China is a place of extremes! The rich are very rich and the poor very poor, and never the two will meet!! The rich know they exploit their poverty stricken fellow Chinese, and as far as I could see when I lived there they don't give a fuck how poor other people are as long they keep raking it in and are able to keep feeding their obsession with material wealth, and sod it about human rights, pollution and social conscience. A very disillusioned lowai indeed am I!

no no. this is only showing the very small amount of chinese who from the village. in fact, most, i mean most is 9 of 10 out of my chinese friend got their own moutant with private parking lot just for once a year holiday.

People in the cities who are doing well are very snobbish. The rural poor are disregarded and suffering.

i've been to china b4, it's so polluted and crowded, each block has like 10 homeless ppl in shanghai, and in beijing it was raining and very hot but there was no sun, only clouds all week

This is awful,surely there is no need for poverty with the money that is made out of exports and why doesn't the government help these people.I am sure with the miners if the officials wanted they could improve safety standards. 5 stars.

Thank you for you complement! As I have said, the central government say one thing, the local government s implement something else. Most of the time, even the central government in Mainland China is corrupt! Coal mines are generally unsafe because a lot of them are owned by local officials or collude with local officials. Someone just discovered some child slavery in Shangxi. I will do some research on that!

The rich and poor gap in China is growing bigger everyday. 5% of the population owns 50% of China's capital/money. The only thing keeping the social unrest down to a minimum is the govt's tight control over free speech and free press. Very sad.
