  • ESPN just made a great tilt shift commercial, currently running in the UK

  • FANTASTIC :)

  • Awesome

  • beautiful

  • 0:45 LMFAO

  • Amazing. I too laughed when the guy fell in. Great film work.

  • This is captivating. Really amazing

  • this is awesome, your sir are an artist and a professional.

and kkc0161- no your not a horrible person for it, 99% of people laughed including me

  • 2:50 Wedding cameo

  • how did he shoot the helicopter??

  • Absolutely fabulous.

  • immer wieder großartig

  • Ma brain hurts...

  • Is he alive?

  • Three years later and this is still a great vid, made at very start of the techniques' evolution. Love it.

  • SO SAD

  • This is not fake, its real, just a special effect on a 7D camera. look it up you can do it yourself.

  • @heyman284 with a $2000 lens, yes... everyone can do it themselves!

  • 27 people are not minatures

  • that was staged, but extremely neat.

  • @beandumper Deux ! It is a community safety video. . Don't they have such things in your country, too? You've probably never noticed and you are still a smoker. . cheers. from, del-boy.
  • this looks really odd, like the land looks fake

  • @Gangster240212 it is fake

  • I've just created a little video inspired by this guy over the last month, if you got the time check it out. I'd love to making things as good as this in a couple of years time.

  • See my tilt shift blog at tiltshiftable for more! Add dot com, of course...LOL

  • so THAT's how they get helicopters out of the hangar...

  • i couldnt really decide if you used a time laps on on the scenario, stopmotion with minature dolls or a mixture of both, in any case it lookd amazing and i really enjoyed it :)

  • i dont get it how is this made? just blurred and sped up?? and something else.

  • @grungeblight Look up "tilt shift" on YouTube and go to the second video

  • @joevictor53

    yes, tnx bro.

  • @grungeblight it's a time lapse and tilt shift technique combined. The time lapse is taking pictures at intervals and then playing them back at normal speed so it's faster and juddery, and the tilt shift is the blur technique which is similar to the depth of field you'd normally get on a macro lens, which makes everything look maniture. Combine the two and bang, Keith Loutit has it spot on. I just tried created a video using this style, check it out if you have the time.

  • @LogicalJo

tnx for the friendly and clear reply. i checked out your vid. looks great btw. its the perfect combination blend of three elements that confused me. the third being the amazing saturation push of colours. Making it look like these bright and vivid coulours used in thunderbirds. cheers

  • Wow...truly amazing.....what lens did you use to create the miniature effect or did you edit it into the video after wards? I just got my digital timer remote and im keen on creating some spectacular time lapse vids of the Namibian landscape...

  • in 10 years games will look like this. it will be awesome.

  • WHOA. Wait. So, this is tilt-shifted, NOT miniatures?

  • wonderful video, wonderful song choice.

    four thumbs up... way up.

  • am i a horrible person for laughing when the guy fell in?

  • Comment removed

  • @kkc0161 S'okay, I did too.

  • @kkc0161 same, but i looks so comical

  • @kkc0161 naa i did too :D

  • Some of it looks soo fake, or real, no fake. AHHHH!!!

  • I love this video, the music, the tilt shift, the general feel of the video is so soothing and humorous :)

Great video, well deserving of thumbs.

  • What camera did you use sir? and what interval did you set it to?

  • So this is what being god feels like...

  • I could watch these videos all fucking day.

  • i would love to see a tilt shift vid that doesn't have some whiny ass music

  • Super!!

  • Great video I love it, never thought of tilt-shift and time lapse together! - I scuba dive the areas filmed regularly.

  • I think I saw this effect on the facebook movie when the twins are sailing on a race. I don't remember well, wasn't paying much attention :)

  • Shit !!!!

  • This is sims 4

  • how the fuck did u do that?x)

    its awsome!

  • The helicopter picks him out of the water-did you watch the entire video?

  • Frikin awesome :)

  • I saw this on vimeo first, it's explained that the artist received permission to film one of the practice water rescues.

"This is a personal project that would not have been possible without the support of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service. Thanks to the entire team for their generous access during training exercises and patrols this Summer. Since the Service began in 1973, it has carried out more than 21,000 missions..."

  • @uxa1 haahah yh its funny shit

  • Totally surreal - love it!

