I don't think you can call a cover of a song better then the original if it is too similar, the Judas Priest version of Diamonds and Rust is better cause it changed a one guitar acoustic into a full on rock song. Just my opinion though.

The band searched HIM out because they believed he could get them the mainstream hit album they wanted to get. THEY wanted to change their sound, write shorter songs, and experiment with different song structures and instruments. NWOBHM and punk have a lot in common. The whole DIY thing , the rawness and the i don't give a fuck attitude are all there. I love NWOBHM more than punk because the music is so much better. Each vocalist has their own style and the play is just plain raw. Metallica owe their whole career to these guys. Venom,Raven,Saxon,Motorhead,Ja­guar,Satan,JJ's Powerhouse etc.. all rock..every NWOBHM band I've heard are superb. Venom play with punks and metalheads, Raven opened up for Punk bands.etc..

I may get bashed for it but I always thought as early metal as a fusion of Progressive Rock & Punk; NWOBHM i felt took the technical elements of progressive rock and fused it with the raw more energetic in your face style of punk.....which in many ways, is the best thing that injected life back into rock n roll.
