Great stuff -- have never heard "Shake, Rattle & Roll" and "Flip, Flop & Fly" done as a medley (though it makes plenty of sense -- both were popularized by Joe Turner, and the latter is essentially a reworking of the former), and Presley does it seamlessly. This was still a transitional time for him; he had just cut his first record for RCA, "Heartbreak Hotel"/"I Was The One," and he still has more of a Sun records sound about him, not the pop feel RCA producers would encourage.
Actually it was Elvis who used Jackie Wislon's moves, rather than the other way around. Artrists always feed from each other's creativity. Jackie and Elvis were friends and had great respect for each other.
Watch Elvis singing Return to Sender: Jackie Wilson was on the film set that day and Elvis deliberately moved like him as a bit of a joke between them and for fun. You'll see the performance in a new light.
I don't understand the negative comments re Elvis.
This guy shook up the whole world of music and not only music.
Anyone who can't get that and respect the man is only showing their own ignorance re music and cuture.
But hey, it's easy making smartass comments from behind a monitor right, kids? And you'll never have a fraction of the talent or charisma that this man had.
july/2011. Happy Birthday to the man that started it all. Many happy returns of the day Bill Haley. "Shake Rattle and Roll", became the first international rock and roll hit in 1954 reached #7 on Billboard.
After watch Big Joe Turner do the same song theres still something missing here,, in this day and age, I guess back then a white guy doing that was cool but ib retrospect Joe still did it so much better... the Black rhythm n blues were just so much more unreserved, their bass, the whole outfit .. hard to explain. ...
@TheFunkhouser "Still something missing"? Good lord, this was the dawning of the modern world captured in the clip. A revolutionary artist the likes of which this country has never seen before or since. "Hard to explain"? Not at all, what you are trying to explain is the past, some antecedent.

@vp81955 by the way the RCA executives had a fit that Elvis didn't perform "Heartbreak Hotle" or "I was the One"

Awesome. You can see the raw energy. He couldn't be contained, like a wild animal. No stage performer (other than James Brown!) has ever come close.

Ever heard of Jackie Wilson? He was pretty good too. And also a friend of Elvis.

@margondine Yes and Jackie admitted that he took his stage moves from Elvis.