  • (o_ _)ノ彡☆ポムポム 最高!

  • This is awesome. A fantastic little story and beautiful images. I am getting some tilt shift time lapse software for Christmas so will be having a go at this. Most people would swear this was a cartoon.

  • This is just amazing.

  • The wake left by the ships is amazing, truely mastering the art of realism of something that isnt

  • @Thechunkle dude... this is real.... not a model

  • Wow this song fit perfectly! So creative, Love it, love it love it :)

  • Where is the last bit filmed, doe anyone know? The part with the bridge, just before the Watson bay part?

  • @bebenut123

The wooden bridge leads to Bare Island at la Perouse.

The next scene is at the northern end of camp cove.

  • @Gemrally

    Hey Thanks :)

  • This is super good.

  • These are real life shots!!! He is zoomed way out and in a helicopter..... He highers the contrast and adds a lens flare to get the "fake" look.... This is really Good...... I hope you get a directing job one day you are good with a camera!!!

  • Absolutely LOVED IT Dude you DA MAN!

  • Comment removed

  • @TheWhiteDreamsOfLife did you even watch the whole video? He was rescued...

  • Fantastic!

  • Love these. I keep showing theseto friends and they refuse to think they ain't models.

  • @candr they aren't models. It's a tilt shift lens and stop motion.

  • @EarDestroyer LOL I know that, I just can't convince some of my friends. I have a so-in-law that does these things, not as well but still reasonable good.

  • @candr ah woops miss read. It was late =P lol sorry about that ^.^

  • lol

  • this sing suits it perfectly

  • how did the rescue people know so quickly to save him? they left like a second after he fell in

  • @adult09 Not really... if you notice he is farther out in the ocean, so time has passed.

Also, it is time lapse, and a video... so of course it will be quicker. I am sure they cut out a lot of it.

  • If you dislike this video you are just jealous

  • now that is fucking awesome

  • thumbs up for guggenheim. and then thumbs down the other guy below

  • WHAT?!?!? That guy fell in the water and he can't get out! He's being hit by the waves against the rocks and they decide to turn it into the chorus of this song!

  • Fantastic!

  • how does it work?

  • has anybody wondered yet if the Videographer was the one who called for the Rescue team? I mean if not well... that's kind of messed up XD... >> ^-^;

  • @whiteguy2006dude

On the Vimeo page of this video, Loutit thanks the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service for lending him access during training exercises so this was more than likely a drill. He also thanks a certain Trevor Cracknell for getting wet. A quick google shows he is a member of that same rescue team.

  • this is brilliant. they just used shots like this in the movie, The Social Network.

  • This Video deserves so much more views!

  • when did Sydney get an off shore platform? I missed that

  • woooooow the heli looks like a yello bee^^ great

  • Amazing!

  • You might giggle but as I watch this live at via stream at Guggenheim...I think...oh my lord what a way to get out of copyright claims =D

  • It is all real people and real footage from a camera, using a "tilt-shift" lens. The guy ended up getting rescued, via the who helicopter portion of the video.

This is just flat awesome. Very nice video !

  • f...ng amazing

  • wow! never seen tilt shift video this good. well done!

  • Nice video!!! :)

  • I likey

  • sim city :D

  • Fantastic, love it.

  • one of my fav vids

  • @XXDeadiceXX Do a search on tilt-shift. it's a photography technique =)

  • are there any music videos like this?

    this is fucking amazing

  • I'm like.. hmm this fishing guy is standing too dangerous. He actually fell! I bursted into laughing so hard then paused.. Wait... I paused the video thinking the real consequence.. To my curious, I resumed the video to see what happened.. Hahaha. The footage ended.. Wondering.. Was he able to get back on surface???

Otherwise, awesome tilt shift aka work. Reducing frame rate makes it very convincing that they're stop motion. =)

  • @kibbycabbit

the helicopter picked him up out of the water at 2:11

  • best example on youtube :) well done :)

  • My 1st attempt here ...

  • WHAT WAS THIS GUY THINKING?!

  • @XXDeadiceXX theyre all real, thats why i love tilt shift lenses, because they make everything look like a minature model.

  • Bellissimo!!!!! l'omino che fa spinning è proprio uno scimprotto, però!!!

