In this song his voice reaches over a 4 octave range, from the "tostrøken F" (norwegian) (one and a half octave above the middle C), to an "F i første kontra" (two and a half octave below the middle C). The total range of Hans-Heinrich Hüppert's (the native name of Ivan Rebroff as far as I know) represented in this song is, as already mentioned, 4 octaves. His total range was about 4 and a half octave, so he is a great joy listening to for me as a singer...
I find, that Mr. Koréh and Mr. Miller do not sing the lowest note that Ivan sings, but their voices sound more impressive and they are not so close to the mic.
And what do you say to Mr. J. D. Sumner?
I would say, in reality Mr. Kruglov has the most powerful voice of all basses ever heard.
Brilliant stuff. Ive only heard Rebroff recently, and I love it. What i like the most is that he plays around with the original and puts in some falsetto, and then does the extra octave on the scale, just to say "I can do it" :)
Ivan Rebroff is one amazing singer! In my opinion he has the greatest range of any singer yet! I love how he walks down the bass line at the end to that low F1. Hes a true Basso Profondo, with an extraordinary upper range! This mans such an inspiration. R.I.P.
IMO he is simply a bass with an extended range. Basso profundo refers to those who can go below C1 and are characterized by a darker sound. Think of JD Sumner and the basses from gospel quartets. Rebroff's sound is much brighter when he is in the mid to upper part of his natural voice. Still he decends to the sub bass range very effectively. Anyway that's my take on it. I do enjoy listening to him.
@smemr Dramatic basso profondo refers to a voice from C2-F4. At least that's the consensus amongst the people of the continent that holds centuries of Western music history.
Not even Russian basses can sing clean below G1. And you wish to call them "normal basses"? Heck, I think none of those G1 basses can even hit middle C with ease!
@OliverKahnNr1 I think the problem here is that some start counting octaves at 1, others at 0. A common problem in communicating music internationally, as well as in programming.
Hm, i guess you can't hear that hes slurring (is that the right word? had to look it up: when you drink you can't talk normally anymore, thats what i mean) as you don't speak German.
The song is about sitting in a cellar, most likely one used to store alcohol ;)
Rebroff sings in German, but its very hard to understand what he sings, but the important thing is:
He pretends to get more and more drunk during the song. So girlsryummy is right, its a drunk-hiccup (but used as a range-switch too ;))
This video ends up very late in searches for Ivan Rebroff. Too bad, since it's one of his most ipmressive performances. I cannot belive he just passed away.

Wow! Amazing!
Don't particularly like this song (of much of his repetoire), but his voice and range is amazing. The end just covers it all: from high to low.
