Great hard-rockin funk from Mr Dolby ! Aliens Ate my Buick one of the best techno-pop albums EVER !!! My favorite tape for long road trips ! Keeps me alert and alive on the road !
Listen for great music like this on a new radio station called "OffTheCharts" - featuring 70's (and some 80's) lost hits and chart wonders!
Go to Live365.com, type OFFTHECHARTS in the Search box and click on the station logo. The audio stream should begin. Become a VIP member and listen commercial free!
I love this video. It's so original, I wish there were more like it. Does anyone know if there is a group that does what the group "operating" Thomas does? Or is there a name for this kind of art?
This song was playing on the radio when I was hit in my very first car... it was brand new too... :( I still won't listen to Thomas Dolby while I'm in a car as a result.
Otherwise, this song is awesome and brings back a lot of great memories!
Wow, I haven't seen this video in about 20 years, yet I still remember it like it was yesterday. They used to play this a lot on MTV. And this was my introduction to Thomas Dolby. I found out about his past hits a few months later.
You are not from the time of "fighting in Central America" then... Lucky u!But we are all from the time of fighting in Iran...unfortunately!May the Cube be with U!
Airhead ~ a common derogatory term for a foolish person (most frequently young and female, similar to bimbo but often used for males also) Not the intellectual giant.
I haven't seen this video in years! Still very funny. I thought this song was a jab at Madonna? I love Thomas Dolby's music and all the videos made for his songs, but this is the most brilliant one of all. IMO.
Mm,love that tight, tight, tight point-and counter-point,musically, but esp lyrically: and Love his point here...please folks, notice the Year this artist was already Tuned In ('it was us made her that way')... what a piquant, pithy pleasure you continue to be, Mr. Thomas,(she said, with a smirk...) i just love educated subversives..keeep going! Oacar Wilde is more than proud!
Dolby wrote this song before Jessica or Britney showed up on the public scene. My favorite line in the song is "It was us made her that way". The continuing sexism of our patriarchal culture causes many girls to stunt their intellectual growth, at least subconsciously, because they fear being shunned if they're detectably smart.
Her name is BRITNEY! Flashing her cootch to everyone. Sets the example for girls today. While I'm impressed with the size of that (fill in the blank). She's not the intellectual kind.
This is a supreme mix of wit and musicality allied with great storyboard, and puppetry/choreography. It doesn't get much better than this. Thanks for posting it.
This video is killer!

LOL - only Thomas Dolby wrote lyrics like that. How I miss him.

He's still alive, and around, and making music! In fact, he was at the NXNE (North By Northeast) music festival/conference in Toronto last year.

Fighting in Central America = Nicaragua's Civil war Contras v. Sandinistas
Contras funded by war criminal Ronald Reagan by selling weapons to our enemies in Iran

I could never write like this. I didn't have the tact that Dolby has. He synchopates the ambiguation of the negative?