  • this is beautiful!

  • <--check out my film 'hometown' with faux tilt-shift (shot on a Sony Z1)

    @stevenbrunton

  • There have been a lot of tilt shift timelapse movies since this video came out, but this is still my favourite. The narrative, the choice of soundtrack, the way they link together, is a joy to watch. I've seen it loads of times and I'm still not bored. Love it love it love it!

  • you need to make a full length movie in imax 3d using this. it would be amazing. you dont even need words, just 2 hours of this stuff.

  • Wonder if a 5d m2 could do this?

    Fantastic job.

  • @creidv I'm sure it could. A colleague shot this little tester with his shiny new Canon ( he added in the tiltshift effect in FCP). vimeo dot com/13719867

  • beautiful

  • Totally amazing.... very impressed... WOW!!

  • The singers name is Megan Washington from Australia. She's excellent and is singing "Clementine". Check out her songs! I think her voice is gr8!

  • @XXDeadiceXX Definitely real.

  • Whats the song behind this?

  • Soon, the level of CGI technology will be good enough to produce undetectably false "news footage", "taped confessions", "satellite photos of earth", etc. and to successfully pass them off as "truth".

  • Great song

  • brilliant!

    thanks for posting...

  • simply beautiful !!! this is one of the best short movie I ever seen

  • Do you think you could share a little bit about the equipment you used making this movie? It's very good.

  • this is fucking bad ass. what happened to the guy in the water? It's weird, cuz I knew he was gonna fall in before he even did.

  • @dggfhdfghdf the helicopter got the guy that fell in

  • @dggfhdfghdf They sent the rescue chopper out and rescued him, and in the end he is reunited with his family

  • @dggfhdfghdf It was a sea rescue practice.

  • @dggfhdfghdf It was a sea rescue practice so he fell in on purpose although looks a little dangerous to me!

  • @dggfhdfghdf If you knew he was going to fall in, then why didn't you stop him?

  • @dggfhdfghdf They rescued him from the helicopter.

  • @XXDeadiceXX These are all real. It's produced using a special lens called the tilt/shift lens. It alters the plane of focus and make things seem miniature :D

  • just try to imagine the amount of photos which were used to create this..I'm sure photographers may understand me ...it's amaaaazingly hard...)

  • @safiftythree It's actually fairly easy. =)

  • its good made but it has no meaning in it .. pretty boring to watch ..

  • I started doubting whether or not it was really tilt-shift at times. Really cleverly done!

  • Very cool! This is the first one that I've seen with a plot-line. I've been aware of this genre of film for a while now and I'm increasingly impressed with what I'm seeing. cheers!

  • ..Did he die!??

(god i've always wanted to say that =) haha

  • do you think this is done with a DSLR or a proper movie camera?

  • is it taken with a DSLR or a proper movie spec camera ?

  • @piescrank from What i've seen, he uses a DSLR. What i haven't seen is what lens he is using. T/S / perspective control lenses are not cheap.

  • OMG That guy is drowning lol!

  • great song, great movie, where can I get the song?

  • That guy fell in!! Is he okay?

  • Wow, cool! But what is a tilt-shift lens?

  • @McSjoom Perspective control. Architectural shooters use this for taking pictures of buildings. ie. When you shoot a big building, to squeeze it in the picture you either have to go very far away or use a wide-angle lens. Former, you cant always do. Latter makes the building very distorted with no straight lines [especially vertically].

T/S / perspective lenses helps correct the distortion. Very expensive, quite fiddly.

'Lens babies' are a 'cute' cheap way of doing it [usually fun/arty shots]

  • @oogleywoogley to clarify, i'm not suggesting architectural shooters are using lens babies lol.

  • @oogleywoogley Thanks for the comment.

  • 2:49 is perfect.

  • офигенно

  • fps?

  • @XXDeadiceXX - it's real. it's taken with a tilt-shift lens

  • Technically amazing! But this is far more then just a technical novelty; it is a real work of art!

  • the song is "clementine" by megan washington :)

  • Excellent

  • totally great! could you please tell me the name of the song???

  • Beautiful

  • did guy in orange shirt fishing die?

  • did you not watch the video? The rescue helicopter went out and got him. He came back and his family met him. All in the video.

  • hahaha
