Good song, I think they were glad to finish it. But you the lead guitarist sure looks like Pete Townsend of 'The Who"; both his face and facial expressions. I keep seeing "Pete"....
The drummer - Stuart Tosh - appeared on Never Mind The Buzzcocks in 1997 in the Identity Parade round. Rather (in)appropriately it was a Christmas special.
I remember falling in love with them when I saw this all those years ago AND I love this version cos it is how it sounded on the old black and white TV way back then :) xxx AUTHENTIC xxx
Thankyou so much for the memories. But right here, right now, etc. I'm teaching English in Japan. Doing the months of the year is easy enough, but I was asked to provide examples of songs in English that portrayed each month. This song came immediately to mind regarding the first month. Then I got stuck. Can anyone help me out for the other months? I've got: April sun in Cuba - Dragon One day in September - Mike Brady November Rain, etc. Compiling a good list is proving tough. Help.
If you like this and Magic, I recommend their original studio albums in their entirety. They are available on cd too. Definitely check out the Morin Heights album. Kinda like ELO, 10cc, Queen, Sparks, Alan Parsons Project, The Sweet, etc.
Too many people see this band as a Rollers-type of band... pawns of manipulative management. Not so! These guys were all great players. Singer/bassist Davey Paton (he also played guitar on Magic) went on to Camel, Kate Bush, Fish, Elton John, Alan Parsons Project and still gigs around Edinburgh. Guitarist Bairnson also did Bush, McCartney, and all those wonderful solos on the Alan Parsons albums, with whom he still tours. Paton and drummer Stu Tosh are on the killer 'Camel - On the Road '82'.
@mckenzie818 your getting a bit ahead of yourself, they were ok players but nothing amazing, Magic was a cool pop song but the rest of their stuff is awful
This is a wonderful song. It's so happy dappy. Its a total time capsule back to the days when there really was democracy without the dogma and stigmatism of equal opportunity laws, harassment procedures etc. The days when you could perve on hot chicks in bikinis while getting pissed on some fine ol' wine casks by the beach. The days of "no responsibilities" when everyone was doing everyone. The days of letting your hair down and not worrying about mobile phones or any other incoveniences.
This is a great song!It was a massive hit in OZ back in 1975.There were so many good songs that year!And as they say in the song :"Time it's a flyer."It sure is!
Oh my God, I've just ben zapped back into my childhood. When my Mom(rip) used to put the top 20 on the radio every Sunday night. I embrace the magic those days had, along with great music compared to the crap out there now, which teaches kids.....nothing

He looks like Alan Williams from The Rubettes. Both brilliant bands from the 70's.

Pilot are magic. Funny how all bands in the 70s had a leader singer or someone in the band called 'Dave'.

Yes they truly have the Magic. This song reminds me of going over to Eastern Missouri around Tom Sauk Mountain;
and to all those little towns over there around Pilot Knob /Acadia/ Farmington
etc. that used to be full of kids in the 70's. with long hair and a party to go to.
Where did it all go?

I went to see them in early 1975, Smokie were the support act in Manchester. Great tune. Sadly the keyboard player died a few years ago.
