  • @PhyraxDesigns even worse is when there's the mic static/squeak noise, and they bumble about, not seeming to know what they're doing... not saying that hamsterhill is doing that, but you know which ones I'm talking about! ;)

  • I've tried this step by step but each time I go to paint from another view, the view I just got done painting, gets all messed up, I don't see what I"m doing wrong.

  • "Hmm, texture painting? I'm new to Blender and this sounds pretty interest - HOLY crap! It's Firefly!"

  • It's Serenity!

  • wow i had no idea blender had this hidden all along o.O we may all have to go BACK to 2.xx and start reading the developers notes.

  • great tutorial but i just can't get the texture button to do the clone stuff, still got the grid and the "set rendering" ones.

  • Great tutorial thank you. but damn it you made me really miss Firefly and Capt tight pants!

  • This help me a lot.

    Thanks.

  • you don't know how grateful I am for this tutorial. I modeled an AK-47 but had problems with the whole seaming and unwraping, and what was worst, making the skin only with the UV map result was a real pain on the eyes (rly, MY EYES not my ass) I couldn't stop thinking: there must be a reasonable "easier way" to do this. and thanks to you now i know it. thank you.

  • ctrl+zed lol

  • good tutorial

  • oh i think you underestimate me :P

  • @hamsterhill NEVER UNDERESTIMATE A SAIYAN

    You+vegetavoice=EPIC TUTORIAL

  • hehe fair enough... would it help it the tutorials were more EXTREME!!! :P

  • @PhyraxDesigns hehe hey whats wrong with a little thrash metal man

  • i tab into edit mode and select all vertices, then when i press U and choose unwrap (smart projections), i don't get a uv layout in the uv image edit window.

    it's just blank.

    ???

  • the instructions from 3:45 to 4:15 are critical to understanding how to close the UV projection image from one UV to use as the brush to paint onto the seconed UVTex RESULT

  • hmm... perplexing... i don't quite get what you mean... perhaps if you start again and see if you get the same result.

  • Reading back that did made little sense, sorry about that! I'll try and explain again:

I have texture-painted the top half of the model, which looks great. *I think I'm missing a step here?* I next want to paint the top. To do this, I move the projection of the ship in the UV/Image editor to the picture of the bottom of the ship -> !! This instantaneously has the effect of repainting the bits I have already painted with the bottom part of the ship (where the net lies in the UV editor).

    Thanks

  • ok well did you continue to follow the tutorial after that... because i think the missing step is AFTER you do that. then you need to reselect the UV you wish to be drawn in the view.

  • Hi HH,

This is a great demonstration, however I have a issue. On the video once you have texture painted the first (bottom) part (5.30), you then go to edit mode and UV/image editor. In the video you move the ship image and start texture painting again and move the ship to the other . When I do this, it refreshes my first painting so that I'm left with the picture of the top on the bottom! Presumably I am just missing a (tiny) step, to finalise the first painting.I hope this makes sense.

    Thanks

  • awesome

  • I keep getting dark edges along the smart proj unwrap...no - bleed doesn't help... As I tex paint near an edge I get colour spill (black). very annoying.

  • perhaps unwraping the model correctly and putting the seams in less viable places would fix that..

  • The prob as I see it is that bleed is creating artifacts along the tangent of intersect. If I remove bleed (0) then I end up with black lines. I don't think seams will help here...as I am trying to get a seamless tex.

  • ... did you try though? how can you be sure that that isn't the solution to your poroblems if you didn't try? and i personally use bleed because its better to have it the same colour then to have black lines everywherre. also when you start you should change the background colour of the image so something like a base colour for your model so that even if the uv dose slip it will not be as noticable as black

  • lol ur right...I should try it. I have used seams as u have asked and changed the BG col of the underlaying tex and yes there is a marked improvement... only the problem still persists and using seams is time consuming. Ur video made it look so easy!! I exp with a simple curve and I am having the same issues... mayb its my system that can't handle this.

  • i doubt that it's youre computer because the one i did this tutorial on only as like 1.6GHZ processor and 1GB ram. well another idea is after you haev painted all yout model you can then use the uv/image editor and use it to snudge the edges of all the uv islands so that there are no more incorect seams... if you check out my character tutorial that shows you how to use the uv/ image editor

  • Thanks for your quick reply hamster...much appreciated! I did resolve a lot of the problems by using a small brush size and zooming into the mesh using draw (RMB to get a good color choice) painting directly onto the tex also helps (watch ur brush size!). I've seen this problem before and It appears it's a feather issue much like anti-aliasing where edges either become dark -for light areas or bright-for dark areas.

  • whenever i use this method i can see the texture in blender but as soon as i render it it's gone? any ideas

  • turn on texface in the objects material buttons

  • yea you could use projection painting to paint over the bits on the seams that don't match up.

  • i made a car and when i do texture painting, it only paints the inside, please help!

  • your mesh is probly inside out... press ctrl+n

  • It worked! Thanks, i'll sub

  • Well... my internet and pc sucks so the vid froze on me :-/ but i'm sure this is good and looks to be only receiving positive responses so, awesome. I'll have to check this out again when i get a better pc and can get back into blender. Been waaaaay to long.... :(

Nice to see you still make tutorials though :)

  • Get well soon zach's pc :P

  • haha thx, the pc appreciates it ^.^

  • This is the best tut on this that I have seen

  • Thank god for projection painting, thought I would never get texturing down! 5/5 video

  • Solid vid tut again, thanks!

  • Thanks man, this is exactly what I was looking for.

  • Very good! This may be the best documentation about projection painting at the moment - at least i didnt find anything that complete anywhere else-.- Thanks a lot!

  • I was wanting to know how to do this. Thanks! 5/5

  • Seems pretty complicated.

  • omg thats sexy nice job mate really good job 5*
