One of my favorite bands. Everybody can write awesome stuff. Trendy, hits, audience appealing, radio friendly, blah blah... but only a handful of bands can journey across the musical spectrum like Thrice.
actually it's kinda weird, i had this song in my library for a year or two and never paid attention to it. One day i was playing on the computer and i was like 'wow, that's a good song.' so i listened to it for a few weeks, it made my playlist cut. then about 2 months later my cousin died and i realized why i liked this song. It's a long story.. basically i had premonitions of his death and i ignored the signs. there was even a sign that i literally saw and i ignored it. 2 days before his death.
@BDKMusick peace on earth by U2 right after 9/11 while rolling the names of everyone who died behind the performance was incredible, but this is amazing too
@gabegambino I wouldn't say it needs to be surpassed. I love all of thrice's music for very different reasons. They bring something new to the table with each record, and I can appreciate the elements of their music in different ways. Apples and oranges.
This is probably the most beautiful song Thrice has, and it is definitely in my Thrice top 5. Dustin's emotion during the "Oh Goooooooood" part gets me every time.
Chills. Absolute chills. Thrice is the greatest thing ever to hit the world of music. They so adeptly capture emotion in it's most raw form and put that into such beatiful music that us listeners identify with and actually even FEEL the same thing. SO BRUTAL GOOD!
Oh god... I love this song... But I think this particular video is officially ruined for me because of Humon... The beards kept reminding me of the Oresund Song (or however you spell it)... Curse you Humon! CURSE YOU!!!!
@toolfanify "this is the sequel to the melting point of wax which tells the story of how icarus flew too close to the sun and his wings melted because they are made from wax... but this is not from icarus' point of view but from daedalus, his father"
jesus fucking christ. this is my favorite song off the alchemy index albums and my god they do it justice here. the screaming at the end is just so powerful, seriously makes me teary eyed thinking about how much i love my son and how much i want to give him every opportunity to have the best life possible.
I agree with brickstacker37. For the fist 4 minutes it was, hey, they sound good live, and then the last minute kicked it up two notches and just blow you away. I get goosebumps every time I hear that last part.
Ok every time i see this video i cry when Dustin screams from "and now you took the only thing..." and on. So intense..... Best vid of them playing this song.
oh god i know. i heard somewhere that this is the second part to the melting point of wax, but instead from the fathers point of view..it makes sense perfectly actually. but yeah amazing lyrics.
Um...it's about Icarus dying if that's what you mean. It's kinda the twin to melting point of wax in that it's both sides to the Icarus and Daedalus story from Greek Mythology. If that's what you meant. Then yea, you are correct.
yeah, the way he sings this song it seems like it was his son who passed away.. especially the part close to the outro... it seemed to be that this song means a lot to dustin.
WOW!!!...This version of the song was GOOD...until it got to about the 4:30 mark. Then it reached a whole nother level. THRICE IS PHENOMENAL!!!! The best band ever....There is not a song they have recorded that I do not LOVE! and that I don't take a lesson out of. They are so meaningful and deep and sincere. Amazing.
Wow! if you don't get chills with that ending you don't have a soul. This is my favorite performance by thrice. I love them for their real emotional feelings while playing and this is about as emotional I have ever seen them play!
@brickstacker37 check out melting point of wax, you'll like it, if not 4 the song then the lyrics. its the same story but from icarus' point of view and, atleast i think, it reinvents the story from a cautionary tale 1 of freedom and testing limits 2 find out wats real and wat isn't.....plz excuse the short hand typing =P
if you think about it tho.... (and I Love the Beatles) but ALOT of their songs were corny and poorly written...then they had songs like Elenor Rigby and Hey Jude.....thrice has nothing but meaningful songs
Yeah but the melodies are still amazing in their early stuff, and you have to look at the times in which the Beatles started. Music hadn't really come into it's own yet and they really brought it. If Thrice had come out in 1962 I think that they would have been doing the same stuff, it wouldn't be nearly as meaningful as their albums are.
One of my favorite bands. Everybody can write awesome stuff. Trendy, hits, audience appealing, radio friendly, blah blah... but only a handful of bands can journey across the musical spectrum like Thrice.
