purest thing on this earth'.
hollandgroupc2008 2 years ago 2
have you heard J.D. Sumner tell about backing up Elvis at notre dame,he said during a song, the 3rd row of students stood up with a sign saying,"Elvis is king",he said Elvis stopped singing & the music,& said NO Jesus Christ is King,..and when the music started the students crawled out,& yes i love"He touched me"..may God bless you & yours...
toonful 2 years ago
@toonful Yeah...it was from the documentary "He Touched Me"...and available locally on PBS Corporation for Public Broadcasting channel 10 W-K-N-O Memphis, Tn... A channel that Elvis watched all the time when at home in Memphis and he helped support it financially as do many locals...by the way...there is a version of it available for download for free on "Veoh (dot) com" ...AND another thing,,,lol,,,Elvis would have been highly ticked at me over the "KING" word...Elvis is MY KING...not Jesus.

@iloveallofyawl yeah,he was humble before God for sure, what a gift.I really think Elvis,or Patsy Cline,OR BUDDY HOLLY,"if they were old as dirt living now",Do you think folks would REALLY like,an old E,not I said the fly,God be w/U.
toonful 11 months ago
well if E sings Rockabilly songs you get to be a rockabilly right away, if he sang ballads you believe every single line of it, but if he sang Gospel songs you turned to be a believer in whatsoever, that what made him so special for every one of us

The King of rock-n-roll at his best. Elvis probably knew he didn't have long to be on this earth left. All the Gospel songs he sings on stage in 1977 are TRULY AWESOME!!!

Sad to realize, but i am very grateful that he existed and i will always keep him in heart and memory.. forever <3
