  • Wow....the 2 best voices of that time, wish i could have been there!

  • There is no mountain high enough for those who sing like these two ... as the angels

  • Engelbert shows that he can sing soul too. Excelent voice.

  • Not as good as Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell, but good cover.

  • Just watched a documentary on the late Tammi Terrell to learn that Ashford & Simpson originally wrote this for Dusty Springfield...shame she never got to record it

    Great upload. Love the song

  • @65ecosse Indeed - Dusty was enamored with the song and eager to record it, but Ashford and Simpson were obligated to give their best material to Motown artists first. What a shame!

  • @GiuseppePascuale928

Hi thanks for your reply. Yes a real shame

Ashford & Simpson wrote some classic material. The only other song they wrote fro Dusty Springfield as far as I know was 'I Just Want To Be There' on her Cameo album. Were there others

  • @65ecosse They also wrote "I Can't Give Back The Love I Feel For You" which she recorded in the UK (issued on her 1968 LP Dusty... Definitely) and the US (eventually issued on the 1992 CD reissue of her 1970 LP A Brand New Me). They were also among the star-studded but uncredited backing singers (including Carole King) for Dusty's 1967 single "What's It Gonna Be?"

  • amy winehouse had the best female voice in this century.

Dusty left the Springfieldsand tried to do it herself with some success

  • was this before ike and tina turner?

  • how the english adore american music...they ape it so very, very well.

  • maravillosa

  • Dusty lets it rip in this Ashford & Simpson classic and Engelbert holds his own next to the fiery Diva, who could sing anything with so much passion & soul...Bravo Dusty, you are loved and missed & RIP Dusty & Nickolas and thanks to you both for decades of awesome music!

  • i agree dusty was absolutely fabulous just like everything she ever did anyway just love wish of my own to bad i can"t come across a genie totally awesome

  • the dress, the hair, the eyelashes, god she looks amazing! where did this style go? :(

  • True story. I was at Goodwill today looking through old vinyl records when Wishin' and Hopin' began playing over the store speaker. Like always, I came across several old Engelbert Humperdinck albums in the pile of records; I literally find Engelbert in every 2nd hand store I visit. Finding a Dusty album, well, that's nearly impossible. Just goes to show that people really do hold onto the good stuff.

  • Lady Bunny wears her hair like Dusty. I saw that there are two films in production right now about the life of Dusty. Englebert Humperdink looks so handsome in this clip. Thank you for posting this video gferdinandus !

  • she is hot..i just got a wood...

  • I see why Ashford and Simpson wanted Dusty to sing this as she is great. The problem is that it is a duet and noone she used would nail it half as good as Marvin did.

  • I have to admit I hadn't really watched this version from beginning to end. The side burns, big hair, and polyester suit were anything but appealing. BUT I downloaded the audio and listened to it over and over again. WOW! She is a genius. Her inflections and phrasing take this classic to a new level! Dusty is absolutely brilliant around 1:16!

  • FYI, y'all, he DID NOT mess up. He did not miss any lyrics, he just didn't do one little interjection that Marvin did. I just listened to the Marvin/Tammi recording. It was Enge's interpretation!

  • I love this and sung this to my kids all their lives...This duet is so much better then the rest, thanks

  • Why am I "in love" with a dead woman?

  • @Ilvcamusic Because her music isn't dead.

  • 2 of my favorite singers! Love Enge and love Dusty!!!

  • Everyone comments on what a great voice Dusty had and that is true but she was a really nice person as well and that shines through when she is singing or being interviewed and maybe they is why she is held in such high esteem.

  • Dusty definitely could sing anything. She fits well with Motown sounds. A beautiful goddess as always.

  • wtf? if this ain't white soul appreciate i don't know what is. lol. they say imitation (or covering a classic song,) is the greatest compliment. this is certainly a rousing performance. i love the pairing but then again dusty could sing the damn phone book and electrify the crowd! she was so soulful! i miss her!

