We just had -40 C (-40 fahrenheit) Usually it's around -20 C ( -4 Fahrenheit ) We even played a short game of Airsoft in that kind of weather. Snow is to your waist and you're carrying bags and weapons, that is some cold and difficult shit -_-'
which do you prefer: YKK zippers or Talon? I mean, I know Talon has a much cooler name, but YKK has been around much longer and there's gotta be a reason for that.
hey travis you have the same rifle as i just want to know what you think of it and should i keep it i think that the m10 762. right but if not disregard my comment.
I wear this coat outside during winter and it's kinda bulky. I want to know what to wear for going out into the snow but wont seriously affect movements
Tried going to the range this past weekend 32 degrees, it was misting all day but I didn't care. Got to the range and there's a guy waiting on the gate saying that the range is closed due to weather. I was like WTF!
People who didn't do so already, you should look into a good Shemaugh.
I just came back from winter sports vacation, and was the only person in the group wearing one. Snow was pretty bad, combined with strong wind and sleet. Even when the scarf was wet,, it still kept my neck warm.
As you might know, a lot of warmth is lost through the neck area, some major arteries run up there.
You guys need to run what you run best. Dont run whats good for Haley, run whats best for you. Just because you buy what he has set it up like what he has doesnt mean you will be as good as he is. Shooting is all abou whats most comfortable and best for you.
Avoid cotton clothing and underlayers. Wet cotton will sap heat from your body and at best make you miserable, at worst kill you.
Layer yourself with wool and synthetics.
You will burn more calories and process more fluid operating in freezing temperatures than in hot weather. Coffee and liquor are not hydration! The false warmth you get from a shot from your flask isn't generating body heat.
For the love of god, quit asking what optic/stock/break/magazine/gloves/underwear/shampoo people are using. If you can't tell it's a T-1 or a surefire break from looking at it, you prob don't know why you need it.
@NaxTactical Gotta be careful when the Mechanix gloves get wet. They can become a liability when wet, especially when it's really cold out. Learned this the hard way in a day of training outdoors when we had some cold rain.
@ffryan From my experience, most gloves tend to get in the winter. Unless its cold enough that snow doesn't melt easily. If gloves stay dry, they are propably too thick to be used effectivily while shooting. Stil looking for good ones :)
troll comment incoming......you know travis Travis you really shouldn't hang your ears on your gun! what if zombie paratroopers jump in right now and you get a malfunction with your primary weapon? sarcasm added! thanks for chiming in on this subject. I train year round, lots of other guys bitch about rain, snow, heat, cold, whatever. nice to see you doing your thing
Also, Adjust clothing on the kind of range training your doing, when your moving around and doing drills that require a lot of movement and such, try avoid too much clothing, you will start to sweat and the sweat will chill and freeze in a low temperature environment, however when your sitting or are more stationary, warmer and more clothing is better, try use clothing with layers so you can adjust to the activity your doing.
Great info and mindset Travis. I get pissed when when my dept. cancels training because of weather. It just sets everyone up for failure down the road. Due to limited range facilities here I do not get to shoot beyond 150 yards. Yesterday I had chance to get out to 350 and it was cold and snowing. I would have not traded that training experience for anything. I would have missed out had I just rolled over and gone back to bed. Thanks for the video.

When it comes to clothing, follow COLD:
Clean- dirty layers dont insulate or breathe as well
Overheating- Letting yourself overheat may seem alright at first, but you will start sweating and are gonna get wet and cold.
Layers- Layer your clothing in a fashion in which you can take down layers to prevent overheating
Dry- When you get wet, you will get colder, faster.
