  • You are too busy judging those that work nickle and dime jobs. worry more about the tax evading billionaires that are better at evading taxes than Al Capone. And then hide behind politicians that say they are patriots and "Christians".

  • First Student is owned by First America which in turn is owned by First Transportation which is based out of the U.K. and they operate all of the public trains and bus systems in most of the U.K. and Europe as well. They have over 500,000 school bus drivers in the U.S. and Canada. Most of them are very competent and underpaid.

  • @RENEGADE123Scorpion

So now we are outsourcing our school bus operations to Europe. Glad to know my tax money is being well spent.

  • @Woldeb These large bus companies are like "WalMart", they come in and underbid everyone else and snatch up all of the business. They offer cheap prices that no one else can provide. The schools and towns love to do business with these large companies because the money they save can be put back into pay raises for the superintendents and school administrators. If you don't like the service, blame your town officials and board of education. They went for the cheapest service.

  • @RENEGADE123Scorpion

Thanks for the info! It was very enlightening.

  • @Woldeb You are welcome. Also, one more thing....with regard to home-to-school routes, it doesn't cost the town anything extra if the bus is sitting in a parking lot somewhere. The school negotiates a price at the time they give the company the contract. The price is a set price. They get a lump sum and if it takes longer, the bus company eats the cost.

  • maybe the driver is on break? Maybe they are waiting for a field trip or athletic trip to be over? If the drove a group to an athletic game or field trip, maybe they were told they could go get breakfast or lunch and come back at a certain time to when the group is ready to go back?? Why assume someone is doing something wrong? Bus drivers are poorly paid. You need a CDL to earn $18,000 per year and be abused in a high stress job. Garbage truck drivers make more.

  • @RENEGADE123Scorpion

And garbage truck drivers are a lot more competent than this company's drivers! On my street, every truck has been able to go around for years without any problem. The two drivers before the current one had no problems negotiating the street I live on for three years. This current driver claims he is incapable of traveling the same route. Totally INCOMPETENT!

  • @Woldeb

Just because you had a bad experience with a couple of drivers doesn't mean you need to be rude and insult everyone. First Student is the largest bus company in North America. They bought out Laidlaw Transit a few years ago and Laidlaw also owned Greyhound Bus Lines, so now First Student owns Greyhound. They also own and operate the transit bus services (city bus lines) in several large metropolitan cities across the U.S. and Canada.

  • "Why are they not just doing their jobs!?"

Because the kids are in school?

Because the driver is off duty and not paid until his/her 2nd shift at school day end?

"Why are they taking up parking spaces in privately owned property?"

Because the stores allow customers to park on their lots?

Perhaps you should worry more that these drivers are paid dirt wages to transport our kids than you do about drivers buying groceries for their own kids on non-paid time.

  • where i go to school, first student..a crap company.. took over star shuttle.. another crap company... there service is now even worse than ever. my bus on a half day comes at 12:17 (or is supposed to) the bus actually comes at 2:50...WTF get here on time!!!!

my drivers not very safe either...

  • Ha Ha that is funny. Do you realize that all of the drivers at Ocean State were all First Student drivers as of last year. Oh and the owner was management at First Student for years. Do you realize that Portsmouth transports children to other towns for different programs? That the driver may be on a layover waiting to transport children back to their location. Do you also realize that bus companies are also rented by private citizens for activities, weddings, or maybe even trips to casinos.

  • Who is paying for the gas money to go in and out of these lots? Why are they taking up parking spaces in privately owned property? Are they trespassing? Why are they not just doing their jobs!? BTW, I have never noticed Ocean State Transit operating in Middletown, RI in this manner. They are always going either to or from school.

  • I am amazed that this is what you are spending your time doing. You are definitely lacking in information. I am a local school bus driver and know that alot of the times that you see a school bus parked anywhere that it is when a driver is between runs. The driver is not being paid and the bus is not moving therefore saving gas. Also there are idling laws that we have to abide by and therefore in this weather cannot just sit in our bus and freeze. Where are you when drivers are running my reds?