  • @hotgritz4sho Ironically, "UnSung" a music bio TV program, stated, during Tammi Terrell's bio, that Ashford & Simpson had originally written this song for-wait for it-Dusty, but, when Berry Gordy heard it, he wanted Tammi to record it with Marvin Gaye to launch her career.:)

Either way, great music from great artists, & all of our lives are richer because of it.:)

  • I started to love great britain and british people because of her ;)

  • go dusty go

  • Dusty my favorite female artist." I only want a be with you ".

  • Ain't no sideburns large enough. Jokes aside, fantastic performers, fantastic performance.

  • Who gives a damn about someones' sexuality when it should always just be about the music. People that come on here to throw shade need to get a life and stop trying to get attention. Come on, if you were to love a music artist in the beginning and not have a clue about their lifestyle, then boom, they are gay....so now they suck?? Man shut up! Dusty Springfield was a wonderful talent and just as human as all of us. Get over it.

  • She was a lesbian.

  • @MIZIZVOGUE who cares!!

  • @MIZIZVOGUE And you are an asshat and there you have it.

  • D&E Classic !! Thanks gferdinandus 4 post !

  • what year? I'm guessing 69-72.

  • Happy Birthday for the 16th Dusty!

She would have been 71 yesterday...

  • pretty :-)

  • Love the dress...

  • Love the song, love the hair! Dusty was one of a kind... xx

Cor (Let's Talk Dusty fan forum)

  • Ok, Dusty is working the wig or hairpiece in this clip, WOW she is great!, GO ON DUSTY WORK IT GIRL!

  • would have been fantastic to see Dusty sing this with Marvin Gaye, she sounds great, what a great, great singer

  • No, his real name is Arnold Dorsey. These are really two of the greatest voices, and skilled singers. Shame Engelbert doesn't really shine here, but I'm sure he doesn't mind.

  • I think Engelbrt Humperdinck is the funniest real name I've heard. No offence.

    Dusty has an amazing voice!

  • AMAZING best ever female British voice

  • @jumanjibill You can remove "British" from your comment!

  • @StanBennet Stylistically, language and where she lived/made her trade British nationality not 3:! sucker!

  • @jumanjibill Since you can't read. Let me help you out. When I said drop British. Then guess what? You have "Amazing best ever female voice!" That means best female voice ever in the world. Isn't that amazing what can happen when you learn to read?

  • @StanBennet what are you trying to say, really, what have you taken such offense to? Are you just reaffirming what I am saying but putting this into a global scale, or is it that dusty isnt British in terms of her lineage and you were trying to point this out? You may now be able to see, there are two reasons why you may say drop British, which is appealingly phrased in itself. In fact my friend is it not you, who misunderstood my reply, and could you not phrase comments more sensibly in future?

  • REST IN PEACE DUSTY! Thanx for everything!

  • Her vocal dominates his.

  • i wonder what is dusty doing now

  • Comment removed

  • unfortunately she died 10 years ago of breast cancer

  • Sorry to say Dusty is no longer with us. Pass away from cancer several years ago.

  • So - he pays his taxes to Her Majesty's Government! Good lad.

  • Engelbert has been playing Vegas for donkey's years, probably still does....probably lives there

  • No, he lives in Leicestershire, England, and had done for many years.

  • ...super mugge...

  • There is a very popular drag queen from NYC named Lady Bunny who is a Dusty look alike but with 3 times as much hair ( if you can believe it ) LOL

  • I feel that Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terell's version is significantly better.

  • i prefer this version, but they are good too.

Shame they turned to drugs and died so young! :(

  • neither one of them died from drugs. tammy died from a brain anyersm and marvin was shot by his father.

  • They say Dusty is the white queen of soul. On the contrary dianna ross is the black Dusty, maybe

  • Good observation

  • oh yeah!

    i luv diana ross!

  • i love it..and dusty hair...love it..i'm sure there's a wig out there in that magnificent style so i can try it on for size:)

  • I just adore it XD

  • This is awesome!! What year is it?

  • Probably 1970 or so.

  • wow thats alot of hair on the both of them LOl is Humperdink Indian ?? or Paki ? I forgot how good looking he was.

  • Paki or Indian?? You cracked me up...thanks...I needed a good laugh today...lol!

