@beandumper Deux ! It is a community safety video. . Don't they have such things in your country, too? You've probably never noticed and you are still a smoker. . cheers. from, del-boy.
I've just created a little video inspired by this guy over the last month, if you got the time check it out. I'd love to making things as good as this in a couple of years time.
i couldnt really decide if you used a time laps on on the scenario, stopmotion with minature dolls or a mixture of both, in any case it lookd amazing and i really enjoyed it :)
@grungeblight it's a time lapse and tilt shift technique combined. The time lapse is taking pictures at intervals and then playing them back at normal speed so it's faster and juddery, and the tilt shift is the blur technique which is similar to the depth of field you'd normally get on a macro lens, which makes everything look maniture. Combine the two and bang, Keith Loutit has it spot on. I just tried created a video using this style, check it out if you have the time.
tnx for the friendly and clear reply. i checked out your vid. looks great btw. its the perfect combination blend of three elements that confused me. the third being the amazing saturation push of colours. Making it look like these bright and vivid coulours used in thunderbirds. cheers
Wow...truly amazing.....what lens did you use to create the miniature effect or did you edit it into the video after wards? I just got my digital timer remote and im keen on creating some spectacular time lapse vids of the Namibian landscape...
I saw this on vimeo first, it's explained that the artist received permission to film one of the practice water rescues.
"This is a personal project that would not have been possible without the support of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service. Thanks to the entire team for their generous access during training exercises and patrols this Summer. Since the Service began in 1973, it has carried out more than 21,000 missions..."
This is awesome. A fantastic little story and beautiful images. I am getting some tilt shift time lapse software for Christmas so will be having a go at this. Most people would swear this was a cartoon.
These are real life shots!!! He is zoomed way out and in a helicopter..... He highers the contrast and adds a lens flare to get the "fake" look.... This is really Good...... I hope you get a directing job one day you are good with a camera!!!
@EarDestroyer LOL I know that, I just can't convince some of my friends. I have a so-in-law that does these things, not as well but still reasonable good.
WHAT?!?!? That guy fell in the water and he can't get out! He's being hit by the waves against the rocks and they decide to turn it into the chorus of this song!
On the Vimeo page of this video, Loutit thanks the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service for lending him access during training exercises so this was more than likely a drill. He also thanks a certain Trevor Cracknell for getting wet. A quick google shows he is a member of that same rescue team.
It is all real people and real footage from a camera, using a "tilt-shift" lens. The guy ended up getting rescued, via the who helicopter portion of the video.
I'm like.. hmm this fishing guy is standing too dangerous. He actually fell! I bursted into laughing so hard then paused.. Wait... I paused the video thinking the real consequence.. To my curious, I resumed the video to see what happened.. Hahaha. The footage ended.. Wondering.. Was he able to get back on surface???
Otherwise, awesome tilt shift aka work. Reducing frame rate makes it very convincing that they're stop motion. =)
There have been a lot of tilt shift timelapse movies since this video came out, but this is still my favourite. The narrative, the choice of soundtrack, the way they link together, is a joy to watch. I've seen it loads of times and I'm still not bored. Love it love it love it!
@creidv I'm sure it could. A colleague shot this little tester with his shiny new Canon ( he added in the tiltshift effect in FCP). vimeo dot com/13719867
Soon, the level of CGI technology will be good enough to produce undetectably false "news footage", "taped confessions", "satellite photos of earth", etc. and to successfully pass them off as "truth".
@XXDeadiceXX These are all real. It's produced using a special lens called the tilt/shift lens. It alters the plane of focus and make things seem miniature :D
Very cool! This is the first one that I've seen with a plot-line. I've been aware of this genre of film for a while now and I'm increasingly impressed with what I'm seeing. cheers!
@McSjoom Perspective control. Architectural shooters use this for taking pictures of buildings. ie. When you shoot a big building, to squeeze it in the picture you either have to go very far away or use a wide-angle lens. Former, you cant always do. Latter makes the building very distorted with no straight lines [especially vertically].
T/S / perspective lenses helps correct the distortion. Very expensive, quite fiddly.