  • Ironically, he was born in Madras, India, but there is nothing to indicate that he has Indian background. His birth name is Arnold Dorsey, and he is the son of a British Army officer.

  • Ironically ???? His physical appearance tells me that he is Indian . Is he still around ? I dont hear of him any more ... Tom Jones is still at it ..

  • I believe Englebert Humperdinck is still performing today.

  • Yeah he does look Indian. OMG her hair is sooooooo cute! I wish they wore it that way today. :(

  • What a voice Dusty had...whew. What a beauty, too.

  • De la chanson, de la vraie. Mon dieu que c'est bon. Oh Dusty, quelle voie.

    Dusty a voice, a legend.

    From France with love.

  • Woo check out Engelbert. This is so good, I love Dusty.

  • Imagine had Dusty been on Motown...would have been the ultimate Motortown DIVA...Bravo Dusty & Engelbert

  • the sound.♥

    love all from this vid.♥

  • no one in the world sings these song better as dusty.♥

  • this is upside down. lol

  • I love this! the music, their hair, their clothes. just my thing ;)

  • Englebert sang this great, and of course, Dusty is as great a singer as there ever was.

  • That sounds pretty damn good.

  • the only reason this aint as good as the gaye/terrell version is cuz the dink cant match the class dusty has..

  • Dusty ably carries Dinck and helps him shine. She could and unfortunately some times did sing anything. Unless the arrangement was less razz-matazzy, she would have been better to have selected a more poppy song to sing withthis poor man'sTom Jones.

  • Dusty could sing anything. I love her in this clip. You can see how much she loves Motown. But Engelbert Humperdink just looks a little bit dorky.

  • I no! Doesnt his name just make you giggle! i mean humperdink.....lol! wtf!

    great song.....DUSTYS VERSION KICKS ASS!

  • @trschaefer agreed he sucks cheese through a straw!

  • @trschaefer Engelbert you just don't know this was a bad ass dude in his time

  • Having viewed this several months ago and made a mp3 of it I must admit that 'Big Bert Dinck' does a real nice job of it. He's no soul singer but Dusty helps carry him along. I'm so glad that this performance is on here for us all to enjoy.

  • Lol, Diana Ross just THOUGHT she was "supreme"!!!

  • Fabulous song, great duet.....Dusty, wow..! Great voice, beautiful and sadly missed. Lookin' gorgeous in this clip and vocally brilliant ...what a lady... the best! XX

  • "The Dink"They said There are Mountains we gotta move but I can feel the Earth shaking more and more everyday the Mountains are almost gone for us! xoxoxoxoxo

  • Yeah thats right.....real music with a orchestra..how can you go wrong?

  • I love this video. It captures Dusty in her prime - she's on song, appearing totally relaxed and enjoying the duet.

It's also a wonderful study of her professionalism, with all the right gestures and body-language, especially when her eyes plead, then give encouragement to Engelbert as he recovers from his lapse in the middle there.

And to me she looks like a Greek goddess...RIP, great Lady.

  • She's the absolute tops! You can tell how much Dusty loved Motown from this performance. She was one of the few white singers that could really pull it off. Engelbert just looks terribly uncomfortable.

  • Wow, Dusty sings circles around Englebert - never heard this version before. Great on her part.

    Dennis

  • The Dink is so freakin' stiff in this video. Plus, vocally he pales, PALES in comparison to her.

The only duet partner that could keep up with Dusty was Tom Jones and maybe Jimi Hendrix but we can never see that one.

  • wow..this is pretty good!

  • 2 great singing legends.

  • What a charming couple they were in this duet !?

Such a shame they were only friends !.

  • dunno WHY i called him "dink".....damn,.....ii meant "eng"! ....i gotta get some sleep!....buit this is hot tho.

  • Wooooo! DAMN! Didnt know "Dink" could be so HOT!! omgoodness that voice. Oooo-weee!....and of course Dusty is amazing as always. No surprise there. hehe.

  • Fab!

  • Love her soulful voice. This is fantastic. Thanks for posting.

  • Dusty is FAB as ever. Would have loved her to sing this with Marvin.

  • me too.
